The manager/owner came over and greeted us and explained the differences between a German restraunt and an Austrian one. He suggested the Wiener schnitzel and we both ordered that. We walked us through their wine list and we took his recommendation on an Austrian white that was very good, paired well with the schnitzel and was reasonably priced. I visit Germany A couple of times a year and would say this was probably the best schnitzel I can remember. Fork tender and great flavor. Great alternative to the touristy hustle-and-bustle of the Altstadt area. Will visit them again on my next vIsit to Dusseldorf.

This restaurant made me feel like Bavaria was in the center of Cologne…read more A modern take on rustic German tavern decor. The interior is just lovely. Large outdoor patio area. We chose to eat outside. We opted for fondue and what a perfect choice it was. Bread and veg for dipping. We also got a soft pretzel for fondue dipping. Drank Spaten beer, a refreshing, classic Bavarian beer. The fondue was some of the best cheese ever. It was Gruyère, Appenzeller (a firm Swiss), and Emmentaler (semi-hard yellow cheese) with cherry brandy and white wine. Served with potatoes, bread, and as mentioned above other veg. This centre city establishment is a must-eat.

My in-laws made reservations for us a few weeks ago for our visit and both my wife and I loved…read moreeverything about this experience. This traditional Bavarian restaurant is located along a footpath by the Rhine so I highly recommend going for a walk either before dining in order to work up an appetite (and while there is still light) or afterwards to aid in digestion. With the beautiful homes lining the path and the many ships gliding by, you won't regret it! The entire menu looks great but we were there for one thing and one thing only: the roast goose with dumplings and blaukraut (red cabbage). (Check out my tip - this is a special offered only for the holiday season). This is a traditional family dish that we have had every year and I dare say this was better than the one prepared by my father-in-law. The goose was juicy and delectable and the skin was crispy and full of flavor. The brown gravy that was served for the table went perfectly with the dumplings and the blaukraut. There is a bread basket full of Bavarian pretzels and German breads served with delicious garlic quark (yogurt like) waiting for you at the table but don't fill up with this, the plates are substantial. This will definitely be on our list of restaurants to frequent whenever we are in Bonn.

We wanted to try the local beer Kolsch. We came to this restaurant for a quick lunch and to try…read moreKolsch. Kolsch tasted light and refreshing. It did not disappoint. Kolsch was served on a small tall glass (probably 7-8 ounces). The server would keep pouring more to refill your glass when you finish. If you don't want a refill, be sure to cover it up with a coaster. That would signal the server that you don't want anymore beer. We ordered their lunch special for the day which was pork ribs served with a choice of potatoes or fava beans. We had the fava beans. The ribs had a good flavor. The ribs on my plate were a bit dry but the ribs on my husband's plate were not as dry. I liked the fava beans. I enjoyed Kolsch. I would come back for the beer.

The prices are a little high (25 Euro per schnitzel) but the service is very good and there was no wait at all. It was the only seemingly great schnitzel restaurant we could find which was open for lunch on a Monday and not fully booked (as Gruber's was). The celery soup, bread and oil, and beer were also great. This was probably the best meal of our six day trip to Germany. If I wasn't in "vacation mode" though and this were in a city where I lived, I might dock a point for the prices.
