Oh my goodness, that was maybe the 'bestest' ice cream in the world... ..well some of the tops in frozen desserts definitely done right in Northeast Ohio! On the northern boundary of Hinckley and southern border of North Royalton at the southeast corner of Boston Road and West 130th Street sits Z's Cream & Bean. This area is great for outdoor recreation, and Z's is the place to rejuvenate your energy sources with ample choices, seating, & parking. Z's has a café style and casual cabin character. Everything shouts new, clean, pleasant experience for any couples, families, or groups of friends. Z's has so many options to choose from, but it's not overwhelming. The service is helpful and happy. We tried Z's Homemade Raspberry Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, which was flavorful, luscious, and rich. Z's Expresso Chocolate Shakes were deliciously easy to down, reinvigorating, and smooth. Z's Vanilla Rootbeer Floats were made with Z's creamy, sweet Homemade Vanilla and tasty A & W Root Beer. Everything was presented well. I would recommend scanning the freezers filled with Z's ice cream pints or quarts and cakes or cookies, if you don't find your particular selection behind the counter. I would even recommend taking a pint or quart to go, if you dine in to savor only some coffee or soups. On this trip, our family of 4 had several frozen treats all for under $25. The prices were very reasonable. On a next visit, I am curious to try Z's own soft serve "Buzzard" with the toppings swirled on the inside!

Nice atmosphere but low on different choices of icecream. They are known for over the rainbow yet they never seem to have it.

Nice place. However when I asked for a thick milkshake it wasnt very thick. Wish it was thick and had a more intense flavor.

Barbarino's

Reviews that slipped through the cracks (1 of 2)…read more You can see that I've given this place 4 stars but a couple of things about it are funny, at least to me. First, Vinnie Barbarino was the name of John Travolta's character in "Welcome Back Kotter." They made movies and shows with stereotypical people like that because they existed and still might. Then, there's the crowd at the bar, which I might study, and waitresses who might say "hon," hence a combo that is all too predictable in this area where little Olmsted Falls abuts the end of the county and farmland, yet are probably not as likely to be found in nearby Westlake or Bay Village. Barbarino's serve up Italian food that leans Italian-American. Italian-American leans a little thicker and heavier (just like American folks themselves) than does Italian food in Italy. But guess what ... after a while, Italians who have been living in this country will eat Italian-American food if it's at least fairly good. If they're silent, that means they like it. If they murmur or smirk, then it was perhaps too Eye-talian. (When they do land at a more true-to-form Italian bistro on this side of the pond, they'll be even happier.) Italians, Italian-Americans, and all others ought to find the food at Barbarino's to be pretty good. I had the Penne Barbarino which come with chicken and are prepared with an asiago cream sauce. Pasta Beverly was another dish under consideration. I know that red sauce is probably the healthier way to go, but this is one of the trespasses I treat myself to every now and then. The entree is presented in what might be a vessel bowl, albeit not the kind I find to be obnoxious. It's a capacious angled bowl that holds a lot of pasta ... and I was looking for a lot of pasta. The salad that came with meal had various excellent fresh ingredients that I also enjoyed. It was a cold night and it seemed like every seat at the bar, which I could see from where I was seated, was taken. I was trying to assess if there was enough sitcom potential there, but I wasn't quite sure. The server (I'm correcting myself from the term waitress up above) was helpful upon taking the order and also checked in on me, refilling my coffee that I needed to keep me warm and awake. The restaurant "complex" is fairly nice inside. Looking at it from the parking lot, the bar will be inside to the left, the restaurant will be in the middle, and the place where you go in to pick up pizza will be at the right. The dining room is a pleasant space to spend some time having a meal. The prices are about average for this type of eatery. I think that making a reservation is probably a good idea. I had seen this place when in this area before ... just driving down its street! I then got around to looking it up. I put it on my bucket list and it so happened that the time I was able to visit Barbarino's was during a cold snap! I enjoyed having dinner here and would return. It's just that most of the people I know with whom I could go here prefer to eat lighter fare. I am just going to ignore the dietary restrictions of "complicated" friends and acquaintances and recommend Barbarino's.

It's been years since we visited Barbarino's. I remember the first time I had a Margarita type…read morepizza (no red sauce). Today I ordered the bacon cheeseburger. I liked the way the bacon was crumbled in many pieces on the cheese. Every time you bit down on the sandwich you were sure to get a bite of it. It beats the bacon in slices in the middle of the burger. It was tasty and cooked well done exactly how I like it. My hubby liked his food as well. I ordered to go Eggplant Parmesan, dinner for a family member. I ordered desserts to go like the cheesecake and Tiramisu. The service was excellent and the server always on time with refills or checking on us to see if we needed anything else. We went earlier so there were not to many people. The dining area is a descent size.
