They've tweaked the program a little bit, but for the better IMO. It is more organized but instead…read moreof 2, 4 or 6 mile options there is only the option to do either 3 or 6 miles. The group meets inside Nike as usual, but now runs a few blocks down to Jessie Square for some warm up drills. The group is divided into about 3 sub groups, depending on your expected pace or mins/mile. There will always be at least 3 pacers for each group; 1 to lead the pack throughout the route, 1 in the middle to maintain average expected speed and 1 in the back so no one gets left behind. The routes still vary weekly, some days will have more flats than normal but if you're running 6 miles, you will for sure hit some fatty SF hills and/or stairs! ALSO *new* to the program is the Speed Run on Tuesdays held at Kezar Stadium. They're only 2 weeks into the new program, but I went yesterday and it was pretty intense but awesome. This training session is really different because it focuses on speed so there'll be a lot of intervals that'll definitely push you past your limits to become stronger and faster! Nike is getting really big with implementing these group runs not only in SF, but in major cities throughout the country. So take advantage of these great, and FREE opportunities!

And they even let you take the latest Nike running shoes out for a test run. The run club meets every Wednesday at 6:30 PM. The route takes you to a hilly course that will make your legs scream. The club is a good fit for first time runner or a seasoned runner. Join the club and start burning the calories.

Since this was the closest race to where I was staying, a 5 minute drive, I decided to sign up. The Pros: -Race shirt with a cool design -2 distances to choose from 5k & 10k -Beautiful, flat, course through Shoreline Park -Easy & FREE parking, plenty of volunteers directing the flow of traffic -Family, kid and stroller friendly -LOTS of happy volunteers before, during, and after the race -Great post-race snacks, the hot soup was greatly appreciated on such a cold morning -GREAT CAUSE!! The Cons: -No mile markers along the course -No chip timing (only gun/clock time) -Not all volunteers knew what was going on -No pre-race bib/packet pickup (must pickup race morning) -Extra waiver to sign at race (there was a bit of a line for this) -Actual course distance was too short (5k was closer to 3mi and 10k was closer to 6mi) While I really enjoyed running this beautiful race for such a great cause, I was disappointed to learn I didn't actually run the full 10k, but in reality, closer to 6 miles, which is roughly 1/4 mile short of what I thought I ran (thinking that my per mile pace was much faster than it really was). Also wish it was better organized, that all volunteers were on the same page at the event, and that bib pickup and waiver signing could have been done before race day. I probably would have run this event again the following year, but I don't believe it was held since I didn't hear or see any publicity about this event.

I did enjoy running through San Jose, a good way to see the city. They were very strict with the corral starts. This was my first time doing this race, so I'm guessing the rain probably limited the crowds lining the streets. I did enjoy the 8K distance, something different. Finishing on Santana Row was cool as you could smell breakfast cooking as the restaurants were opening. The shuttles back were great, well organized, comfortable, and quick. I can see why this event is so popular!!

Registration: Super…read moreeasy. I got the $39 opening special. Email updates get a little tedious after a while and I ended up getting 2 or 3 of the same thing in the 2 weeks before the event. Packet Pick up: I really wish they had day of pick up as I live over an hours drive away and had to make the trek to San Jose twice in one weekend. That said it was really easy to get my packet, you just needed to know your bib number and they check it against your name. The TShirts are pretty cool and something I will actually wear. Course: Nice and flat. Nice addition to have the different ''miles'' (Veteran / Mariachi). The mile markers were not completely accurate though (yup.. the serious Runner in me notices these things). Mile 2 was actually 1.1mi and mile 3 was just 0.9mi. The event started right on time as planned and without any hitches however I do think that some kind of enforcement of the waves has to be done. Upon coming to the start line there was no one checking bibs. I was put in wave 1 for my sub 8 min mile pace and standing at the start with about a dozen people deep in front of me I noticed a lot of the people around me were wearing bibs marked waves 2, 3 and even 4. Once we started it was also made clear that some people placed in wave 1 really should not have been there. I had to zig zag around people that were not going the correct pace for the wave. Had I been out to PR I would have been really pissed off. Post Race: I didn't experience the ''hearding'' that people had mentioned in previous years but I guess that could have been down to the fact I was one of the first 90 people to finish. There was some walk to the end to get our bibs but nothing major. The post race food was really lame and looking at the pictures from previous years I was expecting to get more than what I did - a bottle of Water, Apple and some Fruit chews. NO BANANA! Really? That gives me the sads. It's common knowledge that Runners eat Banana's. The occasional Orange slice, yes. Apples No. Unless they're in some form of Pastry (Mmmm, Carbs). The medal is also pretty cool, it can be removed from the lanyard and used as a bottle opener and overall I am glad I can now mark this event off of my Running Bucket List but I doubt I will do it again. Way too far to come for what it is. Additional: This event is 1 or 3 of the ''Run the Bay'' series challenge where if you complete all 3 events you get an additional medal.Other 2 events are the Across The Bay (12k or 5k) in San Francisco and Let's Go 510 in Berkeley. Personal shyt: Time: 34:54 / 6:58 min mile. I intended to do a moderate 45:00 / 9 min mile and for the first half mile I was well on track but then some dude with a stroller ran past me. That's never happened to me before and I didn't like it (I now know how my poor husband feels. lol). So I had to speed up to my comfortable ''Aaah yeah, It's on!'' pace. Competitive much? Place: 90th out of 5,000+ and 18th Female. BOOM! -Crazy Runner Girl.

Running along the wide gravel pathways on a Wednesday afternoon was invigorating, and the endless…read moreviews of nature therapeutic. A great opportunity for birdwatching too. I encountered many species, including geese grazing in the grassy fields and adorable ducks floating in the water. To add to the beautiful and serene setting, visitors can find art in the park as well (wind wave, pole fields, and chevrons), nothing too fancy but interesting enough, especially walking among the artworks and reading about them on the information boards posted along the trail. The small parking lot near Byxbee Park was full, but I had no problem finding street parking down the road on Embarcadero. There was also a public restroom available for convenience. Certainly a great place to get your steps in while appreciating the lovely scenery.

What a way to start the day! The look is towards the Golden Gate Bridge from the west. You can also check out the USS San Francisco Memorial. This is sort of the nexus between the Coastal and Lands End Trails respectively. Great views. You will find your 5G will not work out here as well. Get loaded up on the data you need is you get out in some of these beautiful trails. I always kick myself when I start a podcast when I am mid-way from Point Lobos to the Overlook. Not your average morning walk. I love it.

Touch the southern most part of San Francisco Bay…read more Walking around the wetlands is a treat. The work on the nearby Malard Duck Slough is now complete. I enjoy checking out the many birds visiting the refuge. Black necked Stilts, American Avocets, herons and egrets are usually plentiful. I remember seeing a group of white pelicans in the water near the Don Edwards Educational Center. Magical. I highly recommend this area for a hike and bird watching. It can get a bit blustery, so be sure to dress for the weather.
