The wife and I took a nostalgic trip to the Zero Zest the other day. WOW!!!! It has not changed in almost 20 years. We used to live in walking distance and would go often. We used to take our dog for a kiddie cone before "pup cups" were a thing. The Zero Zest is still the best high quality soft serve stand in the area. The service was quick and the employees were friendly. The soft serve ice cream is delicious and the portions are not stingy. I had vanilla in a sugar cone with butterscotch dip. They cannot manage more than 2 in line.. they can't remember who gets what. Person who took my order had no idea what I asked for directly from menu- she said we don't make those. Really? The girl was rude, she asked for whose next and two lines had been in operation I knew I was next so I moved forward and the girl kind of scowled so I just said "I really was next" smiling and kinda trying to make light, when she rudely said well usually we only have one line. Best place in Parma for ice cream. It has an endless amount of good flavors. Zero Zest always seems to have a long line at the window. For sure it's worth waiting awhile. They have mix ins and lots of non dairy selections. A specialty here is the Avalanche. It mixes in candy or fruit with any ice cream. There's almost unlimited combinations you can make. It's about $5 for a medium cup. They have a vegan vanilla ice cream flavor that can also be used. It's made with almond milk. This place is very good for vegans and they also have a few sorbets. It always has long lines but they are fast. It used to be just cash only. They now accept credit cards so they have slightly updated. read more

I have loved this place since I was a kid. Is it nostalgia? Maybe a bit but honestly, there's a reason it's popular - just look at the lines during the summer. It's mostly a soft serve place with loads of cone options, avalanches (think dairy queen blizzard but better), shakes, etc. My go-to has been and will always be a chocolate brownie avalanche. Chocolate soft serve with delicious brownies, I always ask that they layer instead of mixing...the brownie pieces are larger and so so much better. But honestly I've sampled a decent chunk of the menu and have never been dissatisfied, there's something for everyone. They now have small cups for the avalanches and I find that to be more than enough. At under $4 you can't beat it. Great on hot days or just when you have a craving. Though in plain sight, it's a hidden treasure for those who don't/can't have dairy. On top of regular dairy ice cream treats, they offer Silk almond milk ice cream products. I ordered the butterfinger avalanche with almond milk. Delicious! Never thought I would be able to go somewhere and have a " DQ blizzard" styled treat again. The ice cream was a normal consistency of regular ice cream where sometime things with almond milk are a little watery. And they are far from skimpy with the toppings. I had a lot of butterfinger in every bite. It never made it home! Highly recommended. Especially for those tired of "plain Jane" ice cream because of allergies. read more

My favorite ice cream shop in Parma! Soooo many options, there's definitely something for everyone. Their soft serve is amazing. They have tons of flavor burst options for soft serve. They have sorbet and also vegan options as well. There's a small food menu that includes hot dogs and a few other things. The outdoor seating area is small. My only complaint is that they don't have napkins readily available near the windows. And then they only give you one tiny napkin each time you ask which is a pain when you're with kids who tend to make a mess lol. But otherwise this place is our go to every single time! read more

Zero Zest is a cute little ice cream shop that I've been patronizing since I moved to Parma in the 4th grade. I've gone through phases of ordering slush floats, turtle sundaes, sprinkle cones and dip cones but nothing beats their strawberry shortcake sundae. A few years ago the shop began accepting credit cards which was an added convenience. I also appreciate how the shop supports the community, opening early on the day of the Ukrainian parade and making donations to local festivals. There are only a few outdoor picnic tables available for seating so guests sit on wooden barracks that line the sidewalk. The line is often long but well worth the wait! read more

I got an avalanche, which is similar to a blizzard, but waaaaay better. Don't get me wrong, I love the DQ, but this avalanche treat was loaded with all the yummies, came at a fraction of the price, and was much larger that what I would have received at DQ. The flavors were really good-nice consistency, no iciness or freezer burn. Another really really great thing-they offer non dairy soft serve! An almond milk version, which made my boyfriend so happy! I will start by saying I prefer to support small local businesses like Zero Zest. I went with my daughter on a Friday night at 9:40PM to get a shake and a cone for her. We waited a minute or so with 3 women in front of us. As we walked by the two girls working inside did see us. After the minute they turned off their lights and did not say anything. They were supposed to be open until 10PM. It was rude and of course a good reason to never go back. If they needed to close early for some reason then treat people like humans and explain why. read more

This place has rave reviews and that is all good maybe I am just picky when it comes to ice cream. When I roll up to a roadside staple such as zero zest my bar is lowered when compared to "gourmet" competitors like Mitchell's or Sweet Moses (which you must experience when you feel the need for ice cream heaven). However, lowered bar is sent crashing to the ground when the cardinal sin of blizzard or concrete making is committed. For goodness sakes spread the topping of choice throughout the dessert. Nothing is worse than wrapping up your blizzard or whatever they call it there and just eating spoonfuls of plain ole vanilla ice cream.
