I'm regularly think to myself that I'm thankful that this studio opened so close to home. Some of the classes that I cannot recommend enough: - Deep Stretch (Tuesday PM): after my first session, my hips felt loose for the first time in months (literally). What a great find! - Restorative Yoga & Guided Meditation (Sunday PM): love, love, love this send off into the coming week! It's not a fitness-yoga class, but rather a health-and-wellness class. Beyond regularly scheduled classes, there are workshops. I have enjoyed every workshop I've attended and I've learned a lot of applicable knowledge and skills! Alexandria, VA - I recently had a great experience with yoga when at a work conference and realized…read moreit was time to find a solid studio to take on a more regular practice. Ran across this studio in an office building close to Huntington Metro. Right now there's a fantastic new student offer - 14 days of unlimited yoga for $30. Such a great low risk way to check it out! Scheduling is super easy via the website. It even sends calendar reminders. One can take the Metro or drive as this location features plenty of free parking. Once you schedule you are issued the door code to enter the building. The fourth floor studio holds about 20 or so students comfortably. Classes are taught by the studio owner Sarah and a few other teachers. So far I've been to the foundations class twice. Sarah talks through each pose and walks around to check how people are doing. I appreciate the slower pace and the fact that she offer suggestions to either make a pose harder or easier if needed and also coaches on alignment. Each class ended with resting at the end. Sarah also played the singing bowls which I will be honest I find a bit uncomfortable on my ears but if others in the class dig it, who am I to say differently? The Wednesday class features a 30 minute meditation afterwards. In this class different types of meditation are explored. It's easy to see that Sarah really cares about her students. The studio is neat and tidy and overall very welcoming. Sarah finds a lot of joy in what she does and shares that joy with her students. In my most recent class she cooked up a batch of turmeric milk for students to taste. Pretty neat! When my 14 day new student offer expires I plan to purchase a class pack to make this a regular part of my fitness routine. I am grateful to have found this lovely studio.

She was warm, pleasant, professional, and extremely helpful every step of the way. Fast forward to today, May 31st -- the day of my private hot yoga birthday party -- I finally had the opportunity to meet Abby in person, and she was just as amazing, caring, and welcoming as she had been over email. I loved how she took the time to learn everyone's first name and greeted each guest personally. She was attentive throughout the session, noticing when some of my guests were getting too hot and thoughtfully adjusting the temperature. She was also very accommodating to two of my guests, which I truly appreciated. What stood out most was how she created a space where we could be ourselves, have fun, bring our energy, and still stay connected to the yoga flow. Every single one of my guests spoke highly of Abby and her exceptional customer service. This experience was everything I hoped for and more. I will definitely be returning soon!

Oh what do I say about EYD and Erin…read more... Anyone who knows me, knows I LOVE beer. I also love yoga. So when I'm able to combine the two, well, it's pretty awesome for me. I had followed EYD's Facebook page for a while, but was never able to make it to a class. Finally the stars aligned (all 5 of them) and I took my very 1st EYD class at Fair Winds. Not to lay on the puns, but I was hooked (line and sinker). Since then I've been to Erin's classes at Sehkraft (RIP), Mister Days, Tysons Biergarten (RIP?), Courthaus Social, New District, and even DC Brau when she covered for another teacher. Erin's classes are truly all level. Some instructors will say they are, but then never give you variations on certain positions or chide you for sticking to your particular practice. Erin is not one of those teachers. She has this innate ability to make you feel comfortable and welcome. But my favorite thing about her classes is the cheese factor. She makes jokes and silly comments...example at the Spookasana class (that's Halloween themed yoga) the position known as "cat/cow" became "Screeching cat/Howling werewolf". IT IS ok not to take yourself too seriously sometimes. I personally believe that true balance is equal parts focus and cheese. I recommend EYD's classes to everyone. And hey, if you end up trying one out and see me there be sure to say hi! As Erin always says, "Namaste and cheers!"

Despite having zero experience with yoga, I felt comfortable in the class, and the teacher was a young woman who was very casual and friendly. Yoga begins with a short guided meditation to prepare your body. The classroom has various pillows, props, and mats for people who don't have their own, or need a little help due to limited flexibility or mobility (e.g., arthritis). I was not given any kind of sales pitch or anything like that, either when I signed up or during class. The vibe of this place reminded me a bit of the zen center in San Francisco - very family-like, not in a weird or cult way, just a real sense of community there. If you're looking for guided meditation, classic yoga, and a supportive environment where you can learn to relax your mind and body, no matter you age or physical situation, I recommend YIDL.
