My sister-in-law and I were headed to a movie and decided to check this place out for the first time. We were pleasantly surprised since many times we try new sushi places and it doesn't live up to our old standbys. I would definitely come back here again. As soon as we entered the atmosphere was comfortable and modern. We were immediately greeted by several people and seated with our drink orders taken within a minute. There were many specials to choose from, and it was hard to decide. We each purchased a role and have them delivered to us less than 10 minutes later. The cost was pretty typical, anywhere from 6 to 8 dollars a roll and then anywhere from $11-$16 for a specialty roll. Both of our rolls were delicious and beautifully presented. :) Not bad for shopping strip sushi. It's your standard sushi. Fairly priced and reasonable. The decor and setup were simple. I appreciate the cleanliness and simplicity. I ordered the seared ahi tuna. it was quite yummy and very pretty. They made it into a rose shape. It was nothing like the picture on menu but i'm not complaining because it was a pleasant surprise. The tuna rolls were a little on the small side but for $4.95 a roll so I guess I shouldn't complain. The other rolls were ok. THe service is a bit slow and it wasn't even busy. Don't eat here if you have a time crunch. They put all the rolls on one plate. It would have been nice if they had separated them by personal orders. The three of us had trouble accessing out own food. It was annoying having to reach over to grab my roll. I'll be back here if I'm hungry and have little time to spare. read more

I wanted to so much like this place... I can honestly say the best thing about Zena was the sink in the women's restroom... I didn't get the chance to peep out the little boys room, it may be cooler... Service was terrible. And slow. And terrible. And slow. Our server probably had the worst multi tasking ability I've ever seen. There were about 5 tables in the whole restaurant and granted she was the only one on, but none seemed to be high maintenance. She had difficulty listening, not understanding like a language barrier, but actually listening to what I was saying. In what country does edamame take 20 minutes? Are you growing them in the back? And Veggie Tempura take 30?? Two rolls and a bento box took a little over an hour to prepare... The prices were decent... we got a soda, two sticky rices, two rolls, a chicken teriyaki bento box, veggie & shrimp tempura plate and two orders of edamame for under $50.00. The rolls were okay. The panic roll was much better than the North East Mall Roll, but neither was great. The fish didn't taste fresh, and the imitation crab they use is just plain nasty. But put enough hot sauce and jalapenos on anything and it begins to taste good!! I might stop by again when I am in the mall to use the bathroom, but other than that, I will not revisit. read more

Located just outside of Northeast mall, this place is a lot smaller than what I expected. We came here on a Thursday evening so it wasn't as crowded. Service was quick and the sushi was sooo delicious and fresh. Prices are comparable to other sushi places. They also have bento boxes and fried rice! This was our first time trying Zena Sushi by northeast mall rave theater. The place looks very clean and hip. The staff was very welcoming and polite. I liked how the menus had images of all the dishes available . The waiter was very attentive and refilled our drinks fast. We order the takoyaki, cajun edamame, volcano roll, and Sushi sashimi bento box. Our food came out super quick. Less than a 10 min wait. It wasn't empty in there nor was it too crowded so we were happy at how the food came out quickly. All of our dishes came out fresh. The takoyaki was hot of the stove..really yummy. The edamame was steamy and good too. The volcano roll had fresh crayfish and scallop bits. My sushi sashimi bento was great. The fish was super fresh and tasty. I think we got a great deal for the great quality of food we got. I recommend everyone go try it! I will definitely come back for more! Any normal person would be apprehensive about going to eat mall parking lot sushi. Especially since it replaced gelato (NOOOOO!!!!!), but since it's an Asian alternative to Genghis Grill I figured it's worth a shot. Plus I didn't have to eat at Genghis Grill. It's not bad! Delicious and priced right. Went in for a very late lunch craving sushi, and pleased my second visit there (first was a couple of months ago) was consistently good! Sat at the sushi bar, enjoyed miso soup, 3 rolls and some tuna and yellow tail sushi. Was very hungry and went home stuffed! All orders were under $6 and the size of the yellow tail and tuna were larger than I enjoy elsewhere. Tuna was great texture, yellow Tail melted in my mouth, and the Philadelphia and California rolls were on target. My only disappointment was I didn't have room for Unagi (cooked Eel sushi) or dessert. Definitely coming back, probably tomorrow! Update: I came back the next day and had almost the same things plus the Unagi sushi. It was as expected-delicious. There are better sushi places out there, ones that have a better ambiance or more traditional feel to them, but for what it's worth, this place was alright. Stopped by here for a quick bite before running a bunch of errands. Two big reasons why this place didn't get four or five stars. First, TOO MUCH SAUCE. Calm down on the sauce guys! Second, searing beef for the beef tataki means searing, not cutting up some beef and tossing it on a plate with ponzu sauce. Our remade sushi, house salads and dessert were amazing. I would come back but definitely request for sauce either on the side or put on lightly. The service is wonderful and our waiter constantly repeated our orders. This is a small and hip restaurant to step foot in. Very different from the other places that surround the movie theater. All prices are fair and the portions are great. Stopped in before the movies next door. Don't know how this place has a fairly high rating. It was empty on a Saturday night for a reason. The restaurant is cute and brightly lit, not noisy and has a decent atmosphere. Our first server, a male, was ok. I asked it they had any vegetarian options and he named a few. We ordered green tea and sake for Steve. The green tea was served in a large coffee cup as was not really hot. Our next server, a young female took our order without writing anything down. We ordered several items and she just listened and left. Our miso soup arrived and it was hot and a little salty, but ok. My vegetable roll arrived before my edamame appetizer. It was a poorly assembled roll with too much pickled radish which overpowered everything else. The rice was very cold and tasteless. My husband's nigiri Sushi was made with the same below par rice, however he said the slices of fish were larger than normal and very good. My Cajun edamame arrived finally and it was spicy but the edamame was a little overcooked. The server came by to see if we wanted anything else. We had ordered 2 other rolls at the very beginning but she forgot them. So we repeated, one avocado roll and one spicy California roll. She apologized and I suggested she write her orders down next time. A few minutes later the first guy brought a single plate with the two rolls on it and asked who ordered it. I replied that I ordered the vegetarian roll and Steve ordered the crab roll. So he left and returned with separate plates. My avocado roll was inexpertly rolled to the point it didn't meet at the seams. Very sloppy. My husband's roll had a huge amount of fake crab pot of proportion to the other ingredients. Very strange. I am getting really tired of sushi places that can't make sushi rice right or even roll it right. This was a disappointing meal. Service was also off. read more

We are from California and the bar is set high. This place would not exist for long in Cali. Unfortunately the fish is not fresh and you can taste the frozenness of the fish. We ordered the sashimi and got fake crab meat with the combo. The dumplings were fried and we had to reorder them steamed. Even after we reordered the dumplings the meat was white. I felt like I was eating guacamole with fish... I used to love this place a few years ago as just a "quick" sushi place, but yuck... I can't get that taste out of my mouth. It was thattttt bad.... Their miso wasn't flavorful either. I'm sure everything is made pre packaged and nothing is entirely "fresh". Ok I haven't done one of these in a hot second, so please forgive me! I came just because I was jonesing for some sushi after my quick trip to Macy's. I haven't had it in months and REALLY needed something that would pick me up. This place is pretty much just sushi with very little "cooked entree" varieties, but I came for the sushi and my fiance ate the chicken teriyaki, so no biggie. Ok down to the sushi and what you really want to know. I got the sashimi bowl because I found that it had all of my favorite fish. (salmon, tuna, white tuna and red snapper.) It was delicious, and very well sliced. It wasn't thick at all, which made for a every easy bite. The quality of fish was actually pretty good. Nothing fishy, and it had great color. It came with a very satisfying miso soup. It was just the right amount of miso paste, and not too watered down. The service was great. The waiter was super attentive and nice and didn't seem "put out" to answer any of my questions, which was really nice. I didn't feel pressured nor did he make me feel bad for being so indecisive. (I wanted to get the right thing to be able to do a review for yelp!) One thing is I wish it was more affordable. It's not that it's like SO expensive that I would never go again, but it's definitely not the best deal in town. Honestly, I will be going back again soon. Maybe bi-monthly?! Well, well, well.....Northeast Mall gains a sushi eatery. Here's the good, bad and the ugly. The good - clean, reasonably priced and everything was fresh. They have several rolls that are in the $5 range. Pretty large menu - I got a bento box that included delicious miso soup, sticky rice, spicy chicken teriyaki (blah) and 4pc of california roll (really good other than the crab quality). The bad - cheap quality crab - cheap imitation at that. Blech. Didn't like their salad dressing, I usually love ginger dressing, there's was chunky and had no flavor. Slow service, we were there for lunch at 2pm and there was only one other table with customers - had to ask for drink refills. The ugly - me. Leaving with sticky rice that fell down my shirt and a soy sauce stain. I just can't give up on chopsticks no matter how bad I suck at eating with them. read more

Perfect combination of jalapeno, cream cheese, and crab meat fried! LOL I really like the yellowtail roll as well. The miso soup here is not bad and their house salad is pretty tasty. Went there with my wife on a Friday night around 8:30pm. Not busy at all. Didn't know if that was good or bad. But we started with the Pork Gyoza and a side salad. Gyoza was awesome and the salad had a very sharp and tangy ginger sauce. Really liked it. We got a couple rolls. One was a Panic roll which is avocado, spicy crabmeat, spicy sauce and a jalapeno. YUM. Wife got a crunch roll. Not sure what was in it but she liked it. We all shared an AHI Tower. VERY VERY GOOD! So we got two soft drinks, a salad, appretizer, two rolls and an Ahi Tower for under $30. Thought the food was great and it was very good on the pocket book. We will definitely be back. read more
