Venison meatball with noodles and mushroom sauce
    Stacy R.

Had to try this authentic Bavarian restaurant! We had a nice waiter, but they aren't very attentive from what we're used to. Meatballs and duck were delicious! Not a fan of the potato dumpling - texture. Noodles needed flavor, the mushroom sauce was amazing with them. Drinks were fine. Happy we checked it out!

This Augustiner is a beautiful, historical Bavarian restaurant and beerhall conveniently located near Marienplatz. It's absolutely worth a stop for the Munich tourist, even if it's just to walk through and observe the beautiful interior, back courtyard and massive traditional beerhall areas. The outside of the building is beautiful and the interior is stunning. And the beer is great! (Stop in for an Augustiner beer if nothing else.) We were there for dinner and were seated inside in one of the smaller, beautiful rooms adorned by shell mosaics on the walls and and a beautiful high ceiling. The menu is available in multiple languages, including the specials menu. Augustiner brews some of the most popular beers in Germany and Austria (some would say the best), so of course we ordered that first!!! You really can't go wrong with any of their choices. I loved my Augustiner Weissbier. Our table of five ordered a variety of German dishes for dinner, including sausages, veal meatballs, roasted pork and mushroom "ravioli". Several were from the specials menu and might only be seasonal. The ravioli was delicate and delicious, and the mushroom sauce outstanding. The sausage platter was a great way to sample the variety of sausages made in the area (really good if you like sausage) and it comes with the largest crock of mustard I've ever seen. My dad and nephew liked the meatball and said it was similar to the German meatloaf they'd had at a nearby beer garden. The roasted pork was tender and good. If you're looking for spice or heat though, Bavarian food is not for you. You will find it bland. Portion sizes were large and prices were comparable for this area of Munich. Definitely more $ than in the US, but we found all food and beer to be much pricier. Dinner for five, plus five beers, one wine and three cokes came to $155 USD. Service was friendly, but not very attentive. Our waiter was tied up a lot by a table of about 15 also eating. Overall, the Augustiner is a winner. If not for dinner, an American tourist will still massively enjoy the beauty of the building inside and out, be impressed by the massiveness of the beerhall areas, and the charm of the back garden patio. Many would argue the beer can't be beat either.

This is where we ended up on our anniversary! This place is huge! We weren't sure if we would find something open during holidays, but this place came to our rescue :) Loved the food and the special recommended by our service.

A little bit pricey but with good and friendly service (a waiter who doesn't get rude when asking to pay by card in Germany is not too common unfortunately) and food is spot on. I had one of the dishes of the day, meatballs of veal with mashed potatoes and vegetables, with a weissbier for less than EUR 17. Although there wasn't that much of meat, the portion was overall fair and the meatballs were really tasty.

Zum? More like Yum! I really liked this place a lot. I met a friend of mine from Munich and he suggested we go here and I'm glad we did. We had some of their Oktoberfest beer, which was great. He had some type of meatloaf (did not look like American meat loaf but tasted good) and I had some sausages, sauerkraut and french fries. Everything was good and I have to say, although I dislike sauerkraut, I ate it all because it was so delicious. Maybe I've just never had any good stuff. Fries were great and sausages were delightful. People at our table were friendly and it was a great atmosphere. Service seemed very nice and the place was lively but not overly noisy. Took a few minutes to find a table with space but other than that, it was smooth sailing. I would heartily recommend this place. Go for the beer, stay for the sauerkraut!

I tried Weißwurst for a breakfast at this restaurant. The white sausage is delicious. A waiter was really kind and gentle that I could have a pleasant morning time:)

Right off the main shopping strip. You just walk in and seat yourself at an open table. They have a multilingual menu including English, Russian, Italian, etc. Food: 3/5 Meat and potatoes folks. Nothing special but hit the spot after a long flight. It's standard German food. I got the sausage platter as pictured below. You are also welcomed with a large vat of mustard and bowl of soft pretezeNothing blew me away but everything was fresh and tasty. My food showed up incredible fast. Within 5 minutes of ordering. It wasn't that busy since it was 3pm in the afternoon but I was impressed. Ambience: 5/5 Cellar style with a hunting lodge type of decor. Service: 5/5 Fast and friendly. Left me to do my thing and seemed to show up exactly when I needed something Summary: If you are looking for classic traditional German food the this spot will not disappoint.

Augustiner special, 2 porks, 1 chicken and potato dumpling.

Food was okay, beer was good. Very spacious interior dining area. Also street patio seating.

So let me start off with this is the first place we ate when we arrived in Munich. The beer is great. I'm not a beer drinker and this being the first beer I drank in Germany, made me appreciate it and enjoy it. The sausage sampler is a great choice and I loved the sauerkraut that came with it. They have a relaxed outside atmosphere. The waiter though, did not like that we were tourists. He was annoyed when we asked questions about the menu. He told us that the tip was not included in the check multiple times, the proceeded to stand there as we signed the check and stated again that the tip is not included and waited for us to give him one. There are other Augustiners around that treat you a little better.

Good solid German/Bavarian restaurant. Seating outside was challenging due to the beautiful weather. Service was prompt and helpful with a few menu selected translations. The dishes were solid with generous portions. Of course the beer was excellent!

Overshadowed by hofbrauhaus, this is a must-go in münchen whether or not you're a beer lover! I think their food is better than in hofbrauhaus, and I would say their beer is definitely comparable to the HB beer. I personally got hooked to the radler (beer + light lemonade). The interior feels grand with all the chandeliers, trophies on the wall, and paintings with the style of the 1500s. The pork knuckle and pork shank are very popular here and is worth a try- hearty and satisfying fare. The portion was plenty two people to share. Pretzels were delicious as well. The experience here is completely unique to münchen!

Ripp off! Ordered meat and vegetables, looked like a tin of cold dog food. Came to pay at the end, was charged €2 for the bread on the table plus waiter took €7 change as a tip...

One of the oldest breweries in Munich and one of several Augustiners in the area. I was worried that it would be bad since it is right in the middle of a great tourist walkway. However, the experience was great. Food was OK. Restaurant inside is spacious and leads to a nice beer garden in the back. Every table was flowing with beer. Not a wine drinker in sight or soft drink or mixed drink or water. Tip: They hand-out/sell baskets of soft pretzels at the tables like they give out bread in America.

    Highly recommend....the Schweinshaxe.

I'm glad I had the opportunity to dine in this beautiful 150 year old restaurant. My review comes after its closure but it serves to honor the restaurant in hosting my visit. The Building is amazing where the walls and ceilings act as palettes for beautiful painted art. Stepping into the restaurant feel as if one is stepping through a time portal where one feels they are dining 151 years ago which is how old the building is. The ambiance is quite lively and energetic. Although the highlight is the space, the food is also very good. Their pretzels are served warm and fresh with a firm exterior and an interior that melts as it enters one's mouth. The soup is flavorful and healthy with not even a drop of oil pooling to the top. The schnitzel is as tender as it gets. The servers were knowledgeable and fast but it is always so busy that the restaurant should consider increasing staff as to improve customer service. Perfect location right in the heart of Marienplatz where the Glockenspiel is a stone's throw away. Overall, a wonderful restaurant to dine with great food and a beautifully historic setting!

We waited a bit outside - maybe about 15 minutes before we were given a table. Our waitress was great, but it was very obvious that they had a lot of tables to take care of in the extremely giant beer hall. If you need anything after you order and in between getting your food and paying, you'll need to wait a while. That being said, I think we're just used to extremely fast service in NYC. I had the Pork knuckle which was a whole roasted pork knuckle with home-made dark beer sauce and potato dumpling. We also had the Crispy roast pork with home-made dark beer sauce and potato dumpling. Both were excellent and the beer was also quite good. I had their signature wheat beer and then an Oktoberfest beer (because why not) and really enjoyed it. The Worst Experience of My LIFE !!!! (Das Schlimmste…read moreErlebnis meines LEBENS !!!!) This restaurant visit ruined what was supposed to be a wonderful day near Christmas. The service was shockingly unprofessional, unfriendly, and, most disturbingly, blatantly racist and discriminatory. Here's what happened during our visit on 20.11.2024, from 19:00 to 20:30: (Dieser Restaurantbesuch hat einen sonst wunderschönen Tag kurz vor Weihnachten vollkommen ruiniert. Unfriendly and Hostile Behavior When we ordered drinks, the female server practically threw the beer mat onto our table, displaying an outright lack of courtesy. (1. Inappropriate Comments During Payment During the payment process, which we handled one by one, the card machine malfunctioned briefly. The server sarcastically remarked, "Thanks to the energy of the table..." or in German, "Die Energie des Tisches..."--a completely unnecessary and rude comment when we were simply sitting quietly and waiting. Insulting Treatment After a Complaint After one of the guests at our table expressed dissatisfaction with the service, the server retaliated in an incredibly degrading manner. She used two beer mats to carry our used napkins into the tray, as though we were disgusting or unworthy of respect (see below illustration). This happened even after I had tipped for my part of the meal. (4. Dismissive Attitude While Ordering At the start, when I tried to order food and drinks together, the server rudely interrupted me, refusing to let me finish my sentence because I mentioned food (Schnitzel) before the drinks. (5. The service was not only terrible but deeply offensive. As a scientist, I am committed to reporting facts accurately, and every detail I've shared here reflects the absolute truth of what we experienced. This dinner, so close to CHRISTMAS, should have been an enjoyable and peaceful experience. Instead, it was destroyed by the disgraceful behavior of the staff. I do not know what we did to deserve such treatment, but I strongly urge anyone considering this place to think twice. If you value your peace of mind, avoid this restaurant--it could ruin your day too!
