What a pleasant surprise it was to discover a regional Italian restaurant smack dab in the middle of suburban Weston. I want one in Reno SO BADLY! When my parents recommended Zona Blu for our anniversary dinner, I wasn't sure what to expect. "Italian" generally doesn't get me going because it makes me think of dishes blanketed in heavy sauces and thick layers of cheese, when in reality, Italian food is often quite light and delicate. Looking over the menu and great photos on Yelp, I immediately realized this was the latter and my excitement peaked! Zona Blu is actually a Sardinian restaurant. Sardinia is the small island off the coast of Italy that "the boot" is kicking. The cuisine bears similarities to that found on the Italian mainland, but being surrounded on all sides by water means they love seafood AND have developed their many things that are uniquely their own. Bottarga, or salt cured mullet roe from Italy, is an ingredient I don't often see on menus, and their Spaghetti a la Bottarga immediately caught my eye. I love simple pasta dishes because there's nothing muddying up the flavors and no way to hide flaws, leaving the pasta and accompanying ingredients to shine bright. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly al dente, the bottarga brought in a beautiful briny ocean flavor, and the light sauce (if you can even call it that) brought it all together. There were a few other dishes that caught my attention including the Al Cartoccio (pasta and seafood baked beneath a layer of homemade pizza dough) and the Fregola (a regional pasta that resembles a small pearl, served studded with seafood and cooked in an aromatic seafood stock), both of which I'd never seen in a restaurant before. The menu also had some bold protein options and the rack of lamb was a contender too. For dessert we enjoyed the house made pistachio semifreddo. Semifreddo means half frozen, so the "ice cream" has a custardy consistency and the fresh pistachio dusted over top added a nice texture. Perfect end to the meal. The server pointed this dessert out, steering us away from the tartufos in favor of the house made option! Lastly the wine... There's a wall of it and MANY are extremely affordable. Our serve steered us toward a great bottle under $50 which we LOVED. Best of all, you can cork your bottle and take what's left with you at the end! Zona Blu deserves every bit of praise the love of the locals that filled the dining room. I wish I had a Zona Blu near me. Absolutely fantastic! read more

Overall 3.5 Location is lovely it's outside it's in the shopping mall but it's pretty and we were able to eat outside which was great because the inside was crowded. The server took a little while to get to us, but not the end of the world. Overall, the service was adequate. The food: Blue salad with spinach, avocado, mozzarella and tomato with Balsamic dressing was very good best part of the meal. The bread was a disgrace to Italy . It is so easy to get great bread and this bread was stale. We ordered the Gnocchetti alla campidanese which is handmaid Sardinian pasta, fresh tomato sauce and sausage pizza. The sauce was lousy. We were greeted by a very friendly gentleman & given our choice of seats. He offered us water while we decided what we wanted to eat. He was very patient & did not rush us. We both ordered the seabass, asparagus (my dining partner sub'd green beans) and mushrooms. The food was brought out quickly and was piping hot. The bass was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. The mushrooms and asparagus were also delicious. The ambiance is casual and they had music playing. We split the Profiteroles for dessert. It was very good, but not $14 good. The menuis printed on a placemat, which is kind of "cheap." The drink menu is extensive and a bit pricey as well. Friday night around 6:30pm First time Came with the family Tons of tables outside but 'they're all reserved' We took an inside table where there was some distancing Workers all wearing masks We ordered the salumi grande with salame and 2 kinds of prosciutto- crudo was better- along with the mozzarella and 2 other cheeses Just that and the bread would've probably been enough BUT The kids got spaghetti with marinara & Bolognese sauce I had the ravioli & she had the branzino The food was incredible- especially the salumi plate and the service was good By the time we left- the place was completely full inside Interestingly- there appeared to be a table or two outside... What a terrific ding experience. We were meeting family at the halfway point between North Palm Beach and Naples and decided on Zona Blu. The reviews were good, we love Italian food and there was outdoor seating. It checked all the boxes so we made a reservation for six of us. Our server was wonderful. The water glass and bread basket always full. Specialty cocktails? Yes, a few of us ordered a crazy pineapple drink and they loved it. All juices are made fresh on premises. We all ordered something different. Pork chops, salmon, chicken parm, lasagna, gnocchi and lobster ravioli. All wonderful. Tasty and the home made pastas were fabulous. Dessert, yes. We had pistachio tartufo, vanilla tartufo and Nutella pizza. Take the time, make a reservation and enjoy a fabulous dinner. The place is packed! The service was friendly and welcoming, the wine selections extensive and reasonable priced, but the food was absolutely amazing! One of the best meals I have had. We sat outside so we did not have to deal with the noise level others have mentioned. Our waiter was amazing he helped make our night perfect. After hearing positive reviews on this place, I decided to come check it out for lunch. We were early, right around 1130, so it was quiet. They have some nice lunch deals, but I opted for the Arresina salad which was Belgian endive tossed with pear, walnut, and gorgonzola served with a Sardinian honey mustard dressing. It was really good!!! My friend and I also split the Margherita pizza which I was quite impressed with. Delicious!! I will definitely be back for dinner as I want to try the pastas and the dessert. This was such a treat for my sister and I! We were in need of a wine and pasta night, and they did not disappoint. The service was prompt and friendly. Our waiter let us sample our wine selections, and brought us a basket of bread. The wine was some of the best I've had. The bread honestly was the least favorite item of the night, but it was worth pulling through for the main course! I got the potato gnocchi, and my sister got a seafood dish. Both were to die for! Here's what you can expect at Zona Blue! When I asked for a cup of hot water WITHOUT lemon, it arrived, WITH lemon. I was trying to avoid the potential human fecal or raw meat and poultry in lemon, but it was not to be. I asked the server what was included in the "prawns and vegetables", he told me it was potatoes and vegetables. Huh??? I moved on to another menu item. When we asked four different staff members for a cup of tea, they told us that they did not serve "tea". When we asked the fifth one, he brought the assortment of teabags. (They did offer complimentary tea after the five requests). When the server did a satisfaction check, he said "If there's a problem, tell me now--NOT AT THE END! (He repeated) NOT AT THE END! I have travelled to and dined in restaurants in more than 60 countries and I have never been warned "NOT AT THE END!" When the salad came, the fresh pear was devoid of sweetness--nowhere near sweet! I sent it back. My meal was bread and hot water! Before you go to Zona Blue, make sure that you are not hungry, prepare to endure servers who can neither listen nor read the menu, and best of all, prepare for the "NOT AT THE END" double warning when the server checks to see if you need "anything else"! read more

Wow that was a great meal! We got the zone blue salad, a calamari carpaccio and Spaghetti al Cartoccio, a seafood a pasta covered with thin crust pizza dough. It all hit the spot! We also had a terrific server, Daniel who was great with his recommendations and our baby. The man serving the water was terrific as well and never let my glass run empty. Returned for another fabulous dinner. The special of the evening was roasted rack of lamb nestled in spinach sauteed with garlic. The lamb was cooked to perfection, and it perfectly complemented the spinach that it was served with. As with our previous visit, the staff was so accommodating and always ready to please the customers. They are so attentive, and we never had to get their attention to ask for anything. This is truly an inviting and pleasant experience for a restaurant. The food is outstanding, and the service is equally great. I have a hard time understanding some of the bad reviews because the friends with whom I visited the restaurant frequently dine there and never have a complaint about the food or the service. I'm super bummed out about this review. So me an my husband made reservations for a table for four. And when we got there on time, we had to wait 25 minutes or more to be seated. And it was just us waiting, while there was an outside table that seated 4 was available. The hostess had no idea that table was even available. Service was the worst. The head waiter took his time to come over to our table, he actually took on orders to other tables that came before us and also was kinder to them. He didn't ask us if we wanted more wine after we finished a bottle (the bottle serves about three glasses). Mind you. I work in the service industry. I've dined in reputable 5star restaurants and grew up on a please and thank you bedside manner upbringing and to see his behavior towards my family I can't seem to understand how someone like that be in a service job. We tipped accordingly to the experience. The food runners were actually kinder and more approachable. The food, however was fantastic. It's quite disappointing that the structure of a restaurant is crumbling while they have amazing chefs producing amazing plates on staff. read more
