This was my first yoga class in the DMV & North Virginia since I moved here. I found the yoga class online and checked out the website of the yoga studio. I signed up for class online at the yoga studio's website and received a confirmation email of my reservation for the class. The studio was easy to find and is in a very nice residential area in an outdoor shopping center. Lots of free parking. The drive there was very easy, no traffic, and had nice views of the Potomac River & beautiful residential areas along the Mt. Vernon Trail. Shannon Cody, the yoga instructor, was very kind, empathetic, knowledgeable, and easy to understand & listen to as a yoga instructor. Upon entering the yoga studio, she checked me in and guided me through the studio. Before the class started, I told her in private of how my hip & leg was still healing from surgery and how I was instructed by my surgeon to avoid certain poses that might misalign my hip & leg. She took notice of it and understood. Shannon exuded warmth and peacefulness throughout the class. She quietly instructed and allowed every one to take modifications for certain yoga poses and how to use the yoga blocks to assist & modify certain poses. She went from beginner level to intermediate level yoga stretches and body movements. The class is very beginner friendly for people new to yoga despite the integration of more advanced level poses. Time seemed to fly swiftly during the yoga class. Shannon integrated some intermediate level/ balancing, standing, & strength yoga poses in the class and showed how to use the blocks for modification. Ardha Chandrasana (Half Moon Pose ) and Airplane Pose (Dekasana or Warrior III with Airplane Arms) were my favorite poses during the class. It was difficult putting weight on my right hip & leg (still healing), so I put effort yet less stress on that side. When the class ended, everyone was able to get their own mat sanitizer bottle & cloth at the supply station to clean their yoga blocks & mats. I liked how the bottles and cloths were personalized with the studio's logo. I left the yoga studio and class feeling accomplished, refreshed, and calm. Overall, I was very satisfied with the cleanliness of the studio, my yoga instructor's efficiency, energy, ease, & professionalism, and the flow of the yoga class. I would highly recommend coming to the community class and taking yoga classes in this studio. Presently, they have an introductory offer for new clientele: $39 for 7 day pass to classes there. The pass is activated on the day you purchase it. I plan to take more classes in Jess Purtell Yoga Studio and look forward to going there in the future.

I have called multiple times before arriving with no answer (just assuming they were busy) ofc since they were reading OPEN online... Anyway, after so many attempts to reach her or someone who works there at all, I don't get a call an hear back from the owner until 4pm and it was 11:50 when i arrived at her studio!!!!!!! I explained to her that i just moved back to DC from ATL.. So knowing anything beyond what a normal person would see, i would have no idea of. However, I was recommended her studio by a friend and wanted to give a try. I also let her know how i even caught a uber there an back which totaled $54 with change. Now her response to everything??? COVID: the studio is clean and she does check and record your temperature. She offers hand sanitizer before and after class. Dawn's energy is electric and her studio has a "Girlfriends" vibes. As a newbie in her class, she introduced each of us, remembering names and birthday months. Her yoga class is more of a journey of self-love, affirmation and meditation, which is much needed in my life. She encourages you to move at your pace (which I appreciate especially because I haven't exercised since March). Once the yoga class was over we enjoyed a cup of hot tea (lavender and mint). I decided to stay and experience Barre, Buttz & Gutz... BABY, I was NOT ready for this!! LOL! It's a high energy and fast pace! Even though, I am out of shape and the first 15 mins left me wanting to tap out... I pushed through! I am looking forward to attending classes from here on out. Please look up this studio and sign up for a class or 2 or 3! Oh... not that this matters or anything... but Dawn's physique is aspiring..... I am happy to have found a fitness home! Last summer I moved to NYC. Before that time I spent almost six years in Arlington studying with Mark and his team for 500-1000 total hours. He is a very experienced teacher, and the most studied and wise yoga expert I have met so far on the East Coast, bar none. Be advised that Mark does not teach pranayama (breath work) or meditation in his classroom, but this isn't because he would dismiss their benefits. When you practice with Mark, you're there to work, to build endurance, and become (I can't think of a better way to say it) incredibly super strong. In addition to having some years of active vinyasa practice under your belt, I recommend that you start to build a pranayama and meditation practice before coming to his classes, so that when you do come to explore the physical practice, you can do so with more focus, and someday get into postures you might only be able to dream of today. Mark is an all-around fitness guru; he gives great assists and adjustments in yoga, and is a savant when it comes to observing the body and training its movement. His cues are verbally advanced, but over time you'll realize that they contain all of the practically useful knowledge you need to cultivate a really badass practice. Rebecca is funny, brilliant and absolutely amazing with beginners. You'll love her style and her presence. I know I did. Nikki's classes were always my favorites. She does teach pranayama, and so beautifully. And every single week she brings a new sequence. Just an incredibly bright, creative and supportive teacher, and an expert on transitions and inversions. All of the staff bring something great to Edge. I totally recommend it to travelers in NoVa who have an active practice and are looking for great weekend morning offerings. To any locals who haven't tried it, get there!
