1 STAR -- No business being in business…read more
We dropped our golf cart off May 28 and were told approximately 2 weeks. We finally got it back September 15, and didn't receive the completed paperwork and plate until September 18 -- nearly FOUR MONTHS later.
The delay was bad, but the lack of communication and constant missed promises made this experience terrible.
Throughout June, July, and August, we repeatedly called, texted, and physically visited the shop trying to get updates. We were constantly told someone would call us back, and many times nobody did. On July 7, after multiple attempts to get answers, we finally received a quote and were told another two weeks. By August 13 -- 11 weeks after drop-off -- we were still waiting.
On August 25, we learned the employee we'd been dealing with was no longer there. The person taking over wasn't even sure whether our paperwork had actually been submitted or whether the needed parts had been ordered.
On September 9, we were told everything was finished and the cart would be delivered within two days. On September 10, we received an invoice for $2,145 and paid it in full. The next day, instead of delivery, we learned paperwork still needed to be notarized. We were also told there was an additional $283 balance, which couldn't be explained to us at the time.
The cart was finally delivered September 15, but without the promised paperwork and plate. After even more calls, missed callbacks, and another trip to the shop, we told the owner on September 17 that we were prepared to send a formal demand and involve an attorney if necessary.
We FINALLY received our paperwork and plate September 18.
I understand businesses get busy, employees leave, and delays happen. What I don't understand is why a customer should have to spend nearly four months repeatedly calling, texting, and physically showing up just to get basic answers.
We were given multiple timelines, promised callbacks, completion dates, and delivery dates that simply didn't happen. Employees seemed unable to tell us what other employees had or hadn't done, and we repeatedly received changing explanations.
I also noticed the business was showing as "permanently closed" on Google while we were still visiting the location and they appeared to be conducting business. I don't know why Google showed that status, but it's worth mentioning for anyone looking for reviews.
May 28 to September 18 for something originally estimated at two weeks.
Based on our experience, I would not use OBX Beach Buggies again or recommend them to friends or family. If you do business here, get everything in writing and save every text, email, quote, invoice, receipt, and promised completion date.
The work itself wasn't the biggest issue. It was nearly four months of poor communication, missed callbacks, changing explanations, and missed deadlines.
