A staple in the food industry for years! I grew up on Zero's subs, and I was also lucky enough to grow up right across the street in walking distance to the Zero's here on Lauderdale! Overall great food and service. Only reason I did not rate it a 5 star is due to the early hours the store closes. Last time I wanted to order something it was already closed at 730-8 o'clock. I grew up in Virginia Beach and have long been a fan of Zero's. I've since moved to northern VA and there are no Zero's up here. We recently planned a trip to Williamsburg and mapped it so we could stop at Zero's. Service was great - very friendly and sincere. Sandwiches were EXCELLENT! My favorite has always been the old school Cosmo. My husband got the Philly cheese steak and he said it was the best. The sub we crave is the Grinder and since we moved from Va. Beach in 2008 to Missouri we have to return to VA to satisfy our craving...this past August we were visiting family in Powhatan, VA and before we left MO we looked up Zero Subs and we found the store in the Short Pump area....The store was emaculate, the two young men that we talked with were super friendly and helped us order our favorite Grinder...we even bought and extra one to take back to my sister since she wasn't with us at the time we were there. She is now a fan of Zero's Grinders! Through our conversation with our servers they told us their store has been up and running for 30+ years and I was surprised because the place looked like a new store. The Grinders were as we remembered and seeked while we were back in VA. Now that we know where this store is we will always stop in while we are back home for a visit. Please keep this location going....it's is definitely our new go-to Zero's Sub store....before finding this we were driving down to Va Beach to get our sub on. I grew up with Zero's subs in Virginia Beach. This location is the closest to me now. They do simple, well-stuffed, toasted subs the right way. They're fully toasted, not just slightly heated where the bread is all that really gets toasty, like at subway.. I always do the turkey and cheese and it's never let me down. But the grinder is also tasty if you're ready for something heavier. Kid and adult friendly, fast, and satisfying. With good prices. Gotta love Zero's. read more

Regular size grinder. Didn't ask if I wanted on a substitute bread. They used awful bread for regular size but had the normal bread for the larger size. I asked because I didn't like it. I tip well. Almost asked to get back because they didn't offer to remake or anything Even though I brought it to their attention, they didn't feel like they needed to advise anyone of the substandard substitution. Wow have not been for years. For a reason. Soggy sub, rubbery bacon, warm lettuce, and the bread chewy and flat in a bad way. One bite and the sandwich fell apart. I think bacon was the precooked kind, bagged lettuce, paper thin tomato. Not sure how it got all soggy as I asked for no oil or vinegar. I was in a rush, and there was no way to eat this BLT in the car, Stopped at my house across the way and couldn't eat the thing. It was dirty, trash on the floor, the counter leans all crooked, the joint is half destroyed, no air conditioning door wide open, and it looks like they put this place together in the 80's and never bothered to repair or update anything ever again ... so I just knew the food was gonna be hit and it was. The food was unbelievably good. The preparation was perfect and it was beautifully made. I rarely say this but if I could give this place more stars I would. Not sure why, but their Grinder w/hot peppers, is one of my all time favorite subs anywhere. The owner, or a least the guy always behind the counter, is quiet but friendly. Steak and cheese is also good but the Grinder is king. I used to get the in VA Beach, Norfolk and Nag Head years ago. I call Zero's the Budweiser of subs! I liked Bud before they went woke. Picked up sandwiches at Zero's last night. My husband is from VB and loves the Grub Steak and Cheese. I also had one and had the 1/2 I did not finish for lunch today. It was great. The only reason for the three stars is that I think I was overcharged. I spent $40 (pre-tip) for 2 Whole Grub Steak and Cheeses and 1 Half Cold Turkey + Cheese. That just seems like a lot for 2.5 sandwiches. I am sure we will be back, but maybe I'll just pay more attention next time. That makes each whole sandwich around $15 for a whole and $10 for the half. Terrible customer service, the person taking my order over the phone refused to make a 12 inch sub 1/2 plain and 1/2 with toppings and instead wanted to charge me more for 2 subs. I have been ordering it this way for 5+ years without an issue. I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I love Sandwiches & Subs, especially in the Summer months. For many years, I have seen Zero's Sub shop and I have been wanting to stop. I have been to many different Sub & Sandwich shops and I feel it takes a lot to ruin a Sub. AND this is what happened today. It was probably the worst Sub I have ever eaten. It really takes a lot to ruin a Sandwich, I feel. When I walked in, I noticed how clean the place was and I was greeted by a couple of nice guys. I told them how this was my first time in and I wanted to check them out. The Order Taker said he had been working there for years and he assured me how they were the "Best" subs around Richmond. When I hear this, I am expecting a lot. I asked what is their Signature Sub and he said "The Grinder". I order the Foot Long at a cost of $7.50. He asked if I wanted the additional Mayonnaise, Spices, Tomatoes, Onions and Hot Peppers. I said I would like to have it all, and I especially wanted Extra Hot Peppers.... So he put down 2 Xs for Peppers. I also was asked if I would like to have Whole Wheat or White for my roll. I said White. It did not take long for my order to be ready and I was anxious to come home to dive into what was suppose to be the "Best" sub in Richmond. Upon opening the sandwich, the first thing I noticed... NO Peppers! Than I notice NO Mayonnaise, than NO Spices and NO Oil & Vinegar! It was just the meat with the Provolone cheese laying inside the roll with a little lettuce and tomato. So, I called the Sub Shop and spoke with the Manager and he was apologetic for the mistake. I told him I was going to do a review, and his response back to me was... if I had known you were going to write something, I would have made sure the sub was made correctly... REALLY!!! Not a good statement to make to me! I asked him, does this mean, if I am not going to write a review, it means I do not get the "Best" sandwich? I asked, should I get the "Best" Sandwich regardless of me wanting to write a review or not? He said, this was not what he meant? I am will leave it up to you Folks on how he should have handled this... Anyway, I added some Mayonnaise and hot peppers myself... and once I started eating into the Sub, I realized the Bread was OLD too. It was NOT Fresh Bread with NO taste. Fresh bread has a nice taste to it. I was extremely disappointed after I had asked twice about the peppers, and to ONLY get the meat and cheese on old bread. I could have done better here at home for what I had paid. Too many Sub shops who are making better Subs and they are very good. Sorry, I do not think I will be going back anytime soon. They may have good Sub Sandwiches, however I am not seeing it... and they are certainly NOT the Best in Richmond. By the time i got home on a 100 degree day the sandwhich was wet and soggy the lettuce was brown and i asked for extra tomato and there wasnt a single slice on the sandwhich. I stopped by Zero's Subs for a quick meal over the weekend. Zero's is located in a small strip mall off of Lauderdale Dr. in Short Pump (not far from Short Pump Town Center). I had a hard time deciding on a sub. One of the employees recommended I try a grinder. The grinder has different meats,cheese, and you can add multiple toppings. Some subs are baked which blends the meats and cheese very well in my opinion. The bread was warm with a crisp from the oven. Zero's Subs combo only come a drink. Most sub restaurant combos usually come with fries or chips. The prices are reasonable. Service is very fast. The restaurant is small inside (only a few tables). There's plenty of parking for customers. This was my first time eating at Zero's Subs. I will be back to try other subs off the menu. I give Zero's Subs a 3.5 rating rounded up to a (4). read more

Zero's is disgusting and appears to be prejudiced. The customer service is terrible and the food was disgusting. Not only did they treat other (white) customers better than us (black), they also purposely shorted us on our order ("forgetting" our full order of fries and not giving nearly enough meat on our sandwiches. I have not been here in years, as the last (and first time ever) visit left nothing desirable for a repeat visit. But I decided to go and (try) to use an Entertainment bogo pizza coupon I had. The guy gives me the lamest excuse for why they no longer accept a coupon for their establishment: they don't get their dough from the same place anymore. WTF? Who cares where the dough is from, you make the pizzas in store. I was tempted to leave based on principle, but​ I ordered a pizza anyways. A pizza that I would like to have had chicken on, but apparently they do not have that topping as an option. He said he could get chicken off the sub instead. I assume he meant sliced chicken, which is not the same as cooked chicken. I like thin crusts, but to not be advised the crust would be thin and/or not have an option​ to choose was the 3rd strike. Ate here for the first time recently and it was okay. Their bread didn't seem fresh, was like a sub roll out of the grocery store. No different sauce options (hello Chipotle mayo, spicy mustard etc). The restaurant is old and didn't seem well kept up, most tables did not look like they had been wiped off recently. Need to get with the times and offer fresh bread with different flavors and more dressing options. I usually try to base my ratings on "would I go back". The answer for here is NO, there are to many other better Sub shops around. The staff was friendly tho. read more

Have only had Philly Cheese steaks here. Meat had good flavor and there's plenty of it. Bread is toasted well, but not crumbly. Holds up to the meat well. They use white american cheese. For those that travel I've always liked Philly Connection in Atlanta. Mad Italian in Atlanta also had good cheese steaks -- great bread. They were consistent, ooey-goey, and fast. I've been to Geno's and the one across the street in philadelphia, and I just didn't like them. The gold standard Cheese steak for me in Richmond is Mojo's -- VCU seems so far away from the Far West End. Zero's aren't as good as Mojo's, but they come a close second to what I've found. Small sub shop tucked into a somewhat run down strip mall on the corner of Lauderdale & Church. The steak and cheese grinders are so good, I'm hooked.
