I immediately filed an insurance claim. After receiving an estimate from the insurance company on the 30th I booked a day with Simplicity Car Care Calgary South where I could leave my car for repair. The repair day turned out to be a month later on September 25, as they assured me that they needed time to order the parts. Well, with a damaged car I am waiting for the appointed date and on September 25 I left my car, it was agreed that they will do the repair in 5 days, in the end they did it in 16, because they did not order the parts for the previous month. Not only that they repaired three times longer than the stated time, but they did not repair the side view mirror. There was a crack on the housing, but they assured me that they would replace it within 1-2 weeks. As a result, 20 days have passed since then, they are silent and are not going to repair what they were obliged to do. I do not recommend using the services of this company.

But since the dealership was only a few blocks from the office I went over to check it out. This is a pretty small dealership and their lot is full-up with vehicles so you'll have to park on the street or maybe in the McD's lot across the street. Upon walking up to the door I was greeted by Dave. He asked what he could help me with and I explained that I saw that they had a van online. He pointed it out on the lot, told me a little bit about it, and grabbed the keys so I could have a look. The van was a 2001 Ford E-250 with only 120,000 KM's on it, no rust, and what looked to be a good looking vehicle all around. Now, being at a small used car dealership the typical stereotypes set in like what was done to the vehicle to make it seem so great. After a thorough look and a test drive, Dave showed me the vehicle inspection report and the Car Proof report. Other than the van needing a brake job sooner than later and the Car Proof showing that there was a minor $1100 fender-bender a year ago, everything seemed to check out. It seems like whoever owned the van just took really good care of it and didn't drive it much. Before making a purchase, I wanted to have another set up eyes have a look at the van just to make sure I didn't miss something critical. Dave let me take the van across the city to my dad's office so he could have a look at it too. Everything seemed to check out to him also and even he was surprised at the condition. He remarked that this was better than the vehicles we had been looking at at the auction a few days before. With everything looking good it was time to talk about price. The Canadian Black Book says that an average price for the base model of this particular van was about $5700. The dealership had an $8000 sticker on it not including taxes and fees. Considering the vehicle's great condition, half the mileage it should have, upgrades like power everything and a V8 engine instead of a V6, we landed on a price of $7800 all-in. I have to say that Dave was great. I didn't feel pressured to make a purchase and I didn't feel like I was being "sold" on this van. He was very straight-forward and it was a natural process, not forced. In the future when I'm looking for another vehicle I'll be stopping by here again.
