This was our second time renting with Alamo--our first was at the Las Vegas airport, where we had such a great experience that we wanted to try them again. I'll admit, after reading some of the reviews, I felt a little nervous, but I decided to give them a chance anyway. They are pricier than some other rental companies, but I'd rather pay a little more for peace of mind than deal with companies that have worse reviews. And wow, I'm so glad I did! When we got to the counter, there was no line at all. The agent checked us in quickly, and within minutes we were on our way. The whole process took less than 15 minutes. Returning the car was just as smooth. Even though a lot of people were dropping off their cars at the same time, there were plenty of staff available. At times car rentals after you arrive at a new location can be a nightmare or just overwhelming but we booked in advance and it was smooth sailing as we arrived for pick up. When we arrived in Calgary it was an Easy to find Alamo Car rental and there were several people but our whole process was maybe 10 min and then we were set and ready to go. We got a Toyota Rav-4 and was very comfy for the traveling and exploring we were going to do. It synced well with my phone so we had our Google maps and all that good stuff. Loved that they provided a special tool in case for snow in the mornings to scrape off we didn't need it but that was a nice touch. The car was very clean and their customer service was good. One thing I'd like to pin point and wish we knew this sooner is the Gas part. We didn't really know how that worked or how much we'd need to fill up so we just payed in advance it was about $100 Canadian. We returned it with half a tank and well we could have saved $ by filling it up ourselves. So it's smart to fill up cheaper then having to over pay just a bit for a set amount that they offer cause our car filled up with $70 so just a tip. 6 day car rental. Alamo Car Rental is a quick walk across the terminal. Registration/check in was quick, there was no line. However there was no attendant at the garage so there was a short wait there and a bit of a confusion as to whether we had to wait for someone or just get into any car. But once the employee came, he started assigning cars. We got a 2022 Volkswagen Jetta that had about 43,000 kilometers. The car was clean and drove well, good fuel efficiency. Drop off was quick and easy. Reminder when renting a car from any company: inspect/walk around the car and take a video of entire car, save yourself the hassle of damage disputes. read more

We had heard of very long lines at the Calgary airport rental car facilities. What a pleasant surprise when Alamo had us in and out within 10 minutes. We were given a Nissan Sentra with 45 miles on it!! They told us we were the first to rent that specific car. We gave the car quite the tour of Alberta!! Property thieves. Beware. Left a pair of Apple AirPods Max headphones in the car (retail for ~$800) and immediately called them back and they said they would look for it. However they never called back. The thief is probably unaware that these headphones have GPS tracking on them and just took them thinking no one would know. But later in the evening (around 7 - presumably when thief's shift ended) we saw the headphones moving from the airport to a different location (Munro Park). At the time, we just assumed they didn't find them before it had been rented out by new people and thought maybe we could just meet up with the new renters and ask to get our headphones back. However, upon reaching the location we didn't see the rental car at all - that's when we knew the headphones must have been been stolen by an employee. Later the headphones moved to a house - presumably the thief's address: 59 Castlepark Road NE. We have tried calling this Alamo branch countless times and they just drop our calls. I've also called the central Alamo customer service number and not gotten any help. Either this is an inside job or this branch just doesn't care that one of its employees has committed almost-felony level property theft. read more

The terms of the agreement was explained clearly to us and we walked to the car selection area. The selection was limited when we arrived, but they brought over a nice SUV from the National side. We rented a car from Alamo for a 10 day trip. The pick up process was smooth and was given a vehicle inspection form but it wasn't properly signed. I checked the car but there were no dents so all was good. In the US when renting a car, the employees are way more professional about it. The actual rental experience was really nice until we went to return it. As soon as we returned the car, one of the employees saw that we didn't get their insurance and started vigorously checking the car for the smallest things but couldn't find anything until he saw the roof/top of the car. Literally the "three" dents he found from when we were out when it was unexpectedly hailing one day warranted a $300 deductible and further costs to repair the car. YOU CAN BARELY SEE THE DENTS. We kept good care of the car but the hail was out of our control - the dents are not even noticeable without their tool that they use. This has never happened when renting a car from Alamo from the states and WILL NOT be renting from them again. Literally ruined the end of my vacation and my car rental experience. read more

The level of service I was provided at Alamo Rent a Car by Gurmit was outstanding! I chose the Mystery Option for my rental and was nervous when I was given a large 3 row SUV since I'm used to driving smaller cars. Gurmit was in the booth ready to check me out and immediately sensed my apprehension without me having to say a word. In the end, I was able to quickly find a smaller vehicle thanks to Gurmit. So far my experience with Alamo Calgary Airport has been good, and without complaint. While I'm normally a bit hestitant of car rental companies, Booking offered me a rental car for my trip to Calgary and I thought why not, as we wanted to go to the Rockies. Staff at the front desk was friendly, the price for the rental was very fair, and the guys who handed me the car were friendly and things went swift. Which was nice because of the jet lag. The car was a bit bigger than expected which was extra nice and within the car some maps and info on the region. When we finished registering, they said there were "no cars ready at the moment", so we ended up waiting another hour and a half. STAY AWAY!!!! Like several people in the comments, I was given an "upgrade" to a different vehicle and I did a walkaround before driving off (note wasn't given to sign anything after seeing the car) and took a picture of an obvious black lines on the bumper - the only thing that I saw was a damage. When we returned, the worker assessed our car with a tool and was writing us a "good-to-go" when, absolutely miraculously the infamous manager came in straight to our car and in a second found a dent. The worker with a tool didn't see it (or knew it was there before) but he saw it with his bare eyes. The car was white so it was very hard to see anything and the dent was perfectly hidden and no paint chipping was there (as if someone made is with a soft tool instead of it being a car door bump with a paint chip dot in the middle like he said it maybe was) and the rough marker estimate he made of the size was perfectly 1-2mm bigger than his tool allowed. THEY DO NOT MAKE ANY RECORD OF INSPECTING (twice as he said) A CAR BEFORE YOU. So you will essentially have no proof of anything. As long as you, non-professional with no tool, don't notice it yourself at the start - it is your problem. He also insisted that I'd be ok if I purchased the insurance from them originally (did it on Expedia - didn't think there is any difference) and there would be no problem. But, since I refused, I have to file a claim. In conclusion, - they keep no record of inspecting cars (and for sure no photoproof) - they push on those who bought insurance from outside or no insurance at all - they coincidentally give you a suitable car and then find the almost invisible dent upon return - they push you to file a claim so they can get the insurance money from you or your provider "Amazing" business strategy. --------UPDATE 3 WEEKS LATER----------- Got the bill for $400 and no means to dispute/find out the sate of the car before the rent. However, maybe we were lucky but our experience with Alamo couldn't have been better. The whole process from an easy check in to a simple checkout was provided with courteous and professional service.. even going so far as to ask us two separate times, "how was our customer service?". Worst customer service ever! First, we were ensured that after numerous flight delays the Alamo reps at the airport would wait up to two hours after closing time for us to rent our car. We arrived 45 mins after close and there was no employees left. Myself and a handful of other travelers on our flight had to wait overnight at the airport due to the miscommunication between call center and airport reps. Moreover, it is impossible to get in touch with any on-ground employees. We called multiple times to try and get in touch with someone at the airport moments after we left valuables in the car. The call center employees told us to go back to the airport (because somehow they didn't have the phone number for the front desk at the airport...) which we did, and then we were told that they would be closed for the next few days. Not a single person mentioned this over the phone when they were encouraging us to take costly transport to the airport to receive our goods. We have assumed our valuables are gone at this point in time as I am seeing a review below confirming that property theft is something you need to watch out for with this company. So much extra money and time on our trip was lost dealing with mistakes made by the staff and the company decided to take on an "it-is-what-it-is" demeanor. No sympathies whatsoever, or offers to remedy or alleviate the inconveniences faced due to their negligence were offered. I will continue to leave these reviews on every site possible in order to deter travelers from dealing with this company's poor excuse for "customer service". If there's a worse rental car experience than Alamo at Calgary Airport, I can't even image it. I spent 30 minutes in a slow line after doing everything but paying online in advance. Paperwork was processed in a few minutes, and I paid the entire cost of the 5 day rental before being told to wait some more. Another 20 minutes went by before I was told to proceed to the garage to claim the car, but there was no indication of which car to look for. No Alamo employee was evident in the garage and I dodged cars exiting the garage while looking for help. Another15 minutes went by before I finally tracked down an employee (or I hope he was an employee since he wasn't wearing any Alamo identification), who was able to locate the car. I reserved and paid for a midsize, but was given a compact with a bunch of scratches on it. By then I was in no mood for any further delays, and just took what they gave me. It took another 15 minutes to exit the lot. The person at the exit booth took her sweet time letting people go. What a mess. Never again. read more

Worst experience we've ever had with a car rental agency!!! We booked a car online for pickup two weeks ahead (at the downtown Calgary location) and when we got there, it said the location was closed (we booked for 3pm) even though when we booked we checked online and it said the location would be open until 4 pm. We called their customer service but they were completely useless and said they couldn't do anything and told us to go to their airport location. We had to pay $40 for a taxi from the Calgary airport to the downtown location to pick up this car and now we had to pay another $40 to go back to the airport for a solution. When we got to the airport location, the workers were so incompetent and didn't know how to deal with this. They called the manager and the manager didn't even bother listening to our problem, he said he can't do anything for us and cut the call very abruptly. Now we were stranded at the airport without a rental car and were on phone with their customer service for an hour trying to find a solution and all they said they could do was "raise a complaint". They said they would call us back within a day and it has been one week since and still no call. This whole situation was entirely their fault since they shouldn't have even allowed us to book a car at a time when the location is closed and on top of that their customer service was the worst I've ever come across in my entire life! read more

Car was pretty new, everything go smooth, just when I back to Toronto, i checked my credit card account on the other day, they"Alamo" draw $1000 from my credit card, without any notice or any explanation. I keep sending them a email, about a week later, I just got bullshit from them.... would never rent or recommend Alamo to anybody...and be careful of you credit card. read more

The car was pretty new and in good condition but there were so many pet hair on passenger seats and carpet. They did a bad job at cleaning the car before handing to us. They charged us for refilling without notifying us. I found it on the final receipt. read more

Alamo rental car had been a good to me over my travels in the U.S., so when I booked them on Priceline.com, I was happy that Alamo / Priceline accepted my price offer for my August 2015 trip to Calgary and surrounding areas. The bid was $20/day, I think and I got the car from 08/21-08/25/2015. I arrived at YYC Calgary international airport at about 12pm. Finding the rental car counter was a snap, after getting through Canada customs and border security. I am glad that majority of the traffic laws, practices and culture are evident in Canada. Just be aware of road signage in meters and kilometers and you'll be fine. Upon arrival, the line was very short, so that was a plus. The lady at the Alamo counter greeted me in and checked my reservation. She gave me a Toyota RAV4, but I decided to choose something else. I was told to wait 20 minutes, but ended up being 5-7 minutes. I ended up with a 2014 Hyundai Sonata, which was quite swanky and just made 18,000 miles. This car was pretty nice and the drive was smooth. This Alamo rental car shares its space with the other major U.S. Rental car companies here at the YYC Calgary international airport. Its fleet is held in a compact parking garage that does quick business daily. I chose to do the rental car insurance, which was priced at $28/day. Never can be too sure about people out there these days. They ask you for your driver's license and credit card, but not your passport, which was a little surprising, but I guess that's how it is. The rental service was quick and expedient, as well as the return process. The attendant checked back the car into the fleet inventory and gave me my receipt and I was good to go; after picking up my luggage from the car. Best bet would be to grab the best price online with Priceline, if you are a budget conscious. For those of you who love the loyalty program Alamo has, rent from them as you travel to gain the perks from them. For what is was worth, renting from Alamo has been a positive experience for me. The staff here at YYC Calgary airport was friendly and appreciative of me being there and renting a car from them. It was the first time picking up a rental car inside Canada. Before that, it was picking up from the USA side and driving it across the border, so it was a special treat for me. It was also the first time driving a car with km/hr odometer gauge. I was used to mph and it was an adjustment when I got out there on the roads. It was kind of cool to have gone 100 km/hour, but that only translates to 62 mph, which is basic highway speed. My time with Alamo in Calgary was a good and positive one. I wished that the car rental insurance was less than it was, but I guess that's how they make money. Hi! I wanted to write this review since my experience with both pickup and drop off for my rental car was a terrible experience. I picked up a car from Vancouver airport on Aug 7, 2020. I had repeatedly asked for a sedan - but I kept getting pushed for a SUV and finally succumbed. There was no inspection details provided to me upon pickup. However, when returning the vehicle at Alamo Calgary airport - the branch manager (JM), definitely not social distancing nor wearing a mask, consistently insisted that he could see a dent on the right passenger side of the vehicle. There was no way for us to tell whether it was a dent or not, and no way for us to know whether the dent had already been there when we picked up the car at Vancouver airport. The branch manager (JM) used the dent measurement tool and I still could not see the dent, let alone it be larger than his measurement device. At this point, he decided to pursue damage services, while being very discourteous. I am very disappointed at the lack of compassion and manners, as well as lack of transparency during pre-pickup and post-drop off inspections. Especially during COVID times, the only way to encourage tourism and travel (which is the heart of Alamo's business) is to be compassionate towards the customers who are willing to continue using your services. This is no way to treat a customer at this time, and to be truthful, at any time, regardless of a global pandemic. I will definitely not be using Alamo services moving forward. read more

Lack of transparency during pick up as well as pressure to go forward with an SUV while we originally asked for a full-sized Sedan. Note there were no inspection or walk through during pick up from YVR. Fast forward to drop-off, and there is apparently a dent that was absolutely impossible to view coupled with discourteous behaviour and lack of understanding regarding our case from the branch manager at YYC. I have formerly utilized several rental cars from other companies who have provided me with stellar service. Pros: Staff were fine, easy return, and the car didn't give us any trouble (our humble Chevy Cruze even managed to embarrass a Corvette trying to pass on the highway lol). Happily, the location is close to the terminal - no need to take a bus or tram. Cons: Annoyingly, we waited 15 mins for keys that, as it turned out, were sitting right in front of the customer service agent the whole time - stupid! Price: About $200 CAD total for 4 days in May (booked about 1 month in advance). Keep in mind: If you refill gas before returning, note that the nearby gas station is diesel ONLY. We had to drive back towards a more commercial neighborhood to find a gas station. read more

At the end of November I made a reservation for my family's first ski trip in the Rockies. I booked an SUV and called the Calgary location the same day, to request winter tires and a ski/ roof rack. This was noted in my reservation and I was promised both. As a precaution I called yesterday - now that we're only two weeks away and getting pretty excited - and was told that, no, I would have neither racks or winters. I could though have the option of upgrading to a bigger vehicle if I liked, for double the price! No other solutions were offered. To add insult to injury the location manager, who was apparently too busy to talk to me at the time, never called me back. Enterprise/ Budget/ Avis... anything except Alamo next time! read more

The Calgary Airport Alamo is not worth even one star, but I order to post this I had to select a rating. As soon as I returned my rental vehicle on July 5, 2021 and they realised that I hadn't purchased their $29.00 a day "hail insurance," they bent over backwards to find some so-called damage. In the pictures they sent me two weeks later, there is absolutely no evidence of any kind of damage. Before I turned it in, I inspected the car and there was no damage; their own employee inspected it when I turned it in 10 minutes later and told me I was "good to go." When I asked for a receipt, I was told that that's "not their policy". They are now trying to charge me $1300.00 for non-existent "damage." These people are are nothing more than a gang of thieves. Don't ever rent a vehicle from Alamo unless you want to deal with their attempts at extortion. read more

We had a serious issue with the car rental ALAMO, from whom we had picked up the car at Calgary airport. Upon departure at the gate we queried as to why the vehicle speedometer was set at Miles per hour (MPH) instead of kilometer per hour. Also, we had not been notified of this setting by ALAMO during handover. The agent said he did not know how to change it. Then he stated that he was confident that the speedometer was configured in kilometers per hour, as there was no way, a car could have a speedometer range up to 220 MPH. My partner and I trusted his statement. Nonetheless, whilst driving on the highway towards Jasper we got pulled over by the police advising that I had been driving at 141Km/hr, instead of 80kms/hr (since the speedometer displayed 80!, but MPH, not kms/hr!!). I learnt by the police that the speedometer was configured incorrectly to MPH, he took my license away for review then came back and issued me with a formal warning as well as returned my license. I have attached copy of this document. It is unacceptable that ALAMO is delivering a vehicle configured in MPH in a country that is using kilometers per hour. We did not receive a conversion table to adjust the speed. Immediately after the incident with the highway patrol, I rang ALAMO call center to request to change the car for one with a speedometer set in km/hr, the first agent wanted to transfer us to road assistance or even asked us to return to Calgary airport, which was unreasonable since we were in the middle of the blizzard, then the supervisor tried to advise us on how to change the settings, however, his instructions were incorrect. He then transferred us to GMC, however that call then got interrupted. Although advised that only airport locations exist for ALAMO my partner found an ALAMO location in Lake Louise where we stopped and by luck we were able to get someone who was on his day off. He managed to fix the configuration of the vehicle within minutes. read more

Alamo at the Calgary airport went above and beyond to ensure I had a great experience. My trip ended up getting extended and I needed the rental car for another week however, I was 2 hours outside of Calgary. I tried calling Alamo's 1-800 number and they tried to triple my charges for the second week. I finally booked another week online for way less and called Alamo. Without any hesitation they were able to merge the two bookings preventing me from driving 2hrs each way to resign the contract. Also, when I got to the airport to return my car the on-site manager helped me carry my luggage to the United desk to make it easier on me. I will definitely rent from this location again. read more

Big shout out to Surafel who helped us quickly and easily get our car during the Holiday weekend. Super accommodating, kind and informative. One note is don't forget the airport taxes! We didn't see it mentioned on the rental site so was a huge surprise upon returning the car. For those who aren't familiar, apparently the tax rate for at-airport businesses is way more than the U.S. We were hit with an extra $100 on a 6-day rental. Also to note, if you want chains they're not at the pick-up location, so factor in additional time if you think you'll need (we were in the peak of cold and snow and were fine without). read more

I recently rented a car from Alamo at the Calgary airport. This was the first time I had rented from Alamo. I had reserved a compact car but when the reservation agent saw our luggage, he said that the car would be too small and recommended a larger car. I did not have an issue with this and agreed to a larger car at an additional $9/day. We loaded our belongings into the car with no problem and left the airport. Unfortunately, it was only when I was several miles away that I noticed that there were no power windows and no cruise control. I did not even think to check for these items as they are always standard on every car rental that I have purchased for the past 15 years. We did not have the time to return to the airport and so it was necessary to drive several thousand kilometers without cruise control. The reservation agent was friendly and helpful and probably did not know about these deficiencies. The car was fine and we had no other problems. But not having power windows was annoying and not having the cruise control was annoying, fatiguing, and stressful for the amount of kilometers driven. I wrote to customer service afterwards, explained the situation, and requested a partial credit of the charges due to receiving a downgraded car. I received a phone call from a manager within 2 hours of posting the request on their website. He agreed with me and approved the credit. I also spoke to customer service about another issue and received a response within the hour. I am extremely impressed about the excellent customer service provided by Alamo concerning my Calgary car rental. It is easy to write complaints when things go wrong. Here is the opposite-Customer Service of a large corporation responding quickly and positively to an individual. Good job, Alamo! read more

Was happy with the price and the car. The service was sub par for a big name company. Only person was working at the time (Wed July 22 ~9-10pm) and we had to wait about 20min. Once we received our keys, we got to the lot and noticed some minor injuries to the car and wanted to notify an attendant but no one was around. When we went back in to notify the desk attendant, we were told to just go back out and look for the guy out there. All in all, it took 45-60min from the time we arrived at the desk til we drove out of the lot. I'm happy we weren't in a rush or it was at a late hour/early morning time. The car was not full of gas when I received it, even though it was checked out to me as being full. The car itself, a GMC, had zero engine power and was difficult to drive in the mountains, one of the rear doors was bent and I didn't realize it until after I returned the vehicle. So far so good! They are fast on check in and even faster on check out. I really like that as I am always running late for my flight. Check out is always like under 5 min. If there is a problem there pretty happy to rectify the problem immediately. Rates can be better in Canada.
