We had many beers today in Altstadt but did not want another meal here. Yelp is not too popular here yet so I hit up the web. I was looking for my first authentic Weiner Schnitzel ( a horrible American hot dog chain back home) and this place popped up with some really good reviews.
My buddy and I hit up a cab and gave it a shot. The place was completely empty at about 6:30pm but, with the good reviews, we decided to stay. It's really nice inside with a cool patio for the smokers. We started with a bottle of still water. What is with this town? All you can usually find is bubbly water that is over salty. A simple still water was very much appreciated after all of the earlier beers. Bread was next with a dill hummus and was really tasty as well.
We took the waiters recommendation for a bottle of red wine and an appetizer that was fabulous. It was a sliced veal carpaccio with a balsamic vinegar sauce and salad. Fantastic. It was a nice precursor to the Weiner Schnitzel. That was great as well. Three huge pieces with fresh lemon, white asparagus with Bernaise sauce and baby potatoes. All were well prepared and quite tasty. I would have prepared the asparagus a bit firmer but, compared to the food I have eaten this week, I was not complaining. This place was just awesome.
The staff waited on us hand and foot as well as a private party of some 60 people that walked in later. Our waiter suggested a platter of dessert favorites. Fresh ice cream, strudel, an apple fritter thingy ( hot and crispy with cinnamon), and a dish made with torn pancake, raisins, nuts, and caramel reduction topped with a warm fruit chutney. Belly overload. I was stuffed, drunk and happy.
