I'm going to title this review (a nice surprise)..... I put a work order in for a new kitchen light. I was so pleasantly surprised. (Angel and Manny) Two maintenance people came very quickly. They introduced them selves and replaced the kitchen light. They were very kind and careful with my things coming iinto the apartment. Then I showed them some cracks that I saw on the microwave. again another great surprise. Two days later Angel came and installed a new microwave. Also very kind very quick. I lived in a different apartment before Zukin, and when anyone would finally come, the work was never done well!! So I was grateful that these people were so efficient! If you are looking to live in West Chester make sure this is your last option. If you are like me and you had no other option but to rent with Zukin make sure you take photos the second they give you the keys and after you moved out. Report anything, I mean ANYTHING that is wrong with their apartments. If they did not fix previous issues from prior residents within a month of your request make sure to bagger them. If they ignore your needs, contact the Better Business Boro and file a complaint. I have several friends along with myself who have been dissatisfied with this company. They are extremely disorganized, have shown up in my apartment unannounced, and are disrespectful to their tenants. All together and extremely unreliable company. If there is any positives they have beautiful places in prime locations. Hopefully these tips will help you while renting with Zukin. read more

Problems were even fixed better then we asked. Ive never had a problem with them. As long as you are straight forward with them they will help you out with your problems. I feel that they understand we are students and try to be understanding of this. Out of all the student housing I have had this is by far the best! In fear of a lawsuit from this company I am choosing my words wisely. This company has beautiful apartments and mainly cater to college students, usually first time renters. The beauty of their apartments is their bait. Financially speaking, I have been given extra charges for things such as changing the battery in my smoke detector. I am not a student, but was refused to be shown certain apartments that were listed as available. I was told they were for "business people." I guess I simply wasn't the right look for that place. I have been lied to and even yelled at in the middle of their office in front of others. Some employees including owner, Stan Zukin, genuinely want to help and have high morals, but the others have low integrity and are often very deceitful. PLEASE be careful when dealing with this company! Read over the lease very carefully. Lastly, any questions you have, ask via e-mail so you have evidence of thier responses. read more

In addition to having a gorgeous apartment, I have had nothing but positive experiences with Zukin Realty. The office personnel and the members of the various work crews associated with this business are always pleasant, eager to promptly respond to issues I have had as a tenant, and have been more than willing to go beyond their job descriptions to do as much as possible for me. I regret that I must close my association with this realtor, and I would strongly encourage anyone in search of an apartment in West Chester to contact the people at Zukin Realty. Pretty awful experience, as seems to be common with Zukin. This is clearly a realty used to dealing with students that don't know their being taken for a ride because they have no other options. Upon moving in, I knew something was up. First off, when we toured the apartment it was absolutely filthy, but, since tenants were occupying the unit at that time, we figured it was just their mess. However, on move in day, the unit was just plain dirty. It was gross in fact. Somehow, that was just the beginning. Our power was not on for some time due to an apparent issue Zukin was having with PECO over a "blown breaker". So after they finally got the power on and the unit was somewhat livable, we figured out that most of the windows were practically sealed shut from the paint melting in the sheer heat inside the unit. The pipes started to leak under our kitchen and bathroom sinks almost instantly, our washer was making a horrid noise and wasn't functioning properly, the dryer hardly worked, the water pressure from any source was god awful, the water temperature AND pressure was constantly fluctuating in the shower, the balcony door flung open during the night when the wind was even moderate (despite locking it). On top of all of this, for the price you pay for rent, the "security" Zukin provides is a joke and merely present to harass you, there's no parking included at all, my packages constantly are dropped off in the wrong place (I've even had an official court document come to me in the mail that had been opened by somebody and my mailbox too was left ajar), the "maitnence" is an absolute joke that will just show up and say "yeah it's broken!" then say they need a part and disappear. When our dryer did finally break they came to fix it promptly, when they looked at the unit they told us they are just going to install a brand new washer/dryer all together. So they returned about a month later (all this time I spent hand washing my clothes, going to a laundromat, or paying for the machines that are in my building which Zukin makes you PAY to use, and even at that, those machines barely work). However after a few uses of the dryer it began making a very loud grinding noise that was louder than a diesel truck running in our living room. So of course we call, the maintenance guy comes, turns the dryer on, hears the grinding noise, tells us he needs a part, and disappears. This is the last time we hear anything about the dryer until three weeks later when the "Frigidaire" tech came to look at our dryer; however he too said he "needed a part" as soon as he turned the dryer on, and left. After another THREE MONTHS of inquiring with Zukin as to what the deal is with our dryer, we finally get a response and they tell us the original dryer was "damaged in delivery" however that happened, and we would get another new dryer, again. All told we were without a working dryer for the entire winter essentially, and Zukin couldn't of cared less, and even acted irritated with me the more I inquired. When the warmer months came, Zukin began to tour our apartment at random and annoying times (the tour guide even attempted to rush me while I was getting dressed for work, to leave my room so he could show the new victims). They continually toured our apartment, and it was always at times where nobody would be home leaving our possessions out in the open for practically anybody coming through. I had even requested to be directly notified every single time there was a tour through my apartment at least a day in advance and I was told "only the spokesperson on the lease is notified about the tours". They refused to send me even an email about the tour (my roommate was horrible at communication, never telling me about tours) as if it didn't matter that I lived there. Zukin is an incredibly arbitrary and underhanded business that provides the bare minimum at maximum cost to you. Do yourself a gigantic favor and avoid Zukin properties like the plague. read more

The negative review above mine for Zukin Realty is very accurate. (There is a reason almost 30 people found it "useful" at the time I wrote this review). Parents of students be warned. The term "slumlord" is often thrown around in conversation with anyone who knows about or had prior experience with Zukin. Even local business owners renting Zukin commercial properties hate this company. When signing a contract with this company you need to be incredibly cautious. I rented from Zukin for two years between '06 - '08 while I was finishing college. (5 years ago and I am still furious). We had a great "looking" apartment on Market Street and lived at this residence for back to back years. Our experiences with this awful, deceitful company were rarely positive. If I knew more about my rights as a renter in college I would have taken more action against them. However, I ended up losing thousands of dollars in fraudulent cleaning charges, unfulfilled maintenance charges and stolen items. If you do rent for them, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING YOU DO! Take pictures upon moving in, take pictures upon moving out, send emails, get a lawyer, date and time every phone call made to their office and write down who you spoke with, get a third party involved if possible. They will do almost anything to charge money against you as a renter. In the end there are much more reputable realty companies to go with in West Chester other than Zukin. The unfortunate thing though is they own most of the rental locations in town. Please do yourself a favor and attempt to circumvent this company however possible. read more

Young and unprofessional. Worst service I have ever seen. Attitude every time I call like they are doing me a favor. They are suppose to close at 5, and they transfer the phone to an answering service (which is absolutely pointless) at 4:50. The answering service gives you Attitude as well and doesn't do anything to help you. If you're smart and want to be able to feel comfortable about something that is wrong with your apartment then you won't give these guys business. Absolutely terrible. I feel sorry for myself that I locked myself in a one year lease with them.... I'd give you guys a 0 if I could. read more

I have a student that rented from this company. They refuse to do any repairs unless you can make a fuss over them. Sometimes they will claim they repaired things that they haven't repaired and act as if you broken them again. They don't secure their buildings and when there is an issue rather than to repair it they prefer to place blame on someone. For instance on one occassion someone vandalized the exterior of the building that houses several rental units. Rather than to take care of it they threatened the renters that they would all be charged if the renters did not go and make the repairs. From what we hear they hardly ever return security deposits. Only time will tell with this one. I have told my student to carefully document everything. Like an above poster said before, their appearance is their bate. I lived in one of their apartments and friends of mine lived in another. Both beautiful at first, but man don't judge an apartment by it's cover. They will rip you off and completely refuse to update any fixes needed. Then blame it on the tenants and say it's their problem. Secondly, the office is completely unprofessional and I have to been yelled at in front of others too ( AS A PAYING CUSTOMER). It seems like the low-level workers just ignore it because they've seen it so much. The arrogance with these slumlords is repulsive. Choose wisely and cover your ass from the start if you consider them. Otherwise, I strongly advise to stay away. read more

I am currently still living in one of the apartments, and this is my second year renting from them. It is a complete nightmare with these people. They will give you bogus fines for literally everything (whether you were responsible for the violation or not). On top of that, do not expect fast service when something goes wrong. You will have to call them several times to remind them about the issue. So far this year alone, I have had several issues that took weeks to replace. My heat has broken three times this winter alone and the apartment went down to 50°F. I was given a single space heater to heat the apartment. Last year at my old apartment I notified them of a broken front door on my move in day. The door would only stay closed if you used the deadbolt. It was never fixed and when their workers entered my apartment they left without locking it. Sunglasses were stolen and when I went to their office they claimed it was not their fault and that I should have renters insurance for instances like this. I know many people who rent and have rented from them, and I cannot say that I have ever heard a positive review. Zukin Realty is a complete joke. Zukin owns a large portion of available student rentals. If it weren't so hard to find an apartment, there is no chance I would deal with these people. read more

Would never use again!!! Especially if you're a college student. And don't take an apartment anywhere on Gay St because you can't get a borough parking permit for $15/year so you have to pay Zukin $75/MONTH to park in one of their very narrow parking spaces and it may not be close to your apartment. This should be a crime in itself. You pay ALL utilities including trash which the trashcans are always overflowing! Shabby on their snow removal especially their parking lots. Move in day, we had to clean the apartment before moving in. Pretty sure they don't check their apartments before handing you the keys. There was food in the drain of the dishwasher, shower had to be scrubbed, broken blinds, and no screens in some of the windows. Had to pay extra for a third person in a two bedroom apartment. To replace a lost key it is a ridiculous amount of money to get another. Anything that needs to repaired or looked at in the apartment requires quite a few emails before they act. There is a no pet policy, but ask my neighbors how they got around that because they do have dogs! Many more issues with this company, but too tired to type them all. Will never, never, never, never, ever use this company again. Needless to say we did not renew our lease. Curious to see if they try to fight us on giving our full deposit back when we know the apartment will be in better shape than when we moved in! read more
