What a little hidden gem! I came here after a stressful day of work and I am so glad I did. I was completely mindful, focused, and stretched out with the yoga practice I was a part of! The ambiance was clean, cute, warm, and inviting, as was the instructor - this is everything when it comes to a yoga studio, especially when you're there for the first time. I'm so glad I found this gem. I've attended about 6 classes now through ClassPass and I highly recommend. 532 yoga has a great variety of classes. My favorites are the "hip opener", "alignment yoga", and "slow stretchy delicious" which is perfect after a long day of work. I've been practicing yoga off-and-on for nearly twenty years. Have joined studios from Hawai'i to NYC and done lots of unique types (acro, aerial, and so forth). This studio is one of the best. Each teacher provides helpful guidance. Even for 60 minute classes, there is ample time to warm up. Suzanne, the owner, is meticulous. Today's alignment class, taught by her, was so enjoyable the 75 minutes flew by (and we all agreed could have gone another hour and we would have happily stayed). Suzanne's class is by far the best yoga class I've ever been to. I went to a gentle yoga class of hers that was gentle but still pleasantly challenging. She is incredibly talented at teaching micro movements and is so descriptive in her way of teaching. I wish I could better name why her class was so amazing. Dropped in to try out Suzanne's gentle class, followed by her 60-minute hip class. I was impressed with both. Here's what I liked: - Suzanne's cueing is top notch. This is important when taking a yoga class. It enhances the experience when you can move through poses without having to constantly watch the instructor. It also helps reduce injury. - The space is clean, simple and relaxing. No frills. No fancy-pants type of vibe. Just a space to practice yoga. A community, neighborhood vibe. That is what I am looking for. - I've checked the schedule and it appears that there are many types of offerings for various practice levels. While I gravitate to gentle/restorative yoga these days, I would like to try some of the more challenging classes at some point. - Suzanne is welcoming and there is a big focus on alignment - which many instructors miss. I've taken anusara classes in the past and alignment is also a focal point. I like that because I do tend to get lazy in this area. Appreciate her reminders throughout class. - The hip class was no joke. These are exercises that will strengthen muscles you didn't know you had. This is so very important for men/women of all ages. I went for my first class today and I was very impressed. I have been to most of the Yoga studios in the area once or twice over the past 20 years and never felt comfortable going back (I am not interested in hot yoga so I can't comment on those). They were all too intimidating for me to return as a beginner and not very inviting or staff were off-putting and not very welcoming for a sometimes awkward individual like myself. Also a few of the studios were a part of a chain that lacked any personal touch or real yoga feel (some also felt stiff and not very relaxing in general). 532Yoga didn't feel anything like my previous experiences elsewhere and it felt very warm and welcoming upon arrival and the class was very enjoyable for once. Attended Candlelight Community yoga (DC Yoga Week) and can attest that 532 Yoga lives up to it's current ratings. Our instructor was very knowledgeable and offered hands-on assistance. Since it was a community class, the poses were more basic with longer time in pose (aka not vinyasa). The queuing was spot on (and even had me correcting my hip position). I look forward to attending other classes as I see they have some of my personal favorites like Jivamutki and Dharma. It is nice to see a variety! The room we used was longer than it is wide (so maybe three mats across) with room for appendages. read more

Enjoy Saturdays Yoga 101, Love the Instructor! she is patient and provides support for those who are not as experienced with Yoga. You learn different basic poses, breathing, and stretching. Studio is gorgeous, energy is bright, peaceful, clean with beautiful light hard wood floors and natural light. Wear long sleeves if you get cold easily, or remember to grab a blanket before class. Only issue I have is....Studio can be chilly! Particularly when you are warming up your muscles, and want to keep them warm, and stretching it is uncomfortable with cold air conditioning blowing on you. With Yoga you naturally warm the body and muscles from the inside, however, it is hard when the air conditioning is to high. read more

I moved to Old Town right before the quarantine lockdown went into place so I haven't practiced or attended a yoga class in months. Today I signed up for an alignment class with Suzanne and really enjoyed tuning in with what was going on with my alignment in foundational poses. Suzanne's expertise and cues really helped me think about my seated posture, plank, downward, upward dog and chaturanga dandasana in ways I hadn't before. The studio is beautiful, clean, full of good energy--I'll definitely be back for more classes. read more

Suzanne is warm, friendly and humorous. The studio is tranquil and welcoming in a nicely renovated Old Towne home on Washington street. All is clean and neat, with glowing hardwood floors, white painted brick and the usual zennie accoutrements. The studio is a bit odd shaped, so when a lot of yogis show up, the teacher will be in the center of the long studio and we all face in, no biggie. They have a good supply of blocks, bumpers, straps and other supports for all your needs. Their class offers are very wide, going from beginner to ashstanga primary series, with specail alignment classes, meditation classes, slow and strechy classes, etc. The instructors I have had, including Suzanne have been very good about providing guidance and adjustment suggestions. Parking is on the street, but it seems fairly easy to come by. Power Hour: I skipped out of work on a couple Friday lunches and tried power hour. I am used to Ashtanga, so I worried this would be a little light, but Colleen got us warmed up and into positions that required enough effort to break a good sweat. She was good about offering several mods to most position so you could go from easy to hard if you felt like it. It was a good amount of workout for lunch. Of course, you can get pretty sweaty if you try, so you might need a shower afterwards, or you can take it easy. Dharma Flow: I don't remember to much about this. I think it was smooth and easy, fine for newbies graduating the "101" class and not very strenuous. The teacher also gave good adjustments. Alignment: This was taught by Suzanne and as the name implies, it provides a focus on proper positions and alignments. It is a good way to refine your practice and get ready for Asthanga, if that is something you want to try. Susanne's guidance and tips are very helpful as each position has many compontents that all have their own purpose and proper position. Sometimes she will make a physical adjustment for you and often verbal reminders: shoulder blades to the waist, microbend those elbows, breathe, knees up, fingers pointing forward, use those banhas, gaze here, gaze there. You don't just get this in alignment, she emphasizes it in all the classses. 1-hour ashtanga: Ashtanga is usually a 1.5 hour class including warm ups and cool downs, but you can't do that at lunch. Suzanne skillfully adjusts this to squeeze into an hour while hitting many of the classic poses of the full series. Sometimes we just count to 3 instead of 5 and sometimes we drop asanas and frequently jump backs are skipped. She also adjusts the content based on the skill level of the day. It is a decent way to start to learn the classic series, but don't just drop in cold, make sure you have experienced most of the pose. Search YouTube for "ashtanga" + "Maria Villella" or + "Keno Macgregor". Very cool stuff, but takes some practice. See you on the mats. read more

I love 532 yoga! I went to Suzanne's Ashtanga Flow class. She led the class with SUCH helpful instruction. I could not believe how much she improved my practice in just ONE class! I have been practicing yoga for a little over 5 years. I have gone to severalll yoga studios, but I have never been to a class that offered so much guidance all while making the class challenging, relaxing and empowering all at the same time. There were several times where I realized I was capable of doing a pose I never thought I was capable of doing AND that I was able to correct a pose I've done several times. I highly recommend this studio! If you work with Suzanne, she will keep it challenging, keep it real, and keep it light hearted and fun :) read more

I do not disagree with any of the reviews here. The instructors are great, the studio is nice, the location/parking is convenient, and the class offerings are of good variety. My review would be 5 stars, just like all the others, had it not been for my most recent experience. I first attended 532 Yoga under a 2-week free trial with ClassPass. I enjoyed the classes and wanted to continue my practice there. I would have continued to book using ClassPass had I not come across a Groupon that seemed like a great deal. I contacted the owner asking if I could use the Groupon on the day of purchase and she said to give the instructor my voucher info. I spoke with the instructor informing her that I had taken a class with her under a ClassPass trial and that I liked it so much I purchased the Groupon. There were no issues and I was able to attend that night's yoga session. The next day, the owner sent me an email stating that I could no longer use the Groupon and that my account was considered "unpaid" because I am already a "current student." I wasn't aware that being in a trial period with ClassPass qualified me as a "current student." I apologized for the misunderstanding and wanted to take care of my "unpaid" status. As I planned to continue using ClassPass with 532 Yoga, I offered to book a session and simply not attend so that the studio would get paid for the session I took with Groupon. After a few email exchanges, it became apparent that ClassPass members are not as profitable for the business as direct studio members because the owner made it clear that she was unwilling to accept anything other than a drop-in fee of $22 or an equivalent 4 ClassPass sessions which I would not be able to attend. I paid the $22. I understand that this is a business but it seems to me short-sighted to capitalize on a misunderstanding at the risk of losing a long-term client. It's a shame because I wanted to make this my go-to yoga studio but my correspondence with the owner left me disappointed. I hope the other people checking out this studio, whether through ClassPass or Groupon, don't run into similar issues because 532 Yoga otherwise seems like a great place. read more

I love this yoga studio! It only took a few classes there before I signed up for a year membership. The space is very nice and instructors are all good. Lots of variety in classes and times. I have to say that by far my favorite class is the 6am Joyful Morning Yoga with Matthew. He has such a calm and soothing way about him. The class starts with just the right amount of movement in the morning to get your circulation going and ends with a guided yoga nidra meditation. I start my day feeling both energized and tranquil, and have my most productive days afterwards. read more

I paid $20 (plus $1 for a mat rental) and got endurance, strength, stretch and let's not forget pain. Now I suppose that in order to get the first three, it is accustomed to tolerate a little pain, but I got a lot of it at this studio. So much pain that I wanted to cry for being tortured so badly. By torture I mean, holding the poses for long periods of time, and doing the good ones. The ones that make those muscles work! I don't know about you all, but I always hated the teachers during the time that they taught me the most. It was only later that I came to love them. That's the sort of teacher the owner of the studio, Suzanne, happens to be. She was trained in Iyengar yoga across the ocean in England, but brought her lovely skills, along with her own flavor (as most modern Iyengar yoga teachers tend to do) over to Alexandria, thankfully. I found her sweaty full spectrum 90-minute class, in which we held each pose for what seemed like ages to be the perfect full body workout. The studio space was immaculate. The space is long and narrow, creating a unique shape, yet still enough room to fit plenty. The brick walls covered in off-white paint and spotless laminate wood floors are welcoming. There are big windows on both ends of the building, making for a serene environment for one to feel as though he is dying, oops, I meant practicing yoga while shining brightly. There were plenty of props (this is another standard when you find an Iyengar influenced studio) from straps to blocks to blankets and so on. There are even several yoga mat cleaners at the students' dispose waiting to be used after class. Fancy! There was a medium sized shop once you walk through the front door selling a variety of things including: Funky yoga pants heavy duty yoga mats (for rent and sale) flip flops yoga props handmade skirts t-shirts tank tops and a ton of items in which I was in too much of a hurry to browse through, but they looked fun! Would I return to this studio? Oh yes! Give me pain and I know it will pay off. If I was a local or even a regular of Suzanne's class, I'm pretty sure I would have ripped abs and a better yoga butt in a matter of a couple weeks! 532 N. I originally came here on a yelp deal, and thank goodness! This is hands-down the best yoga studio I've been to in either Chicago or the DC-NOVA area! They have a great variety of classes, good weekend schedules, and most importantly - amazing instructors! All of them are really knowledgeable and committed to their practices, and they're all super nice and welcoming - no making you feel badly if you're a beginner! I'd say this studio truly accommodates people of all levels, and all of the teachers are great about being sensitive to and aware of any injuries people in class may have. They offer easier and much more advanced variations (lots of inversions in Rocket Yoga!) in all classes. There's also always street parking nearby, and the studio itself is really clean and peaceful. I had a great experience in the candlelight yoga class at 7:30 on Sunday. The studio is nice and clean and there is street parking available. Mats, blocks, blankets, and straps are available for use. The instructor was really nice and the class had a unique setup where the instructor was in the center of the room and we all turned out mats to face her. There weren't any mirrors but the instructor was helpful in correcting form. I will be back. read more

532Yoga is an excellent space for folks at any yoga level! Unlike gyms, 532Yoga's studio space is tranquil, warm, intimate and inviting. At first I thought it would be difficult to do yoga in a space without mirrors, but in time I grew to learn that the practice is as inward physically as it is mentally - the mirrors would have been a distraction! I have been going to 532Yoga for a few months now for Ginny Loving's Power Rocket class and have seen a vast improvement in my strength and skill. All of the instructors I've had there have been incredibly personable and have created a great atmosphere for any level-practitioner to grow in. Dropped in to a class with the owner and she was awesome. She provided a challenging class with lots of variety. The studio is clean, easy to access and there was space to store my things while I practiced. I am typically a practitioner of heated power vinyasa and the class that I took was advertised as a heated class. It wasn't quite as warm as I liked it but it was still a challenging class. The drop in classes are $20 but I was lucky to be able to use a yelp coupon and do a drop in class for $10 instead. While I won't be changing home studios, I will definitely consider add this to my repertoire of a drop in every now and then to change things up. read more

I have just finished taking the new class Aleasa at 532Yoga instructed on Perfect Posture Makeover. I have to say it was really the best class I have ever taken because it gave me some very simple things to do and some things to be aware of to correct my posture. I have had poor posture my whole life. Everyone has told me to stand up straight, hold my shoulders up but I learned that it is not just about my shoulders, it is about my chin and head positioning. Very simple things to do to correct and strengthen my back so I can stand tall. I feel confident and I look pretty now. It is a constant effort but I know how to correct my droopy shoulders because of this class. It really is a must to do. I hope they do it again. read more

I like the convenience of 532 Yoga. However, the studio isn't very big for the amount of people they let sign up for classes. I took a beginners class and the place was super hot and stinky and because so many people were there, I spent most of the time focused on the scaly, fungus foot of the guy in front of me because it was constantly in my face. They have a decent variety of classes. However I wish they had kept the Sunday meditation. I purchased a pass based on an email special that said it was good for 90 days and when I went to use it, it turned out to be only good for a month. I double checked the time before I had purchased it because I travel so much I wanted to make sure it was worth it, but when I looked in my account when I used it it was not the same as the offer. Bummer. I do like that for the most part the instructors are very helpful. However a few seem to get frustrated if you can't do advanced moves. I may attend a class or two, but I'm also going to check out some of the others in town. read more

532 is an amazing studio with incredible teachers! When I moved to the area I used Groupons for various studios and found some that I liked but nothing stuck. I found 532's yoga 101 for beginners class in early 2016 and the teacher was great. She seemed to know anatomy really well and was able to guide me to poses that worked well for my skill level. Since then I have taken classes with several instructors and they are all incredible! Lately I have been taking a power sculpt class on Thursdays with the owner, Suzanne. Suzanne's knowledge of yoga poses, combined with her knowledge of the body, allows her to teach in a way that tones every muscle group while protecting your joints, which I love! They also have a candlelight yoga for relaxation which I have been meaning to try, as well as a prenatal yoga series, yoga for veterans, yoga for tweens, etc. and seem to work hard to appeal to every type of person. I hosted a yoga party (class) on 8/8/15 at 532 Yoga. First of all if you're looking for an untraditional party idea, I think a yoga party is a great idea. I had a very good response from my friends about coming to a yoga party (class). Second of all 532 Yoga (specifically Jen) was exceptional at responding to all my questions. The costs to host a party at 532 Yoga are easy to understand. I have to mention that 532 Yoga's pricing is fair. I compared several studios in the area. 532 Yoga cost for a private class was slightly lower than other studios in the area. My only compliant about their pricing stucturer is you are literally charged per the minute for anytime you spend outside of the private class. The class (which Jen taught) was a lot of fun. Jen was able to work in all my requests (i.e. music, non-heated class). My party was planned with 15 minuties for set up, guests arrive 30 minuties before the class to the mingle, a 1 hour class and an hour of mingling after class. I recommend this plan if you host a party. It seemed like it was just the right amount of time for everyone who attended. The studio space is also very nice. The pictures I took came out great because the studio fills up with so much natural light. (I actually thought if I ever have to do a photo shot for something I would consider renting the space simply based on what came out on my phone.) The party would have been even better if the lobby reception area had a larger table to place my refreshments. Overall, I was really happy with how the class and party turned out. I also didn't hear any complaints from guests. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending 532 Yoga to host a party. read more

After my first class, I was eager to upgrade to a 10-class package. Suzanne is a great teacher, very open and attentive to the needs of her students. She is quick to adapt the practice to the varying physical limitations and skill levels in each class and offers gentle but helpful attention to each student. I always leave class feeling calm and happy. I'm a yoga newbie and just took my first class at 532Yoga. I was seriously hesitant to go as I truly have no idea what even the simplest downward dog is supposed to look like! Suzanne was AMAZING. I can happily say I've been to this studio several times. Each time I leave happy, full and satisfied- my soul is always fed. But, omg! I tried the Alignment Yoga class with the owner Suzanne...... it was out of this world. Suzanne delivered a product that was nothing short of amazing! I started coming to 532 yoga through a five class groupon. I've been a regular since! I've gone to a few workshops (a Kundalini multiweek workshop), and gone to a couple of different classes: Power Sculpt, Yoga Jam, Gentle/Restorative, and Slow, Stretchy, Delicious. The reason I started coming was the Slow, Stretchy, Delicious class. I LOVE this class. They offer this class a couple of times during the week (at multiple times), but I go to the one in the evening, typically with Ginny (but have also taken the class with Bri and Claudia - they are different than Ginny, but I love them too!!). Ginny is great - she pushes you, is warm, friendly, and an all around great instructor. I haven't gotten the chance to take a class with Suzanne (the owner) yet, but she's super responsive over email, welcomes feedback, and is very easy to interact with. read more
