Took the kids here for a little adventure during inclement weather. They had a blast. First things first. I recommend doing the waiver online. You'll have to sign again at the register, but it will save you a bunch of time when you arrive. Ok...for our experience. It can feel a little overwhelming when you first arrive if you haven't been there before. Having people walk in, with their own helmets, acting like they own the place will have anyone unsure where they should go or do when they first arrive. The staff make it feel very welcoming and friendly. After I finished check-in, I felt like the people with their own helmet. Tyrez helped me at check-in. He was patient, professional and friendly. When I say patient, I mean PATIENT! I had four kids with me and when it came to head covers alone, he got everyone what they needed even though I had to prompt the kids multiple times to come to a decision. We got there, but it was rough and Tyrez was amazing throughout! He even explained everything to me so that I wouldn't be caught off guard by anything and wouldn't end up frustrated...or at least that is how it felt. Next, know this. When they are running adult races, it's loud in the track area. Because I work safety, I have my watch set to alarm me when the sound exceeds the OSHA permissible exposure limit. It went off a lot. So, I measured the sound. It can get above 100 decibels. That's loud. Not as loud as a rock concert or fire truck siren, but it will make it difficult to have a conversation. You may want to consider ear plugs...or ear buds with noise canceling. The races are run very efficiently and they alternate between youth and adult groups. One safety feature the do great is that they are never on the track, together, at the same time. Safety seemed like it was well managed. When impacts happen, they throttle down the carts, to ensure everything is safe. One note though...and I see this as a huge positive...they let you RACE! Yes, they pay attention and focus on safety, but they don't scold or stop because of a little inadvertent contact. I was truly impressed by the balance they maintain there. In my group of four, two were a little scared and didn't race all the races we purchased (I bought the SpeedPass for each and it seems like a really good package for first timers), but they were amazing at helping me re-assign them to the others in our group. Luis helped me there and again, he was patient with me and helped ensure we got everything transferred correctly. He also answered all 5,000 of my questions throughout our visit. No, not really 5,000, but there were a lot. He was amazing! If I had any criticism at all, it would be for the game area. Many of their games weren't working because of a network error. It was disappointing for me, but it hit the kids hard. They should have someone dedicated to that area as it was never empty while we were there. I would imagine that having all working correctly would result in increased revenue. Overall, we had an amazing adventure there today and Tyrez and Luis were part of the reason why. Their track team was the other part...I just wasn't able to get their names. If you're looking for a new adventure, this is an amazing way to spend a Saturday!!! read more

Eh. Good for corporate team building and releasing some steam. Bonus point for stats printouts and the theoretical availability of beer (no one was manning the bar/snacks area the day I went). Deducted points for: 1) Slow carts (I get it. People already can't drive...safety issue). 2) The staff can and will remotely limit your motor power at various moments as you race. 3) The staff seems to discourage all-out battles for position and passing. Most people don't let faster drivers pass (either ignorantly or intentionally). The staff doesn't flag them to yield to us as they said they would. So I can be the fastest driver out there, following true race lines, and capable of the best times IF I were on a solo time trial...but in their reality end up near last place getting stuck behind the commuter types crawling along for a scenic ride. When I do get fed up and pass aggressively I get flagged by the staff. Lol. So I pretty much always get ranked poorly here. Those that hog the lane and don't know how to race rule the day. Why would any motorsport type come here? 4) Their waiver you have to sign is hilarious. Everything you do is your fault. Maim yourself, damage the walls, etc. and you're liable and can be forced to pay for it. read more

With Malibu Grand Prix long gone, as far as I know the go karting options are pretty limited on the peninsula. I came here because I was stuck around the SFO area and it was this or see a movie. I got the $60ish dollar 2-race package and I guess Sunday afternoon isn't a busy time as my friend and I both got into a race in about 30 minutes, then another about 30-40 minutes after that. I can't speak to the food or drinks as we didn't buy any, but in my experience amusement parks, bowling alleys, miniature golf, and arcades always just sell reheated frozen food. So maybe it's passable, maybe it's just "you won't get food poisoning" quality. I won't be the one to find out. The racing itself seems pretty well organized. Probably because there weren't many people there after 5 pm on a Sunday it was pretty relaxed. The cars go fast enough to have fun but not fast enough to get into big trouble. And the engines aren't powerful enough to spin the wheels, so picking the right line and carrying speed through corners is the optimum strategy. My times were around 31 seconds which felt quick, but then I saw the leaderboard is like 27 seconds and I just can't see how I can shave 15% off my time. Additionally, the rules read a lot more strict than the actual enforcement. Especially in our second race we had a full grid and there were people spinning each other out, banging into each other, diving for the inside line on a corner and both crashing. Nobody got black flagged. The Marshalls were on it dialing down the power or turning it off when they needed to get someone straightened out though. Overall it was reasonably fun. South City isn't exactly a hub of entertainment options so if you're bored and it's not busy and you're not hungry it's a decent way to kill an hour or two. They have a pretty big parking lot and take credit cards. read more

Came here for a date night, and it took 30 minutes at check in. It wasn't busy at all, and the lady in the front had trouble with the system. She also didn't explain how getting our food, getting called for racing, etc worked. All the arcade game prizes were empty! And the system for the card reader would always have to reconnect to wifi. It took the food 40 minutes since "they were still working on food for a party". Mind you there's no one here except a kids party. They also got our order completely wrong! I'm no stranger to karting and not a stranger to K1 as well, as I've been to several locations across California. This K1 Speed is quite close to the city as well as SFO, so it should be a popular destination for teambuilding events for SF's companies. We came on a Wednesday evening for a 2 race for $50 Wednesday deal. We thought we would have to wait a while but we got scheduled for a race within 15 minutes. The race itself was alright, probably 10 karts on the grid so a bit of traffic but not many stoppages and I felt the karts ran pretty well compared to other K1 locations. I recently came here for a birthday party, and this place is a hectic mess with questionable (nonexistent) safety protocols! We were told to arrive early to attend the safety training, but there was none. Most of us in the group including myself have never been go karting before, so we were very confused about everything. Turns out I didn't even wear my helmet correctly until my last race! I also saw multiple crashes and injuries during my visit. After my races, my neck was in pain for several days! There's only one track that you can race, so I was honestly pretty bored of it by my third and final race. The equipment was dirty, and some of the go karts were also in bad condition. Since I was here for a birthday party, we were told we would get a private room. But turns out you don't get access to a room until after your races, which was inconvenient because we had no idea where to put our belongings/supplies. The private rooms are also fully booked to the point that you likely will wait quite a bit after your races before being allowed in and then will get forced out pretty quickly as well. Overall, I had fun catching up with friends here but wouldn't come back just for the go karting. read more

I need to raise a very serious concern about cleanliness at K1 Speed. Every time I take my kids here, we end up getting bitten by bugs. This is not a one-time incident - it has happened repeatedly. Our home is clean and has no bug issues. But after visiting K1, not only do we get bitten, it feels like we bring bugs back home with us. That forces us to do deep cleaning and disinfection every time, which is extremely frustrating and time-consuming. I strongly suspect the bugs are coming from the sofas in the waiting area. This is not just inconvenient - it is a public health risk. In an environment like this, families could carry bugs back to their homes, and children might then bring them to schools, causing further spread and infestation. We had a lot of fun and would come again. They have free parking and a snack bar available. They also have rooms you can rent for small parties. I wasn't able to ride the kart because of a major problem I noticed: the wait time. The wait time is terrible, and they need to do something about it. Whatever they are doing now, they need to stop. And do something new It was my first time here. We arrived at 4:43, and when we got there the place was almost completely empty. We bought two adult races and one junior race, totaling $193, which I don't think is worth it at all. The cashier told us the junior race would be about a one-hour wait and the adult race would be about a 30-40 minute wait. They also said we would ride before the next junior race and that they would call our names. We waited about 50 minutes, and somehow 3-4 races finished, with people being called in before us even though they arrived after us. When they called the adult racers, a family who had been in front of us when we bought the races got called, but we didn't. After that race ended, the junior racers were called, but our junior racer wasn't included. That's when we realized we were supposed to be in the previous race, according to what the cashier had told us. We asked how much longer it would be, and they said another 20 minutes. We waited again--this time about 40 minutes--and still not a single one of our names was called. We asked yet again how much longer it would be, and the employee said he honestly didn't know and that people sometimes wait up to 8 hours, which I find very hard to believe. At that point, we were fed up and asked for a refund and left. In my opinion, waiting over 2 hours for maybe a 30-minute experience is not worth it. One employee even completely ignored me when I asked about the wait time--he looked at me and then ignored me. There is also nothing to do while waiting. You could play the crappy arcade games and that will only keep you entertained for 20-30 minutes, plus they cost an extra $15 or more. The track also seemed small, and the food is expensive for low-quality frozen food. read more

K1 Speed has electric gokarts that go 35mph+ for Adult Karts and Junior Karts that are 20mph+ for some serious gokarting. Learn the racing line ahead of time and put the pedal to the metal. We came here early on New Years and had a great racing experience. No line, just a few racers and a relaxed check in. The karts and track were well maintained. If you head here later in the day, it gets super crowded and checkin will take a long time. Lastly, whatever you do, do NOT order food or arcades. The food is bad, like reheating a frozen chicken tender and burning it kind of bad. Took 2 hours to get burnt chicken tenders, lol. The arcades are very limited, and several were not functioning, so the game would take your money but not let you play. Talking to management took awhile to get it right, and to their credit, they handled it well. Overall, excellent racing experience with friendly and helpful staff. Go early, patience is a virtue and have a great time. read more

We had our son's 8 year old birthday here on 4/4. Him and his friends had a great time. They were prepared for our party and great when the kids were racing. Everyone ran to a crash site and showed concern. The final price turned out to be more than what was originally said but the party went great so I have no complaints. Completely disorganized and poorly run. The staff is relatively nice, though some employees seem more engaged in performing their duties than others. We came in for my birthday and were consistently told the wrong information about when our race would be- initially scheduled for 7:30p turned into finally getting our first race at 9:15. The waiting is compounded by the arcade area where half of the machines are broken and a bar/restaurant area with no one staffing the counter. The staff was nowhere to be found most of the time, and when our party would ask when our race was, "10 more minutes" was always the answer. We asked for a refund for the 2nd race we did not use and were told that there was no manager available to process a refund and to call the corporate office. No manager on duty on a weekend? The only thing we were offered after a 5 hour wait was an additional free race no one wanted to use because our experience was so awful. read more

We paid about $70 each for 2 races, the registration (about $8 and lasts a year), and a T-shirt (you can also choose a baseball cap or a $10 arcade card). Booked walk-in races for my son and his best friend to celebrate his 15th birthday. I booked the package with two races, the t-shirt and drivers license. I added on the helmet camera for both kids, both races. Unfortunately, they didn't get the camera on their first race. They were very disappointed. The guy at the front desk, while friendly, said it was his mistake, and they could have the camera for their second. But that's not what I paid the additional $24 for. There was nothing he could do about it, other than put a note in their accounts about free use of a camera next visit. Then I was told one only had one race. I showed them my receipt for two races each. Maybe it was an off day? I doubt we will come back. We arrived at 12pm and we're told they couldn't race until 2:30. They thankfully called them to the track at 1:40. It was so not worth the $171 and change that I paid. I don't recommend K1 Speed. The boys had fun, but it wasn't worth the money. read more

We came for a corporate event and it honestly was a pretty decent experience. There were couple groups racing along side us and the workers were able to manage us to race almost one after the other. The downside is that many of the machines and table top games were broken. On top of that, we wanted a print out of the race history but the print is broken. The food was totally gross. The highly processed sliders were loaded with mayonnaise and the chicken tenders were completely burned. Maybe this is why there wasn't anybody to assist in the party room. INobody even came to check on us, not even one time. I had to go back to the front counter multiple times, to get the items we purchased in the party package. First for the arcade cards and then for the drink tickets. Nothing was organized. I paid for everything in advance and included a tip, which I totally regret doing. We had to go out to eat after we left because everyone was hungry. Save yourself a ton of money, embarrassment, and frustration and just come for the GoCart Racing. The party is a total waste of time and money. The GoCart racing is super fun and the young people who work there are polite and try to be helpful. This is why I gave 2 stars. read more

WHEN: Thursday @2pm It was a team outing of 12 in early December on a weekday afternoon when the place wasn't too busy. There was plenty of free parking in their lot. Before arriving you should have already signed a waiver form (to save time) and sign in with an account so they know who you are to print out your driving results after. Here are the prices: 1 Lap - $25.95 2 Laps - $46.95 3 Laps - $59.95 We signed up for 3 laps. Each person is given a helmet liner that makes you look like a ninja--brand new you can take home after. You sign another doc upon receiving and you wait until they call your group to gear up (helmet) and assign you your kart. I'm 4'11" which barely passed the adult height min requirement (4'10") so I was able to shameless request a booster seat. Damon was super helpful and progressional who made me feel super safe with the seat belt. It was nice to have a full track with just your co-workers even, and the race seemed to have lasted about 10 minutes. After that they give you a 10 min break (depends on how many groups are racing after you), and we start round 2 of racing. And again for the 3rd lap. In between rounds they print out your stats which seemed pretty cool! There was a couple of times where the race had to slow down and stop if a kart wasn't functioning well (not going fast as it should). I had fun the first round, but after the second I was done. It just wasn't my thing, so I skipped the 3rd and just hung out in the commons area where there is food for purchase. After that they actually had trophies for our group who came in first, second and third. All in all I felt it was a nice outing with co workers I have never seen before due to the pandemic. Everyone was required to wear a mask except when you have your helmet and helmet liner on. I highly recommend coming on a weekday when it's less busy. read more

I felt as though the staff was not on duty. Half of the time they were not paying attention!! Update: Staff was friendly and very helpful. However the company can use help with their refund policies. To request for a refund. You have to make a claim to a different department via email only. And then to get your money back, they send you a link to another company in the United Kingdom. This can take weeks. read more

I'd like to meet the hiring staff of this place. Absolutely no sense of urgency when it comes to anything. This INCLUDES injuries or malfunctions. Was here today and saw a man with a car that wouldn't even get off the parking spot. Employee left him there and when the customer finally yelled to come help, employee stared at him blankly and took his time to check other things THEN went to tend to the man. Immediately following this i watched a kid get wrecked into a corner, other car rode up on top of his car and landed on his arm (for a second the arm looked broken, however it wasn't). Both employees watched the whole thing happen then after turning all cars off with the remote, they took their time to walk over to the kid and actually stopped away from him to talk about something. This sense of urgency needa to be changed ESPECIALLY when it appears as if an injury has occurred. read more

This place is going to run out of business soon. I can't believe they only have 1 person working at the register on a Saturday afternoon, taking 15-20 minutes with each customer. We were 3rd in line but it was over 30 minutes of waiting in line, just to be told the next available race is a 1.5 - 3 hour wait. Wtf?? Put a sign out or something with the projected wait times! Apparently , it took so long for us because the customers in front were told the same thing and spent time arguing and complaining about it, they got free future rides but the poor kids, who had been waiting almost 30 min in line, couldn't race today. We spared the people behind us in line a longer wait, as everyone was getting irritated that there was only one guy working and taking forever, just to turn people away. They lost a lot of business today. Won't be back. There's other better-run gokarting places in the bay. read more

Tried coming here 3 times over the span of 5 days. The first two times they said we would be waiting for over 2 hours at least, and I've been here many many times before and I know that when they say 2 hours they really mean longer than that. I've had to wait over 4 hours just to get 1 race one time. So anyways, we came to K1 earlier tonight around half an hour before their supposed closing time of 10 pm, thinking we could finally race without having to wait for several hours. So we get there, and they tell us their closed. Meanwhile, there's still people racing on the track, and the doors are wide open, no indication they are closed whatsoever. The staff just wanted to leave early, and couldn't be bothered to run one more 10 minute race. I miss when the staff there actually cared about customers. read more

I recently went back to spend one of my bulk purchase credits (I bought ten) I bought them with a very clear promise of "It will never expire" and sure enough they are gone... I got the usual "Contact head office" and like last time.. Nada, Nothing, Zilch, Zero... because I am now out of pocket 4 races from the Party that they never refunded\Credited (previous review) and now 6+ races of credit that evaporated... Based on the other reviews, we got here right when they opened today (Saturday) morning at 10am. Our experience did not match the other reviews at all. We brought two boys (8+9) for their first time. The person working the front was super nice and patient and explained the process to us. We ended up paying for three junior races for each of the boys. There were three people working the race track- all three were super nice, friendly, and helpful (not to mention patient). They explained the process and safety rules to the boys and they went on their first race. They alternated between adult and junior races. We were done with all three of our races by 11:15am and the boys had a blast. It was pricey, but a really cool experience. Think it's great that they offer junior races so the boys could get comfortable racing around other kids. Can't wait to come back! read more
