5 stars for service as the wait staff was working hard on Christmas Eve. They were very friendly and engaging. The restaurant itself was very cozy, but it was extremely loud. The food portions were small, but flavorful, with the exception of the beef filet. It was under seasoned and hubby's was overcooked. The people seated next to us experienced the same issue. We felt the meal was overpriced for the experience. They did have a good wine selection. We ordered a bottle and didn't opt for the wine pairing which also seemed to be overpriced for the selections. There weren't many places open on Christmas Eve, so I give them 4 stars for the entire effort. read more

Cozy dining with lunch menu. Pluses Bread and butter homemade was delicious. Chestnut soup was amazing. The boiled beef was the best so juicy and tender. Service was less helpful could have confusion with English. We did not understand how the lunch menu worked. The fried fish was overly salty on the inside. His beef dish entree was huge amount and it would have been better value if he had ordered from the lunch special instead of a la carte. Recommended if you only order from the lunch menu because you get a tray with a small soup, small salad, entree and dessert all at once and it's better value. read more

I made a reservation for an early dinner here, and we were the first ones in the restaurant. We were seated at a corner table and enjoyed the rustic and classy ambiance. Our waiter was a lovely man who was like a waiter god - seriously, he did his job perfectly and was never overwhelming. I had the trout, and the first thing I noticed was how meticulously plated it was. I usually just stick to salmon, but the trout was fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. My friend had a pasta dish that unfortunately wasn't to her taste. In the reservation, I noted it was my friend's birthday, and they were nice enough to bring out a dessert with a candle! read more

The steak was a good medium rare, maybe slightly too medium for my taste but not bad at all. The flavor of jus was nice. The parpadelle was perfectly al dente and sauced very nicely, not too heavy which is my preference and the chanterelles were very nice paring. The broccoli was perfectly tender, al dente also. And the truffle mash potatoes were delicious. Can't go wrong with truffles. I also liked the salt crystals that came with the break. Nice touch. Overall, great meal. Although never my main focus, the venue was beautiful. We had an outside table. It was so quaint and relaxing, surrounded by the old building and cobblestone road. Nice. read more

My husband and I came for a wonderful dinner on the evening of the 25th. It was a six course meal with some pretty delicious and surprising dishes. The first course was a foie gras platter with some sweet bits that complimented the foie gras. The second course was an amazing chestnut soup. I would never have thought chestnut soup could be something delicious, but Pfistermühle completely proved me wrong. Third course was a baked fish dish wrapped in pastry of some kind. It was good, but not my favorite. The 4th course was a raspberry sorbet palate cleanser. 5th course was a delicious prime rib. The 6th and final course was a dessert course, a mouse pastry. It wasn't the most amazing thing, but it was tasty. The table next to us had brought their dog with them and he was so cute and well behaved. He just sat under their table the whole time with a little bowl of water. I thought it was really cool how the restaurant would let them bring their dog. read more

The outdoor seating is perfect on a beautiful day. You not only enjoy the weather but can people watch. Great place just to stop and have a small break and a drink. We wanted upscale, authentic food, great service and a cozy quiet atmosphere...we were not disappointed! It was high priced with small portions, but the quality and taste was very, very good. We only ate starters because we wanted to leave room in our bellies for more eating later on that evening, oh and also to keep our wallets full as well :) We ordered the Marinated beef tatar (truffle, mustard ice cream, cream of egg yolk, grated horseradish), Smoked saddle of sucking pig (praline of sauerkraut, black pudding, stock from ham and bread, marinated pomegranate), and Cream of potato soup. We're no connoisseur so I can't describe exactly how it tasted but I can tell you it was amazing! Just those three items and our bill was already about 50 Euro before tip and tax! Food is just ok here. But when you add in incredibly slow service and high prices I would avoid this place. Soup was very tasty. We had asparagus soup, really sweet, not like asparagus soup in North America. Not sure if they deserve the credit here or if it is just the sweet asparagus that is grown here. The garlic was ok but very strong flavour. Then we had the char fish, it was ok but I found the dish under seasoned, very bland. Others had the venison which was salty and dry. Worst of all was how slow this place is, the waiter was very knowledgeable but it took hours for the meal. The table behind us got up and left after waiting an hour for soup. Dessert even took 30-40 minutes. Too much of an ordeal to go through for a meal, I would avoid this place. I have wanted to try the historic Pfistermuehle restaurant in Munich for years. Located near the Marienplatz, I have loved the old restored building, that had once been a flour mill, and watching its exterior change with the seasons. This is quite a good place for a special-occasion dinner. Excellent Bavarian food made with fresh local & seasonal ingredients, nicely executed. Not your standard big pile o' pork. nice wines too. The building is quite interesting, very old, and although the restaurant is quite large (should be easy to get a reservation), it feels 'intimate' because it's divided up into several smaller rooms. the ONLY downside is, it seems to be quite popular with the convention crowd, so a few times I've noticed people have LOUD business conversations (e.g. on Saturday evening). that slightly killed the mood for me, although that is not the restaurant's fault at all. read more

I was not impressed with this so called michellin rated place. They had many michellin rating stickers on the front door. I went in and asked for a table and had no reservations, luckily they had a couple of tables, at least that was what i was told. The place had a nice small but pricey atmosphere. I tried their special copper pot experience where they cook the food in this special copper pot for a long time and extract the flavors in the broth. The clear broth was the highlight, the meat was dry and flavorless. After spending a bunch of hard earned cash, i left still hungry and not satisfied. By far the best Bavarian food (as opposed to food in Bavaria) I've tried so far. Located in downtown Munich less than a block away from the extremely touristy Hofbräuhaus, this restaurant caters to a very different clientele. Most visitors were locals celebrating some occasions. A note: while there is no dress code, a lot of patrons do dress up quite a bit in the evening. In a classic German tradition, the place is much larger inside than it appears to be from outside, Mehr sein als scheinen! The interior is an interplay between classy (white linen, upscale furniture) and traditional (this is an old building, and decor tries to accentuate this feeling of long history). Food follows the similar path: the basic outline and the names of the dishes are traditional, while the chef's imagination transfers these recipes into modern culinary delights. So, if you want to try the suckling pig, but dislike the portions, presentation, and taste that are provided in the beer houses, this is the place for you to try it as a part of the refined Duett vom Schwein. A must-try: Pfifferlings Terrine. Main dishes in the evening will cost 30-35 euro. Pfistermühle offers the Ayinger beer. I was not terribly impressed by it; next time we will go for a wine (as did most of the locals). read more

Beautifully elegant and romantic restaurant where I had one of the best meals of my life. Beef tartar, fresh local fish, German wine, candle lit dinner for the last night of our honeymoon. Absolutely wonderful service, discrete and intimate, in a historical building that's attached to a hotel. The next time we come back to Munich I will most definitely be returning! An update: an incredible ice-cream based Stollen (German Christmas Bread) for desert. Had the goose special before that. Tasty! The restaurant itself is in the basement of the Platzl Hotel. The decor features arched ceilings, dark wood paneling, and a hunting motif: roe deer antlers and boars' tusk trophies mounted on the walls. Dress is formal and atmosphere quiet. Cuisine is proudly Bavarian. Reservation are required but it you shop up in person and ask nicely they might be able to squeeze you in for a 90 minute early seating. read more

We sat outside for Mose of the dinner. The street was crowed for a Saturday evening yet the atmosphere was wonderful. Dinner was excellent. Had the duck roasted with couscous as well as a side salad. It was good the additions sauces was excellent. I would however recommend sitting inside. We missed the true Bavarian dinning rooms. read more

We found this restaurant through an internet search. Before going to Germany i was told that the food was dreadful, so to experience the local dishes properly, we thought a fine dining restaurant would be good. Marco, our maitre d' was excellent, very charming & recommended our wine. I chose the special which was boiled beef. it could serve 3 dishes ie: soup, main & other....I chose to have just the mains as I usually do & my James had the lobster broth for starters, followed by cordon blue. My boiled beef was absolutely superb, so tender & tasty that I have since looked up recipes on the Internet to replicate. The lobster broth was also superb as was the cordon blue, in fact, it was the best we had all week. Our experience was superb as was Marco. We would however caution- this is a Bavarian restaurant serving the best of Bavarian food, the management & staff are extremely proud of their food & extremely friendly.
