Commence swishy shampoo-commercial walk! I have only ever been to Blow Dry Bar in a rush. Which is why it's like a reliable friend, ready to swoop in a rescue you at the 11th hour when you realise you've left no time to get ready for that wedding/event/job interview/super hot date. Unfortunately my haphazard booking means I don't often see the same person twice and results have definitely varied. Service has been anything from 2 star to 5 star, but usually pretty happy with my hair. Blow Drys are their specialty, so they will accept pretty much any request. From big bouncy photo-worthy curls to "could you make it look like I just woke up looking this good?" - they have always nailed it. Yes, I have actually asked for that and yes they worked their magic to a subtle and lovely do. It might seem like a blow dry isn't that hard to stuff up for a hairdresser, but I've definitely made some bad choices in the past and left looking like an 80's glamour model and stung upwards of $60 for the privilege. BDB has never steered me wrong, which is why I go straight there without question when I'm in need of a confidence boosting look.

I had a short stay in Melbourne and figured why not get a haircut. Walked in and needed to schedule…read morean appointment for next day since no available open appointments the day I walked in. Anyways, got one for next day and had the director, Shuhei Fujita, who was excellent! I told him I just wanted my haircut a little shorter and he understood because majority of the staff is native Japanese speaking because didn't appear English was their first language. My haircut not only was great, but he recommended doing a few styles to try and I really liked the improvements he made to my haircut like adding a line. And we had a great conversation towards the end, when I wish we spoke in the beginning or in the middle of the haircut. We randomly talked about MLB baseball. The haircut also came with a short massage at the end for your head, which was an additional plus. Overall, excellent and outstanding service and haircut! If I ever come back to Melbourne, Australia, this will definitely be my go to for a haircut. It's so good I'm going to try and find a Japanese barber in my hometown in San Francisco.

The one who cut my hair is really nice! I have not had a big attention to my hairstyle and have no idea what kind of that I'd like to have. I just have a very vague imagination. But the one who cut my hair did a great job! I really liked it! Thank you!

I've been going to this Toni & Guy for about five years. I was really sad when the previous owner,…read moreMelvin, moved back to Singapore but the English guys who have taken it over in his wake are doing a really great job. The service is friendly, the cuts are great and there is, of course, always that offer of a drink with your cut. Once when I was getting my hair cut, a man came in off the street to ask about prices. When he was given the list, he started laughing and said, "Yeah, good luck getting people to pay that for a cut!" Sure, the cuts are at salon prices, so might be a bit out of people's budget, but I think they're probably one of the more reasonable ranges on the market (depending on level of stylist you choose) - and I have always felt that I have gotten my money's worth. Finally, I've had my most positive client-hairdresser relationships here, and that is the second most important thing I look for in a salon.

Upon arrival I was made to wait half an hour, while one staff member lazily swept up hair and the hairdresser ignored me. I used the bathroom during this time and found there was no soap. They had not just run out - there actually wasn't a soap dispenser there at all! What are they washing their hands with before touching my hair? Eventually I was called for my appointment. The 'Art Director' washed my hair and spent the entire time trying to sell me shampoo and conditioner at $60 each, and then spent about 15 minutes cutting my hair, all the while trying to sell me styling products and a hairbrush. She then told me she was late for her next client and called an assistant over to blow dry my hair. I requested a centre-parting with loose beachy waves - I got a deep side parting with strange tight ringlets bordering on dreadlocks. $112? Seriously? Don't waste your time and money - there are far superior salons in St Kilda.
