This is the only place we will bring our dog. We've boarded and brought her to doggy care for the last few years. We started coming in April of 2023 when we needed a last minute place to board her for Easter weekend. What drew us to Zen Doggy Den is that we didn't have to pay extra for outdoor time which was a plus for boarding. We've boarded her a few times since then. But mostly for doggy daycare now. It's nice when there's something going on at the house like construction or anything like that. We can drop her off in the morning and then pick her up. She really enjoys her time there and seems like a happy pup. She's a senior dog so I think she just loves getting out of the house and getting to interact with others. What a great place to place your fur baby. We were traveling and had to attend a graduation and our hotel (Hilton Garden Inn in Arvada) recommended Zen Doggy Den. It was easy to sign up online at the last minute and have our Zoe stay a few hours while we were at our granddaughter's graduation at the Colorado School of Mines. Don't forget to submit a copy of your Rabies and DHPP certificate and provide the expiration dates as that is a requirement. My grand dog stays here when neither my daughter nor I can be home for a long day. He looks like a tough big dog but inside is quite anxious. This is the only place he has tried that he actually seems to feel safe. I think their set up where the dogs can see each other but are in their crate is the reason. Also the staff there really understands and loves dogs. They always seem to be having good day. I took my 9yr old retriever here over the 4th of July. I had requested they give him sedative medication's at 8:30 every night. My dog is very anxious when it comes to storms and fireworks. Despite the fact that we had been working with him and he had been seeing some improvement. When I came to pick him up, not only had they not given him his medicine on the Fourth of July but on none of the nights that he had been there. They have cameras and can see the dogs in their kennels but I don't know why they do because they didn't respond when they saw my dog in deep distress night after night. Or if they even saw him in distress at all. But when I picked him up on the 5th at noon he was still visibly shaking. The bottom line is when I picked him up he was emotionally, shattered, lost one toenail, one tooth and had wire burn marks across his nose, snout, and his paws were completely raw on the top and very bloody as well. They apologized deeply for not giving him his medication on any of the nights. The owner called me and was deeply sorry as well. She comped my stay, and I paid for all my vet bills as a result. I do feel that they were very sorry. However, they dropped the ball on so many paths to this issue that I feel they deserve a poor rating, and I feel the public deserves to be warned. Especially since as a result of all of this my dog is now more traumatized by the storms than ever before and I am still dealing with both his physical and emotional repercussions from this event. Sadly, I feel they failed at every opportunity to protect and care for my dog. I hope they all realize how important it is to listen and care for animals in the way they need care in the future. Their good intentions have got to be supported by good actions to be safe and trustworthy. read more

I've boarded my 9 month old with Zen Doggy Den on two different occasions totaling 10 days. I'm providing my experience here as it may be helpful to other first-timers. 1st Experience: As a nervous dog mom leaving her pup for the first time, I separated her meals out into daily AM and PM portions, described it to the staff member overseeing drop off and even labeled the bags. Intake was seamless and easy, they take the dog on a walk out the back door to ease anxiety, which I loved. During the 4 days she was at Zen Doggy Den no updates were provided unless we called to ask. It may have been my misunderstanding, but the portal they provide access to should've included daily updates? Picking my girl up from Boarding she was fresh and clean and happy as can be. When we arrived home I noticed that there was about 50% of her food left in her bag. I provided exact portions for each day + 1 scoop extra. My 9 month old dog received only half her daily allowance of food. I chocked this up to my own stupidity and prepared to only send 1 bag per day the next time we board. 2nd Experience: Drop off super straight forward and easy. This time I labeled bags for each day, but kept AM/PM portions together to ensure she was fed enough each day. This second boarding was over the Christmas holiday so my expectations for updates was not high. I discovered the FB group for Zen Doggy Den and joined to see how my girl was doing. There were no updates to the FB group between Dec 17-29 so joining was a bit pointless. Upon pick up, my girl was not smelling as fresh and clean as she did before. It was early in the day so she may have been bathed the day prior. Aftermath: Since boarding my dog at Zen Doggy Den I've been dealing with two issues: potty training regression and she's not eating her dog food that she's been on her whole life. I suspect this is occurring because dogs are not let out of their "rooms" enough and inevitably potty inside. My girl has been fully potty trained since 6 months old and has not had an accident inside until now. The weirdest thing is I work from home and let her out on an hourly basis and still experiencing inside potty accidents. The food thing has be puzzled though, upon return home I was left with two bags of food 1 day + extra. When my husband inquired about the food remaining they mentioned that she would fling the food out of her dish and not eat. I've never seen this behavior in my dog before or after boarding experience. She has lost about 4lbs since the first time boarding and needs to be coaxed into eating her own food. I suspect another dogs food was given to her, at least this is what I am hoping instead of food being withheld. Suggestions: Communicate with pet owners on a more frequent basis or ask the level of preferred communication for those parents who may be nervous. Increase staff so dogs can have more interactions, outside, and play time. Provide a facility tour for new Customers. Be proactive instead of reactive when a dog experiences an issue like not eating. I'd like to hear of it directly instead of discovering myself. read more

I'm reluctant to write this due to the caring nature of Julie and the team; but I think a number of aspects need to be improved / upgraded before it's a good fit for many of our pups. I should start by saying my dogs are in daycare at least 2 days a week and are boarded once or twice a month. I travel for a living and this is their fun party time escape from the house; to relax and play with their friends. The dogs were kennelled at 7 pm with no additional options to go out for a bathroom break. It's unrealistic to think that after eating at 6 that any dog could go for a full 12 hours until staff returns without need for a bathroom break. My 5 year old is incredibly well trained and ended up with marks on her nose from trying to get out of her crate to go to the bathroom. I was in tears when I came to pick her up. Again, she boards a couple nights, a couple times per month, and she's never experienced this. She doesn't have crate stress. She spent the first 8 months of her life being crate trained and, knows the crate as her home. She loves going to her crate during thunderstorms. I was heartbroken. The Zen team is investing in private spaces for the dogs. At the time of our two pup's boarding, they were in crates in a room together with the other boarding pups. You can imagine the stress this causes when other dogs are upset, may bark, or howl. The might be best for daycare but I cannot recommend for boarding until the facilities are upgraded. read more

I started taking my dog there this summer. The staff is knowledgeable and caring and my dog is happy to go in the morning and happy when I pick her up! Lots of options are provided for treats and grooming during the day. So far I've had 2 training sessions with Julie, the owner, and come away with confidence in how best to work with my dog and the best tools to use with her. Right now driving on Wadsworth near 44th is a hassle, but I have had any trouble entering and exiting the facility. So glad I found this place! read more

I highly recommend this establishment. I took my puppy here for doggy daycare and boarding. He stayed for 5 nights. They did everything I requested and I could tell my pup was happy and taken care of once I picked him up. There staff is very friendly and attentive, and they also provide basic services for your dogs while there such as nail trimmings and bathing etc. read more

Took our dogs here for a day of daycare as a test to try out the facility for boarding them in the future. They were recommended by a training facility near us in Parker. Cute facility and seemed very clean. Our dogs had a great time! One of our rescue dogs is quite timid and barks a lot out of fear around new people, he barely barked coming in as I could tell the employee was confident and experienced with dogs. I could tell he felt more comfortable right away compared to other daycares we have boarded at in the past. We look forward to boarding our dogs here in the future! The first time she was a little anxious walking in. I had a great experience with Zen Doggy Den. I have a 10 year old cattle dog and have never used a doggy day care program with her. Recently adopting a puppy I figured with this one (maybe because of his energy level) I would give day care a try. My dog Ty is a Covid-19 puppy so I was not sure how he would do socializing with other dogs. The staff was very comforting and assured me that they would introduce him slowly to other dogs. They sent me a report card midday which was definitely comforting for me as it was both my dog's and my first experience with doggy day care. I did not add on any training but I swear my pup came back behaving better. I really think he was able to get his energy out and that the socializing with other dogs was definitely beneficial. Finally found a day care for my rescue dog that is thoughtful and professional! Jackson has really come to life at zen, he has become much less reactive to dogs on walks and is just a happier less nervous dog in general since starting at zen. The thoughtful pairing of playmates and the fact that they are always supervised really puts my mind at ease. The staff and owner seem very nice but they lack any communication. You get no report on your dog after a day of daycare. More importantly, you get no info after boarding. They don't tell you if your dog ate, drank or pooped. When you confront them, it's met with defensiveness. I'll never take my dog there again. Huge disappointment. read more

Do not board your dog here. We boarded our 2 dogs for one night and are very upset. We picked them up at 10:30am the following morning and they had not been fed yet. We walked them outside and they both immediately peed (for a long time) and pooped, indicating they had not yet been let out. I called to ask if they had been let out and was told they had been let out an hour or hour and a half before and they wait with them outside until they go to the bathroom. I honestly believe this was a complete lie. Our dogs do not pee for 5 minutes if they were just let out. When we arrived at our house our dogs immediately guzzled water, which was surprising since I was told they had water in their kennels. I was also informed the dogs are placed into their kennels at 5pm the evening prior. Had I known that I would not have boarded my dogs there. 15 hours is a ridiculous amount of time to go without a bathroom break. I am extremely upset that we paid for our dogs to be in these conditions. read more

Julie really loves dogs and is able to get amazing training results! Her facility is clean and is a breath of fresh air in the neighborhood. I love that she is a trainer first and foremost, which helps me trust her and her team with the dogs. I've read other reviews about not wanting dogs in crates, but honestly my dogs are in crates all night at home and I feel like this makes them feel more at home than staying in a cold kennel. My girl actually runs to her crate anytime the thunderstorms hit, so it gives me peace of mind to know that she's in her "safe space" at night and helps us keep up with our training foundations.
