The service was good. It was the sandwich that wasn't. There was more bread than actual meat, and the tomato on here was so bad that it would have been better if it were left off. I stumbled upon this place while looking to grab something relatively healthy in the area. I didn't expect to spend $22 on an iced chai latte and a sandwich, but I was willing to pay the price with hope that the sandwich would be good. What a pity. The vibe of the coffee shop is lowkey. No customers inside when I went in, none during my wait and none on the way in as I was leaving. The bathroom was also located outside of the cafe in a locked area. I think there was also an area for seating after passing the counter but i was taking this to-go. The iced vanilla pumpkin chai latte with oat milk was just okay. I tasted a faint amount of pumpkin, but I don't think it was pumpkin spice which is why the taste was a bit bland. I'd give this a 3/5. The sandwich is a 1/5. I'd rather make it at home with canned pesto. The tomato was sub-par and just ruined it for me. More meat would have helped. Service - 5/5. I was in the area for work and decided to try Zing! The bread of the sandwich was fresh and reminded me a lot of fresh bread in NYC. Sandwiches and drinks (lavender lemonade) were amazing. The two people working were kind and extremely helpful. 100% recommend trying this place out. read more

I came here on a Saturday morning around 11am and there was plenty of place to sit. There is no formal parking lot so you have to find street parking. There are no tables inside but there are umbrellas outside to sit in the shade. I ordered the hazelnut latte with almond milk and the meatless sandwich on ciabatta. The latte was made immediately and was extremely good. It wasn't too sweet and the hazelnut flavor was delicious. The sandwich had a bit too much pesto which made the bread really soft. In the future, I would definitely ask for less pesto but overall a good sandwich. The food came out pretty slow considering my friends and I were the only ones there but at the time I think there were only 2 people working. The overall meal + drink cost about $20. I would definitely come here again, these are the kinds of sandwiches you'd take with you for a lovely picnic. read more

A - ma - ZING ~ I loveeeeeee the sandwiches here. They have the PERFECT ham and cheese croissant. Their outdoor seating is really whimsical and homey. Their employees are also super friendly. Overall, a wonderfully quaint place to sit outside and enjoy the California sunshine. The only thing I haven't particularly cared for is their drinks. Last time I stopped in I ordered a dirty chai that was incredibly watery. I'm thinking it was just an off day or a new barista was training because everything else is usually fabulous. I definitely wouldn't order their tea again, but I'm going to try more of their coffee in the future. This should be a regular Berkeley stop for you if you like breakfast sandwiches! read more

Sandwiches to die for. We've been eyeing Zing Cafe for the past couple months and finally found the time to visit South Berkeley for brunch. Great food, service, and atmosphere-- This is the epitome of local eats! For COVID safety purposes, all staff/patrons must wear masks, and all available seating is outdoors. Side street parking only (bit of a sketchy area). Employees are extremely friendly, but maybe understaffed. We saw maybe 2 workers during a slow Sunday afternoon, and our 3 sandwiches still took around 40 mins. Fortunately we were glad to soak in the sun, surrounded by the cafe's decorative plants. CHICKEN RANCH: PERFECTLY. TOASTED. BREAD. Fresh veg, savory meats, great sauce-to-filling ratio. Their chicken is grilled and seasoned just right. Relieved that the wait was worth it! Something to note: I think their location is near... A wasp nest or something? A little distracting to eat a sandwich when there are 2-3 wasps constantly hovering over your food (one, to our sheer terror, even landing on me and refusing to budge). I also didn't see anyone wiping the tables down between guests-- again, probably understaffed. Can only hope that this is an anomaly, otherwise would definitely come back. read more

First off I don't leave reviews so this is a lot for me. The two stars is only for how pretty the exterior building was and that there was only one person working so I'm sure he was trying his best. That being said, I won't be returning. I ordered it took quite some time considering he made someone else's order before mine. My drink was truly awful and I can't drink it and the bread for my sandwich was so stale. Typically I finish what I've gotten regardless but this meal was truly offensive as a customer. I just ate the inside since it was my only breakfast. I really wish I could get a refund since the meal cost me a bit. Like I said staff is nice but he looked stressed being alone. read more

A beautiful picture of two lattes and two pastries were the first thing that I saw when Zing cafe popped up. I instantly gravitated to this cafe and decided to order a chi tea latte and a turkey croissant sandwich with added spinach and tomato. 1. My croissant sandwich was delicious I ate it on my way headed back to work. 2. My Chi Tea Latte on the other hand was , really, really sad. It's watered down completely, $5.00 for the drink and $.25 for the cup = 5.25 for a cup of hot water with a sprinkle of chi spice my drink didn't look anything like the picture here on Yelp. I am very disappointed and in need of my money back. No Love! There was nothing hot, creamy, and soothing about this drink. read more

I had a bit of down time to grab lunch before my dental cleaning down the street, and Zing Cafe was perfectly positioned right outside of Ashby BART station for me to chow down a sandwich. The service was friendly but I think the two dudes working in there must have been completely slammed. A few folks were standing in line ordering their stuff. When I walked up the ramp to wait in line, there was a lady who had been waiting for her BLT for sometime but by the time I walked up to order she couldn't wait any longer and left. I ordered the Meatless sandwich and waited probably close to 30 min. I was starting to think they had forgotten about me and was about to check on them when one of the two guys came around the corner with my glistening bejeweled sandwich. Luckily for me I had an hour to kill. The Meatless sandwich exceeded my expectation! The ciabatta bread they used was so crispy (actually cut the roof of my mouth and side of lip, but worth it!). The pesto-smeared ciabatta sandwiched beautifully layered spring mix greens in reduced balsamic dressing and roasted red bell pepper. I could only eat half and had to ask for a to go baggie. They even offered to wrap it up for me. There was ample outdoor seating in the cute courtyard. A nice way to enjoy the sandwich and watch cars zoom by. I would say I'd definitely come back here. It's a neighborhood favorite for sure. I think for those on a tight schedule it might be worthwhile to order ahead via DoorDash and pick up from them, instead of waiting anxiously outside on the ramp. read more

This little place has DELICIOUS food! My friend and I both had the delightful dolmas. Mmmmm! I had the caprese salad (the two pieces of bread were a nice addition to the roasted red bell peppers, olives, mozzarella, and tomato slices in olive oil and vinegar) and she had a Mediterranean salad with hummus and pita pieces. She told me the paprika on the hummus had quite the kick (hot spicy isn't my jam...) and was yummy. I had an Italian soda and she had iced tea. They brought our food to the table after we ordered at the window. They also made sure we had a full carafe of water so we didn't go without H20! The vibe of the dude at the window and the server guy were chill, friendly, helpful. Their little patio area had enough shade to feel cool on a warm day. I went to Zing Cafe for the first time last Sunday and I am so in love with this little gem :') I love most cafes but Zing really has my heart. 100000% would come here again as it's my new favorite cafe in Berkeley. The staff are super friendly and they have a gorgeous patio area with around 4-5 tables w/ seats (def large enough to be socially distanced). Their prices are reasonable -- about $5 for a large size drink, which is standard for cafes in the Bay Area! I ordered a mocha with almond milk ($0.75 cents extra for plant-based milk substitutes, which is also very standard in the Bay Area) and it was soooo good. It was just the right amount of sweetness and I only waited for a few minutes. To order, you walk up the ramp on the side and place your order at the door; no indoor seating but that's to be expected w/ COVID! The cafe is decorated with a lot of flowers and succulents so super cute. I stayed there for a few hours just to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. I left 12/10 very content!!!! I have never had issues ordering from Zing. Today was the worst I will NEVER go back. The young man was EXTREMELY condescending and rude. I placed a phone order for 2 sandwiches and a cold brew coffee with vanilla syrup and almond milk. When I received my drink it was wrong. there was no vanilla syrup in the coffee and the almond milk was coagulating, and I did not get a straw. The person who picked up my order looked for a straw but since they were busy there were out. The reason why I am even waisting my time writing this is due to the response and tone in which the Zing employee gave me for their errors on my order. I can understand running out of straws. When I called to inform the person over the phone he said that Almond milk does coagulate in cold brew, told me the brand. Said he didnt hear me say add vanilla syrup and said I can take the top off if I dont have a straw. This is not the way to handle customers. By the way Almond milk does not do this, I have ran coffee bars all over the bay area for 15 plus years. I understate not hearing me about the syrup but when the last thing you say to a customer is "you know you can take the lid off" in a condescending tone is not good customer service. There are many other ways to resolve this. Have some better customer service and change the quality on your almond milk and cold brew is old and stale. POOR SERVICE. read more
