He gave me sound advice and seemed very knowledgeable about how insurance companies run their businesses. I was unfortunately in a car accident with one of their rental cars the same day I got it. What I thought was going to turn into a colossal nightmare of endless insurance claims and monthly payments ended up turning into a pleasant outcome. The staff at Zoom Rent-a-car were all very kind and helpful to me, especially when I was returning the car I had damaged. They gave me a brand new car (2020 Toyota Corolla) to replace the same model I had rented from them. They said not to worry about the finances until I return the car. They knew I was stressed out of my mind and I didn't know what to do. I felt helpless. Their words of encouragement helped me enjoy my week-long trip to Banff. Instead of taking advantage of me financially, Max was able to coordinate claims with my credit card company through Card Benefit Services and assured me multiple times that the insurance companies will handle everything and that I wouldn't have to pay a dime! Thinking this was too good to be true, I proceeded with caution and checked in with Max for advice and consultation on numerous occasions throughout my trip and afterwards. With Max's support and professional skills dealing with insurance companies, I didn't end up paying anything. I could have easily been liable for over tens of thousands of dollars but with Max's help and assurance, he saved my life financially. I rented a van from Zoom Rent A Car in Calgary, AB, and it turned out to be an absolute nightmare. When I picked up the van, I trusted their inspection process -- thinking they'd be professional and thorough. Big mistake. Upon returning the vehicle, they suddenly claimed there was a small dent at rear bumper. That dent was so minor and inconspicuous that it could've easily been there from the start, but they used it to accuse me of causing damage I know I didn't do. I later checked the reviews (which I really wish I had done earlier) and found that many other customers went through the exact same thing -- being blamed for tiny or pre-existing damages after trusting their inspection process. To make matters worse, they refused to take me to the airport when I returned the car, even though they had promised and provided shuttle service when I arrived. Unscrupulous business practices. We rented a 8 passenger vehicle via a 3rd party for Zoom rental car services. The night before we were scheduled to arrive in Orlando, we received an email at 9:53PM CST as follows: Good evening. This is StarkOne (Zoom) Car Rental. We are contacting you to inform you that, according to our system, your reservation scheduled for tomorrow Wednesday, June 25th, 2025 at 5:00PM, appears as cancelled. Regrettably, there is little we can do on our end, as we are unable to provide the vehicle without an active reservation. This situation is beyond our control. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your understanding. Upon contacting the rental agency they could not provide an explanation as to why our reservation was cancelled. Our 3rd party investigated and advised they were notified the vehicle was no longer available due to overbooking. Upon further investigation, they discovered the vehicle was appearing in their portable as available for rent at almost 3 times the rate we were previously quoted. Dreadful!!!! Do not use them, total scam. They left us at the airport at 7:30pm and said sorry we were closed. Gave them flight number when we made reservation to land at 7:08 and pick up car at 7:30. We were delayed 8 minutes, landed at 7:16 made it to shuttle pick up at 7:36. Waited for 45 minutes while calling the number over 10 times and no one picking up, but recording said they close at 7pm. Finally took $30 uber to hotel to deal with in the morning. If we hadn't already paid $150 deposit we would have just moved on with another company. Called in the morning and they claim because our flight was delayed 8 minutes, which they could see, and we didn't call they closed for the night. It was our fault. I said i've never had to call a rental company for an 8 minute delay landing at 7:16, why does your company close at 7pm at an international airport? He said we should have jumped out of the plane to make it on time. Not joking. I filed a complaint with my credit card company because they will not give me my $150 deposit back. We landed late during Stampede, only to be told over the phone, "You missed the last shuttle 5 minutes ago you better get here in 30 minutes before we close or you're not getting your car--good luck." Panicked, we grabbed a cab to make it which we did. At the counter we were met by a bald tanned attendant with distinct eyebrows (name withheld) who questioned our tardiness. He threatened to not give us the car rental for being late due to a flight delay and said "It is my decision if I want to rent to you or not at this point". A heated confrontation followed--with threats and physical posturing. My partner left shaking. This aggressive interaction went on well beyond 10 minutes. We had to literally beg this guy to give us the car rental... which he eventually agreed to stating "okay I will do you this favour". I don't feel I need to explain any further. I offered to use my own coverage, but was forced into their insurance plan--and hit with a $1,000 deposit. I reported this to my credit card later. To make matters worse, the company's disregard for privacy was astounding--i noticed previous replies to reviews exposing private information - have a read yourself! The return was handled by a much friendlier agent, but the damage was done. We spent the entire rental paranoid and stressed. I'm writing this months after that Stampede week, still shaken by how a trip meant to celebrate easily turned into a nightmare. Consider choosing a more reliable rental agency. There was a visible crack on the windshield when I picked up the car, which I immediately noticed, but the staff failed to document it during the inspection. I trusted the process, assuming they would be thorough -- big mistake. Now they're claiming I caused the damage and are holding $500 from me, and my insurance is being dragged into covering it. Completely unfair and avoidable if they had done their job right. I've contacted customer service, but so far no resolution. I believe this business is fraudulent. First off, read their reviews on Yelp. The good reviews on Google are mostly fake. Also, look them up on the better business bureau. You will see that their score is 1 out of 5, that they have had 8 official complaints lodged against them in the last 3 years, and that BBB gives them a rating of D (extremely low). I have gone to the police with my fraud claim, but because they are going through my insurance, it is my insurance company who has to launch the fraud investigation. I encourage anyone who feels they have been defrauded by this business to file a report with the police to assist in building a case and to report them to the BBB. I rented a car for 4 days and the car was driven from work to home each day where it was parked in my driveway and private work parkade stalls. At no time could the car have been involved in an accident. Yet when I dropped the vehicle off, the front desk clerk came outside before I had even gotten out of the vehicle, and through dirt, ice, and snow, he was magically able to immediately identify a small scratch on the wheel well of the car. I asked why he came out so fast and instantly went to the damage, he stated "he could see it from inside". I did not go over the vehicle with a fine toothed comb before renting it because I trusted the good faith of this business which was a mistake. I was told that after a vehicle is dropped off, they make it "brand new again" at the renter's expense. I believe that they don't actually conduct the repairs they charge people for. They tried to make me sign a blank Insurance document before I left (extremely fraudulent) authorizing any and all repairs. I said I wouldn't sign a blank document (they could have put anything they wanted onto it after I left) and they told me they would force charge my credit card for the amount of any repairs and put a credit hold on me until it was paid if I didnt sign it. They also tried to force me to leave a deposit with them, with the threat of sending me to collections if I didn't. The situation was very tense and confrontational but luckily I didn't give in to the pressure. I wish I would have spent just a little more upfront and gone to a reputable car rental agency. I might have paid more to begin with but I definitely would have paid much less in the long run. I reserved a car from their Houston location in June 2025. This was one of the worst travel companies I have ever experienced! Horrible airport shuttle experience. Just one small SUV that only fit four people (there were 10 waiting so people had to wait forever). Rude, unprofessional staff but the trouble really started when I turned down their insurance coverage(both my insurance and my credit card offer me full coverage on my rental). The one gruff, angry representative behind the counter started getting nastier with me. He first asked for my credit card receipt. I had my booking confirmation on my phone showing what I paid and since I paid during my online booking, I didn't have a credit card receipt handy. Then he said they charge a $350 deposit, nearly twice what Hertz or Avis or Sixt charge. Then he was angry because i turned down another extra charge and started grilling me about where I was driving. He didn't like my answer and told me I couldn't have a car. I was in shock! I had been polite, provided my insurance and credit card (which has enough credit available to buy a small car) and it devolved when i turned his extras down. As I was leaving to go back to the rental car hub (this place is way off airport property in a questionable area) there was another couple who also had just been refused their car. I had to fight with the OTA to get my payment refunded but I did. I think they are running a scam where they refuse people who pay and keep the money and rent the car to someone else. Don't be fooled by their super cheap prices and stay away from them and rent from a reputable company. Awesome guys, honest and nice. The location is offsite, inside the Hilton hotel. Just call them up, shuttle shows up fast and it's a 5 minute drive to the car location. We arrived 3 hour late because of the airline, these guys were supposed to be done but they stayed past their closing time to pick. Up multiple passengers on the same flight. When we arrived, a guy named Max was honest and nice enough to tell me to call my credit card company to see if they offered international car insurance, sure enough they did! We actually rented a car through Europacar, but they had run out of cars before our arrival. When we arrived in Calgary we were told they would be taking us to a different company. We didn't think too much of it until we met Max. Max was condescending and rude throughout the entire process of picking up the car(not only to us but the groups and front and behind us). We didn't think too much of it and went on our trip and had an amazing time in Banff. Upon our arrival to turn in the car we were met by Max again. After inspecting our car he informed us there was a small ding in the lower right hand corner of the windshield. Fair enough(not shocking after driving through multiple construction zones of the high way and 70 mph wind). What was shocking was when he explained to us that it was going to cost us an additional $1500 because it was going to require a full windshield replacement. When we were startled that such a small ding would require a full change as well as it costing that much Max got even more rude and condescending (which was more shocking than the cost since we couldn't imagine someone in customer service being worse than what we first encountered). When trying to get information of how to go through our insurance Max suddenly lost his know-it-all demeanor and couldn't explain anything since we utilized our own insurance instead of purchasing it through them for an additional cost. When asking to do another walkthrough with an employee that employee explained "yeah sorry he gets that way. He doesn't like being wrong and will get a bit rude if it seems he may be". Yikes not the best review from a co worker. Unfortunately after the incident we read other reviews from others being up-charged for similar things from Max specifically. Seems like he may get some type of commission for these types of fees. Due to the fact that we did not chose this rental company and weren't notified through Expedia(where we booked) or Eurocars(who we booked through), we were unable to check reviews or we would have never used such an untrusted company. Somehow these guys missed that transition. It took over an hour to get our rental car. Then they tried to make us buy insurance from them claiming it was required by Canadian law. Can you say con artists? I have rented cars in many countries and never had this problem. Although calgary airport has an onsite rental facility, you must take a shuttle offsite to this company. Once there they then demand proof of liability insurance from your own car insurance. If you don't have at least 1 million in coverage, they tell you that you have to buy theirs at $9.00 a day extra. In my case this almost doubled the rental rate. All for something that they don't have to do and i have never had another rental company do. They post lower online rates to sucker people out away from the airport and then use the inconvenience factor to try and make you buy their insurance. If it was really just a policy, they would make sure to let you know the requirement in advance so you could be prepared to come with documentation or rent somewhere else. Do yourself a favor. It's pretty clear they have a slick scam going and after getting back from my trip (where dealing with them was a nightmare) I was stunned to see so many reviews here that mirrored my experience exactly. I got a small stone chip on my windshield during my rental. About the size of a dime. Upon returning to ZOOM in Calgary, they told me they would need to take a $1000 deposit to cover the damages. I was surprised, because when I picked up the car they took a $500 deposit from me to cover "damages" which is what all rental cars do when you pick up a car. But the Zoom staff claimed that "$500 deposit wasn't actually for damages". I got a phone call from Max (who I now see is notorious for these shenanigans) a few hours later. When he again told me that $500 deposit was not to cover damages, and that I shouldn't worry because "my insurance would pay for everything and I should just go a long with it and he'd make it easy" I had to read him parts of the Zoom website that directly contradicted him. Namely the part where it directly states that the $500 deposit taken at the time of rental was indeed clearly described to cover damages. He then stated that $500 wouldn't cover the full cost of a windshield repair (likely true), and that it would likely be closer to $1000 (a windshield for the car I rented costs about $450 so unless they are used to paying some scam mechanic $500 to replace a windshield I have no clue where he pulled this absurd number from). Which then led me to ask why they didn't just take another $500 deposit (to add to my initial deposit) instead of another $1000. Of course he had no answer for that. At this point he started to get really rude and condescending... clearly not liking to be proved a liar in the middle of his well practiced scam. Overall, dealing with this company left me feeling like they have made a habit out of hyper inflating tiny damages (and from the sounds of things, damages that existed on their cars before some people even picked them up) in order to bilk insurance companies. And that Max and his team have been trained to try and talk circles around weary or hurried travellers who are used to dealing with big brand companies that all operate in a consistent and transparent fashion... and who don't expect a rental company to use all kinds of slick or sketchy tactics to rip them off.
