Best place for kareoke in Chicago. They sometimes have events with DJs and good music plus free valet. The place is big and colorful. A good place to hang out with your friends and drink. If you ever fell in love with "Lost in Translation" then Zero is a necessity. I can't speak to their policies regarding private rooms, but the main space is sleek, modern, and enormous. Giant windows overlook the street, there's plenty of seating, and drink prices are absurdly low. It's a great place to just hang out even if you don't want to sing, but I'd certainly take a group of friends there and rent out a room for an evening. For whatever reason, this place captures a certain sense of romance that's often lacking in hip/trendy clubs. We were pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. The English song selection was large and up-to-date, the prices were fair, the room was clean, and the service was good. Love this place. Love this place. This is the most modern/trendy karaoke bar that I've ever seen in Chicago. Salute to the owner for the great job on the bar, the lounge and all the latest technologies. Me and my friends love to sing but we always couldn't find a karaoke spot that can keep us going back. Now, finally we found one, the Zero Degrees Karaoke Bar :) I don't think that the minimum charge of $100 per whole night per small room is ridiculous (according to the first review) however I think it is very REASONABLE and CHEAP. Moreover, this $100 charged is an overall tab minimum which means if you drink $100 or more for that night, you just paid whatsoever that you order. That's why I don't understand why the previous reviewer said the minimum charge is not including order or drinks (probably you misunderstood that policy or you never drink when you go karaoke). Plus, if you just want to sing, you can sit at the lounge. It is FOC unless you order drink... Overall, I finally found a new spot that can hangouts with friends in Chinatown. Went here for a birthday on a saturday night. I walked from the Chinatown stop and it is a hefty walk through dark residential areas. I'll drive or get a DD next time. I got there at like 9:30pm and it was dead. The entrance a lobby where you take either a slow elevator or staircase up. The main area of the place is large with couches and tables, large open dance floor, and a pretty big bar. It gives off a clubby feel with it's sleek interior as TVs display videos to karaoke songs, real MTV videos and not just scenic backgrounds. I think karaoke can go on in this main area but on saturday nite it's more of a club environment. The strong a/c is definitely a nice feature of the place. The mens room was very clean too, at the beginning of the nite at least... We got a private room that fit at least 14 people at it's most full. There was a long couch and lots of ottomans and a couple tables; it was very modern looking compared to what I've seen from other places. 2 mics were in the room and the control panel/song selector is a touch screen that's affixed to the wall. It made it inconvenient to pick songs b/c you had to move to the screen to do it, but the presentation was very fancy. Looking for english songs was a struggle but they ended up having a lot of songs, even some like 3 months old, if you invest the effort into looking. A second smaller set of controls on the wall that also controlled song volume and vocal track along with service call button and random cheer noises was nice, but written in chinese. If I weren't there with chinese people I wouldn't know what was what. The room cost $150 but the drinks were put towards the cost of the room. In addition to the karaoke setup, there were dice and cups in the room to play Liar's Dice (if you played Red Dead Redemption you'd know what it is). Most people I was with played that as I rocked the mic. No one wanted to sing really so SOMEONE had to take charge (i.e.me). The menu had lots of cocktails, a small beer list (oddly enough with NO asian beers), bottle service, and some snack items. I stuck with beer mostly but the lychee martini I tried was good if not a little too sweet. Service was spectacular. They were very responsive to the call button and got us extra ottomans to seat everyone. They kept the buckets of beer coming and did a good job bussing. The main room got bumpin at about 11. Of course the crowd was predominantly asian but there were a handful of white guys with the fever around. Lots of dance music and grinding on the dance floor. It was Beach Night as the theme but no one really partook it seemed even though the venue was decorated appropriately. Overall I say this is a fun place to hang with friends to do private karaoke and get in some dancing if you so desire. The place is smack dab in the middle of a residential area so getting a cab home was a HUGE chore, even with calling the companies. I have not rented a room here so I'm not sure of that aspect of the place. But as far as the main bar area goes, it's a nice "chill" place with ample seats and tables and nice decor. Drinks are inexpensive and the bartenders are attentive. It does get pretty crowded here as the night ensues during the weekend. I would not suggest this karaoke bar. Family visited here before with no problems but today was an issue. They said it seemed like different management. Was charged a special drink charge on my bill of $19 in addition to my $17 food and drink bill. We were told there was a $15 minimum. Asked another group of people if they were charged a drink minimum and they said no.Left there feeling highly disrespected tonight. The staff and the management were very argumentative when I questioned the charge. I would hope that it was not because of my ethnicity but it seemed as if it was. read more

Our experience at this karaoke bar was extremely horrendous. The bar told us that they would give us Hennessy for the same price as a Johnny Walker Black Label ($150 ea) but then charged and served us Hennessey XO without telling us beforehand. Since we don't drink cognac, we were none the wiser and drank it. Our bill at the end of the night was $800 more than had been discussed, and when we went to discuss the check with them, they refused to work with us. We were willing to come to an agreement on the matter since we DID drink the expensive bottle, but the managers kept saying that there was nothing to be done. Moreover, they then offered to give us $150 cash under the table in order to settle the matter, which was both questionable, unprofessional and illegal. The regulars that were friends of the manager also threatened us and told one of our Caucasian friend, "I'm gonna rip out your pretty white boy hair"...and mind you this dude was 6 inches shorter than our friend so it was pretty comical...but overall very off-putting. The music selection was hard to find and look through since everything was in Mandarin, and the customer service was absolutely unacceptable. This bar is absolutely racist. The hostess lied to the five Caucasians who arrived to the bar. She lied about the time the bar closed, she took the mics from us and gave them to other costumers. The bar back then proceeded to shut the blinds and escort us out while other costumers of a common race smoked cigarettes and carried on socializing. This hostess also exagerated that the bar was "closing" by dragging her hand across her neck". I will never go back to zero degrees. We also were given different prices than other costumers. If you're looking for poor service and racism go to Zero Degrees it would be worth your while. If you're looking for a good place go to Sakura Karaoke Lounge, you may get service that is worthwhile. read more

4.5 stars. only reason i didn't give 5 stars was cuz the english song selection is not as extensive as i'd like. otherwise i love this place. will definitely come back. the rooms are really nice, the drinks are great and who doesn't love singing your heart out with a bunch of friends? as for the price, if you break it down, it really is a deal. our group of 7 was in a $150 room for 4 hours. and the $150 INCLUDES food and drink up to $150 worth. that's $21 per person for at least 2 drinks AND 4 hours worth of singing. if you don't drink the wings are awesome. 2 cocktails alone are gonna be $20 in chicago so that's already a steal cuz the singing is basically free. if you sing longer or bring more ppl, it's even cheaper! where else can u get a really nice, new, private karaoke room in chicago? you could go to k town, but that's a far drive, the drinks aren't included, the rooms are the same as 10 years ago and the greasy song books are nasty. zero degrees is definitely the new place for karaoke! read more

I loved the concept of private karaoke rooms! Needs to have a little more lighting in the room though and more recent song selections. Some of the videos for the songs were just down right weird lol. We went during construction so I can't comment too much on the inside besides the room which we were in which was still very nice but they have one room that sooooooo nice but costs a lot to rent out but dang it was pretty. My friend bought a groupon, which seemed like a good deal, we were all excited to go karaoke and get some tunes out of our chest. We went in and were greeted by a man, who was very nice, and we told him about the groupon and he pointed at where we could sit and took our drink order. Everything was fine until we decided to go put some music (english). Half way through the song this very rude girl ( who seemed to be friends with the man who greeted us) got up and would change our song, she would not let us finish. And I understand this is a mostly asian karaoke bar and maybe American music is not their thing, but we did pay to go there its not like we went there for free and taking turns to play songs would of have been the adult thing to do. The same man who greeted us and his group of friends said something to us when we would put on a song. We finally gave up on singing anything when the girl and two other guys decided to erase our playlist...Its shame because this place has potential but who wants to go to a place that makes you feel uncomfortable because you do not play their type of music? Everyone, please save your money, and DO NOT buy their groupon, it is the most unwelcoming place. You would think they would be happy to get business especially on a saturday night where the only group of people there, were the managers friends. Ended my night at a kareoke bar. Weird. Not a big fan of public singing. Free concerts in my car only! However, we wanted to see what it was all about since it tech was 2 blocks away from my place. My friends were frequent go-ers so they knew a lot of people including management. Management bought us shots and that loosened up some of the girls to sing, even me. The music selection is fairly current in the English songs, 6-12 months of radio time. The Asian music, no clue since I haven't followed the new stuff in years. The crowd picked up after 1 AM on a Saturday night. Didn't get overly crowded. People were still coming and going by 3 AM when we left. A host decided we were leaving too early for the night so they have either bounces or humongous guy friends barricade the door against us. I got super pissed and was considering going for a low-blow or calling 911 to report hostage situation. The management then came over and apologized for the friendly joke but we tired girls in heels were not buying it too much, especially me since I was DD and have to drive 5 girls home with work the next day. I've been to Zero a couple of times now and I really think that this is one of the best places in CHICAGO!!! My friends and I are a mixed bunch. White,mexican,black and a couple of unknowns, lol... We all work at a nearby hospital and the first time we went there, we were a little nervous. Think about it. A mixed bunch of nurses walking into a chinese club, lol... When we first got there, we were carded at the door by a tall, bald white guy (scary but comforting). My girls and I looked at each other and said at the same time, SECURITY AT A KARAOKE BAR?! lol... As we entered the club, we were greeted by friendy employees who seated us immediately. As the night went on, we had several drinks, had all their delicious appetizers. We listened to all different kinds of music but we were too shy to sing. lol... One thing my girls and I realized was that the people at the club was very friendly and the mixed crowd was just a normal day at Zero. Met alot of new friends and will definitely recommend Zero to anyone. *ALSO: The security at the place was a major plus!!! We felt safe throughout the entire night.
