After multiple exchanges, i dropped it off and have been emailing and sending messages asking for resolution since last summer, but have had zero response. The woman at the front has very poor English skills, and the communication between her and the staff behind the desk is severely lacking--likely the reason for this mistake. I really don't understand what all the fuss is about with the ratings here. I am a consistent and regular user of the service. It is what it is. A dry cleaner that does a good job. It's probably true that the staff are not as cheerful as they could be but I have found the managers to be responsive in solving problems as best as any such service would be. They continue to operate during these challenging times. And if the continued presence of customers is any indication that they do good work at an affordable price, the proof is in the pudding. read more

SEVEN OF THEM had stains that, in the past, would have been properly removed before drying the garments. 7 garments, THAT ARE NOT CHEAP, the stains were not removed, whats worse is that they were likely dried with stains on them rendering them irremovable/permanent. Additionally, my ONE OF A KIND WOOL JACKET WAS CLEARLY WASHED AND DRIED ON HIGH HEAT! YOU PEOPLE ARE SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING. "PROFESSIONAL DRY CLEANING" is not what they do. Dropped of 2 uniform shirts, one long sleeve one short sleeve. I showed the Zips gentlemen where I had two small stains on the short sleeve shirt up around the left pocket area that I was unable to get out at home. He advised me that they have a special product and process to get out those types of stains and that they would be taken care of. I went back to this particular zips later that afternoon after 5 and the line was all the way down the hallway because only two people were working the front counter and one of them a tall thin middle eastern man was being very rude to the customers and to his co worker a short older woman. When it was my turn the woman waited on me and when I received my shirts I I went to check the short sleeve shirt with the stains and the woman yells "Next in Line" While I'm trying to explain to her my situation of why the stains were not addressed. She just looked at me and took the other customer. I know they get busy at that time of day but to rush you around with attitude and not address the customers concerns is unacceptable and unprofessional. NEVER AGAIN!! read more

zips mixed my shirt up with someone else's shirt. I asked if I could look and they said no , they had a system. a week later I went back and asked if they found my shirt. no. did you look? No. never got I am sorry and they are doing nothing. it was a brand new shirt for spring and spring is going by. They said in 30 days I can make a claim but gave me a date that is more than 30 days and I can just imagine how slow that will be . the location and price are very seductive but do not take anything there you care about. I only chose one star because 0 wasn't an option. I wouldn't recommend cleaning any expensive, embroidered, or colored items here. They suck. Aside from basically laughing as I told them they messed up MULTIPLE EXPENSIVE garments in cleaning, this is by far THE worst job they've ever done. This wasn't my first trip here, and they've done enough for everyday clothes to have us return. So we decided before our trip, to try some more expensive clothes, and the results were worse than the jobs they do with our normal clothes. After reading reviews, it's almost as if they deliberately target more expensive items to mess up, try to reimburse you less than what it's worth, and keep the clothes!!!!!!!! It's discouraging to go back and try to get a resolution after feeling like being laughed at on the phone. Also, based on not only other reviews, but their terrible customer service and "It's the customers fault," attitude, I'd rather save my peace of mind than argue about $800 in some of my FAVORITE clothes being damaged in 1 dry cleaning session. I brought a new pair of Uggs pajamas to Zips with the specific instructions to raise each pant leg hem by 2 inches. When I picked them up at Zips, there was a significant difference in the leg length, about 1.5 difference. I took the pants back and the alterations person said she could fix it and would make both pant legs the same length. Two weeks later I picked up the pants and the length seemed to be about the same with both legs. After washing the pants, the difference in length was there again. It seems as if the alterations person stretched the shorter leg to make both legs equal. There seemed to be absolutely no difference in the stitching, etc. Nothing in terms of an alternation fix had actually been done. After contacting the zips.com claims address and then returning to speak to the Zips manager at the store as the email correspondence indicated, I was told there was nothing they could do since I washed the pants after pickup and)or 30 days had elapsed from the first alteration date. $100 pajamas and the Zips charge for alterations were all on me. I was also treated poorly, dismissed and I can't even count the number of eyerolls I received from the Zips manager. Please do not bring your alterations to Zips. They do not stand behind their work and if there are any issues, Zips will not take ownership or compensate for the damage to your garments. read more

I specifically asked that the hem at the bottom of the pants be pulled up a few inches and she completely discarded the original hem and left a botchy seam at bottom. The pants look so incomplete. I used the Van Ness Zips uneventfully for a little over a year: enjoying the efficiency, value, and discount promotions. I also admired what appears to be a commitment to hiring a diverse staff: some with possible deficits. This is my bad a CAVEAT EMPTOR for the rest of you. Use your phone to photograph every cleaners ticket, and take the time to cross check every pick-up, no matter how large! Because the cleaners is miles away, and I have a closet full of go-to shirts and jeans, typically I'd drop off dozens of items every 6+ weeks, and trust their system of scanning bundles to ensure that I got all of my items back. One day, a staff member notes that I had a few uncollected tickets for stuff they couldn't find. With their efficient system, I doubted that so many missed scans were likely. But I agreed to check at home, because I hadn't been aware that stuff was missing. Long story short, I am missing several shirts. Zips staff gave me claim forms with the ticket numbers, but asked me to provide a detailed list describing each item: brands, colors, sizes, etc. I gave as much info as possible. Then came the stall and defense. "The ticket numbers are wrong... Someone must have picked up your stuff... We'll show you transactions our videotapes... We'll search lost and found and get back to you." Two months later, crickets from the store and Corporate. I'd at least like the satisfaction of looking through lost and found. If you do continue to use Zips, don't let your guard down, and hold them accountable. I've moved on: paying more and being more careful at a more convenient local dry cleaner. read more

Do not take any clothing items you actually care about here. They are literally washing your clothes with other clothes. Your clothes will fade, shrink, and definitely won't look starched. If I wanted my clothes washed, I would've washed them!!! Wth! I came to receive a professional dry cleaning experience.. not for you to wash, fade and shrink my clothes. I know how to wash better than these people. Yeah it's cheap, but not worth it when it comes to your better pieces. I literally gave them a beautiful thick 100% silk scarf, and these people Washed it , and it shrunk and its consistency has changed dramatically. Like how do you do that?!??!? That's just one out of the many faded, un-starched, over washed, shrunk items ive received over the years, and I'm just now noticing that it's because they're washing your sht* without the care or delicacy that a professional dry cleaning service provides. They just do not do a good job. I'm finally fed up, and the price can no longer suffice for this awful service. One thing I can say is that most of the staff are very nice and willing to help, I've always had good customer service for the most part, so they're not the reason for this review. Stains, even minor, will not be removed by dry cleaning. Ive gottwn in the habit of washing my stuff first and then bringing them in for dry cleaning afterwards. My biggest issue, though perhaps minor, is the pressing. I prefer one crease. Multiple times, ive gotten my pants back and it looks like multiple tributaires and a delta. ONE CREASE, PLEASE. I brought my comforter and pillow cases here to be cleaned. I called to inquire about the price, and the staff member who answered the phone seemed less than pleased to have to look up that information. Nevertheless, they were cheaper than some other places in the area so I decided to give them a shot. Since I was a first time customer I had to provide the cashier a bunch of my personal information. In return I was given a tag to hang on my keyring (similar to a supermarket bonus/savings club keyring tag), and told that I must have it in order to pick up my order. If I did not have it, I was told, I would be required to verify my identity. Okay with the security protocols.... I did like that I received an email notifying me when my order was ready for pick-up. I picked it up without a problem (and without having to scan my key tag or provide DNA sample and retinal scan to verify that I was who I said I was), only to find that my comforter had been ripped during the cleaning process. I emailed and called the store to notify them, and was told to bring it back for repair. The repairs were made in about a week, and again, I did not need my key tag to pick up my order. While I appreciate them repairing the item free of charge, the fact that it was damaged at all is cause for concern. It's a fairly new comforter, and now I have to scan the entire thing and hope I don't find any additional tears or damage. After this experience, I would never trust this location with my more fragile and expensive garments. Additionally, the parking situation is a nightmare. Even though Zips offers complimentary parking in the back of the shop, it can get really chaotic, with so much competing traffic all vying for priority and parking spaces in that tiny alleyway. I'd rather avoid that hassle and take my business elsewhere. read more

I've tried them at least 4 times now because of the affordability and each and every time they failed to get the simplest things right, like actually spot cleaning even when I ask them to (even when they 'mark' the spot with tape) or getting out ordinary underarm odor, and even when I have to return the item to have them do the cleaning a second time. Staff are very friendly but I can't imagine this place being useful for any other reason than the price. My wool sweaters come back with a weird somewhat 'slick' feel to the fabric as if the chemicals are still there. And the primary seamstress there is very intimidating. She doesn't make eye contact, she is brusque to the point of being rude, and totally off-putting. I hate going to her. Never again. read more

Classic you get what you pay for. They do a solid job for cleaning but I wouldn't give them anything special or expensive because sometimes the attention to detail isn't good. They messed up buttons on a coat as well as the finish on a zipper. Most disappointing is they recently a lost a new blouse of mine. I wore it once! Their process for lost and found is also terrible. I had to fill out the same form twice because they misplaced the first one, and their log book is just a binder of a bunch of crumbled up forms. That system should be digital. Customers shouldn't have to watch you go through a stack of papers to find their form. The customer service ranges. The younger staff members are so polite and sweet. The older ones (specifically those that were "helping" me find my lost item) couldn't care less. Basically only give them your simple, every day stuff. Okay, so hubs and I have been here twice in recent memory, both times for dry cleaning. Honestly, based on the vibe inside the store, the horror stories aren't surprising, but I'm not taking alterations here, so we're good. I've had my favorite work blazer dry cleaned and the stains did in fact get removed, and when my husband got his suit cleaned after our wedding (I cried all over it and my makeup left some gnarly stains) it came back looking nice and fresh. All this for roughly $10, which is dang hard to beat. Is the service fast and friendly? Honestly, no. Do I think it's fair to expect that when these folks work long hours for low pay...also no. So I will keep coming back for the odd stain removal dry cleaning job, and look elsewhere for help with big piles of stuff and with alterations. I would give this place zero stars if I could! About a week ago, I took in 8 garments in for dry-cleaning, plus a scarf that needed mending/alteration for a small rip. They had no chalks to mark any stains. Came back on the scheduled day for pickup, and 3 out of 8 garments had to go back for redo. One sweater had a massive stain in the front - like almost 4 to 5 inches long (you would have to be blind to miss it), and it was still there. Another cashmere scarf had coffee stains on it, and the stains were still there. The third was a new coat I bought on sale and brought in right away for cleaning still with tags on it, and Zips had lint and hair all over it! Both times the people I dealt with were borderline rude - they were impatient, and could not care less about any of my concerns. Today, I went back to pick up the 3 redo items, as well as the alteration for the scarf, and things got even worse, if that was possible. Turns out the alteration was never done - big fat nada! Moreover, out of 3 redo's, they lost one item - my cashmere scarf has disappeared, and is now considered lost. The manager spoke to me, and apparently I have to wait 30 days to see if they can get their act together and actually find it. The redo coat is now lint free and clean, but I got home and noticed the top button is now loose and they had re-attached it with a safety pin, instead of sewing it back in. Only one of the redo items, the sweater that had the big stain, was done properly and is now fine. Now i have to (1) wait for them to find my lost cashmere scarf and if not, deal with a claim process, (2) sew the coat button on myself, because I don't trust them with getting anything done, and (3) find a reliable professional place to get my alteration/mending completed. This seems to be a great place to take your clothes in, if you are ok with utterly horrible and incompetent service. I go to the Zips on Rockville Pike in MD sometimes and that location is well run, but this place is terrible. read more

Zips is the fast food of dry cleaning. Pretty much every garment costs $1.85 to be cleaned, and you get a little membership card to put on your key chain for faster service. Their dry cleaning is pretty standard, but I really must emphasize that you point out any spots or stains on your garment. There's a good chance they won't notice a stain unless you point it out to them. They usually have an order completed within a day or two, and there is plenty of customer parking in the rear. They only take cash and you have to pre-pay, but there is an ATM on the premises. If you're like me and wait until you have absolutely nothing to wear before visiting the dry cleaners, I would suggest Zips. read more

When I went in to pick it up, the jumpsuit could not be located. To my surprise, there was also no clear system in place for tracking it down. I waited in the cleaners for more than hour, for thirty or more of those minutes, I was unaware that the garment was lost. Needless to say, I am very disappointed with the level of service and the carelessness of the employees in handling garments. When I came in on Tuesday, a worker placed a garment for me to take home on the rack that was not mine. I am extremely disappointed about the service at zips. I took 2 new down feather jacket to be washed (December 2022 right before Christmas ). I purchased this two "66 north" down jackets(high end jackets) in Iceland. When I went to to pick up both jackets after they were dry cleaned, they were ruined by this company. Both jackets had black stains all over the place and when I complained I was encouraged to wait for the owner Brett Vago until January 2 in order for him to decide if I was going to be entitled for some compensation. Although I requested not to rewash the jackets, I was surprised to see that both jackets were washed again several times and both still had stains (70 %)all over the place. The owner and managers( Oscar ) gave me the cold shoulder indicating that it was a manufacturer defect. The owner never apologized for ruined very expensive jackets. Mr Vago minimizes mistakes by this company and never wanted to take responsibility for making poor judgement when they proceeded to dry-clean both down feather jackets. I would encourage people not to trust this company ESPECIALLY if you have expensive down feather jackets!! You will waste your money and trust. Pros: this is the cheapest dry cleaner you will find in DC, period. At only $2.29 per garment, you can get 4 dresses cleaned here for the price of one at another store. The turnaround time is great- I have always had my clothes be ready 24 hours after dropping them off. My items have always been cleanly pressed and hung, and they have been able to get out two coffee stains on white shirts. As others have mentioned, there is a small (somewhat treacherous) parking lot behind the store which is helpful during Connecticut ave rush hour. Their extended weekday and Saturday hours are very convenient for those who work unpredictable hours. Cons: you get what you pay for, so while my clothes always come out cleaner and pressed, I have noticed a few times that they haven't been completely cleaned. This is especially true with pants. I do get wary of dropping off expensive items here, based on other reviews, but haven't had any issues with damage or loss myself. High yield: 100% recommend for convenient cleaning on a budget. If you have expensive or delicate items you are worried about, consider paying the extra $5-10 to get them cleaned at a smaller establishment. read more

They took a floor length silk dress (that had straps) and safety pinned it by THE MIDDLE to the hanger with the weight of the dress pulling it. I now have several holes. I recently started using Zips for laundry in mid-July 2021. On a couple occasions I brought in some basic things for dry cleaning, as well. Everything seemed fine. In early August I had two items for repair and dry cleaning along with one designer blouse just for dry cleaning. Three items in total. Although reluctant, I also left my favorite designer blouse to be dry cleaned because I was going on a trip and wanted to bring this blouse with me. When I returned a couple days later I was told only one repair was ready along with my laundry. I was asked to return after 6:00pm for the other repair and dry cleaning item. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it back in time and I had to wait until I returned from my trip. Yesterday, August 19th, I dropped off my laundry for cleaning and asked to pick up by two items that were left from the previous two weeks. Only one item was returned. When I inquired about my designer blouse I was told they didn't have it. What?! I was horrified. I explained that I was told to return to pick it up with my repair back in early August. I did not have the claim check because the attendant took it when I picked up my other things and did not give it back to me. This was a huge mistake and I should have insisted it be returned until all my items were picked up. I spoke with the manager and she claims that the cameras do not show me dropping off this special blouse. I do not believe this as I am 100% sure I dropped it off because I was concerned about having it in time for my trip. The manager, Karen Diaz said she would go back and review all the film but was "too busy" to get to it. I asked if any dry cleaning was sent out and perhaps didn't return. She explained that all dry cleaning happened on site. I went home and found a photo and receipt of the blouse to make it easier for them to locate this blouse. Knowing it was dropped off and not sent out, I am hopeful it will be found. VERY concerned that this was the only item missing. BEWARE. read more

Ughhh why can't Zips fold sweaters? Is it that hard? All my sweaters have bumps on the shoulder that look ridiculous. This is the only cleaners I know that do this. I even picked it up the same day hoping if they didn't fold them (as usual), the shoulders would be ok just hanging a few hours. Nope. The sweaters felt damp when I got them--a sure way to get bumps if not folded. Also, any clothes I have of value, this place has managed to screw up. I have bleach stains on my dress shirts. My trenchcoat is warped at the bottom. The list goes on. Zips is cheap--but you get what you pay for. I'll have to find another place. read more
