[UPDATED REVIEW: From 5 stars to 2] - I am wondering if I can get a refund for the $79 Yelp voucher I purchased. I do not want to go back after I redeem my voucher that was reluctantly given to me after a bad experience. Update 7/2/21: I should've waited a day to see Tom because I ended up with someone new, and I did not enjoy my message. I ended it 30 minutes early. I expected to be refunded half of the money, but I wasn't - I had to ask the manager for any condolences. They still made me tip $10 mandatorily and then did not offer any free voucher. I went back and told them I didn't enjoy my massage, and I had to ask if I could be credited for the half-hour to be redeemed later. They finally agreed, but they made me tip $10 on top of the $50 massage... when I did not want to tip a whopping 20 percent tip because I did not enjoy the massage at all. I would've tipped her $5 at most, which is already 10%. And now I have to come back and tip another $10 once I redeem my voucher for the other half-hour. I would not recommend the lady who massaged me today. She used too much massage oil and barely applied any pressure. I had to go home and immediately shower because she used 4-5 pumps of massage oil. Completely unnecessary. I did not get any relief at all. She just wiped my body up and down for 20 minutes. Not even 30 minutes until I asked her to stop. Like she didn't know what she was doing at all. The only person I will see is Tom from now on. Keep in mind: Tips are MANDATORY here. Doesn't matter if you didn't enjoy your massage. Hi manager, if you are reading this, please take the $10 I was forced to tip this person and apply it to my next massage with Tom. Or at least split the tip, so I don't have to pay $20 total in tips for such a messy experience. read more

Unless you want to be kneaded like raw bread dough, don't come here. My "massage"consisted of approx. 1 hour of over the towel kneading like dough. No lotion applied, just the friction of the crunchy towel over me. Finally, the oil arrived. With the amount oil poured on my back and arms, I thought I was prepping for a slip-n-slide competition or oil wrestling match for money. As my massage proceeded and my pores were getting clogged, my calf felt as if it got the happy ending we all so long for. After being greaser than Elvis' hair, it was time for the body scrub. I honestly didn't think I would have my tattoos when I opened my eyes. I was then instructed to go shower, as she lifted me up, wrapped my crunchy towel around me and I walked out to the hall of shame to the shower room. Stepping into the single person shower was like stepping into a lifted truck. Getting out was almost catastrophic, as its a jump to get down with barely any floor mat, which said mat was covered by another crunchy towel. As I reached for a towel dry, it was to my dismay the towel was the size of dish towel, and to no ones surprise it was crunchy. Instead of nice robes typically provided by spas, I was given the honor of a hospital grown as my attire. I opened the door with my new attire, thinking I might be greeted with a hospital hallway and an offering of fancy grippy socks. When reality stuck this was all real, I walked the hall of shame again, more than likely with a million microscopic abrasions from the tattoo removal attempt, I couldn't wait to leave. I cancelled the facial I had scheduled after the massage, as I didn't feel like having a visit from Hannibal Lector and I left. No happy ending here for me. Buyer beware. read more

Friendly staff. Nice rooms. The problem I have with this establishment is that they're taking advantage of people by giving less time during the massage. You have to pay attention to the amount of time that they give you a massage. When I booked my appointment I stated that I wanted a 30 minute microdermabrasion facial and an hour massage. The lady that did my massage and not realize I was timing everything she did. She gave me a 30 minute massage and a 25 minute facial. For some reason, I was very keen on checking the time that she started and finished each process. I was very disappointed and the fact that I received a basic facial and my time was cut and have for my massage, so I went back into the establishment after I left to complain. I was not given an apology. I was simply asked well what would you like for me to do regarding this issue? A partial refund would be nice I stated. I received 10.00 back, and paid 109. Which included 10.00 for heated rocks during my massage. I was told that was the best she could do and was told the manager was at the other location. I was not even given a receipt for the service I had received. So my advice to anyone reading reviews on places I would strongly advise that you to pay attention to the amount of time someone is giving you a massage that you're paying for. So I'm a college student and I thought that I would end my year off with a nice massage. I came about five minutes early and the receptionist was very kind and friendly. She had told me my massage person would be a man and I told her that I wanted a women and she was very accommodating. I waited about 10 minutes for the woman to come and then started the massage. My massage ended at 50 minutes when it was supposed to be an hour. Also, like another comment said, the lady was like "TIP" when I was leaving. I was going to leave a tip and was happy with everything until she said that. I gave have her 5 dollars since I don't have that much money as a student and she just frowned down at it and looked up expecting more. I would have given maybe a four if it weren't for that last interaction. Honestly, I wouldn't go back because of that. read more

Very responsive in scheduling. There was a deal that I was not aware of on Groupon and the scheduler made sure I was aware so I could take advantage of it and ultimately pay less. The masseuse was very responsive to feedback and ensured I was never uncomfortable (you need to be okay with some discomfort if you get a deep tissue massage). Overall great experience and would recommend. I will probably visit on a recurring basis given how much my muscle pain improved. read more

I have had so many massages in my life and my experience here felt wrong and inappropriate. My masseuse ripped down my bottoms and had my bare butt exposed until I reached up to cover it. I have never had a massage where that happens. They usually move the sheets around to make the customer feel comfortable. Not to mention my partners masseuse was a male and hovering over me as well. I asked my partner about her massage without telling her about mine to hear her response and immediately said she was uncomfortable and he was touching her excessively and inappropriately. My masseuses named were "Mike" and "Olivia". I am still coming to terms with how awful and traumatizing of an experience this was. Please beware of this location. I called in for a same day appointment for a 30 minute facial and 1 hour massage - I am so happy I came here! Jenny was very attentive to the areas I wanted to focus on (neck, shoulders, and lower back), and checked in with me if the pressure was okay - it was perfect. I feel rejuvenated coming out! The appointment is true to time (1.5 hours for me), and the massage continued during the facial so it seems like even more than 1 hour or massage as well, which is incredibly nice. I like other people also bought a Groupon for a couples massage at this place. What a mistake. Their management just changed so they made me ask Groupon for a refund and then repay them cash. Everyone was speaking a different language right in front of us, the 2 ladies doing our massage kept talking and laughing half of the time. One of them burped really loud minutes into the massage! Massage was done very aggressively and my back still hurts days after. I specifically asked for it to be a relaxing massage. Lady pressured us into upgrading to a 90m massage and they finished at barely 55 mins. Lady raised her voice when my husband didn't hear her say - Turn over! When they finished they just said- that's it, done! And left the room. Customer service is horrible and so is the massage. Never stepping foot in that place again. I purchased a Groupon from Zen Day Spa as a gift for someone. The appointment was booked shortly after purchase. When they arrived they were informed that they changed management and could not accept the Groupon. They could however purchase the service from them directly at a discount. Total scam!!! I was looking for a couples massage. Of course I read the reviews before going here. I kind of didn't know what to expect after reading the reviews. I booked the massage online and it was on a holiday day so I called to make sure they got my reservation, and they did. I also got a text confirmation a day before so I knew I was good to go. I showed up 15 minutes early. The place is clean and I was welcomed, along with my partner. We were shown into the couples room. Everything was totally fine with the 60 minute massage. We had zero issues. We were done and walked out of the room and I wasn't sure if I should just leave the cash on the two beds for the tip because I was not sure if a different person cleans the room. I walked up front and told the girl I wanted to tip both of the ladies and she said no problem and took my cash and said she would take it to them (one girl was up front getting us water so she saw the tipping taking place). We walk out and had a great rest of the day. I would return. My wife isn't a huge massage fan so it will be hard for me to get her back, not because of any issue with Zen, but she just isn't a fan of massages. I'll go back for a 60 minute and maybe even a foot massage. read more

Last week, I went there to do physical exercise for an hour. Their service was very good, and I felt relaxed after finishing it.

I went there to get a 90 minute full body massage. It was a horrible experience. I usually dont write reviews or do anything of this sort but I just wasted my money on that "massage". For 90 mins, she just kept on rubbing my back back and forth until it was raw. No massaging through the muscle or anything. And then she left for almost 20 mins in the middle of the massage to get a "towel" so basically i had less than a 90 min massage. Another was the complete inappropriateness and aggressiveness of the masseuse. She multiple times was so aggressive hitting my head with the towel trying to "fix" it. Another was her pulling down my bottoms multiple times and also aggressively fixing the blanket making me suffer from slips here and there. I felt like it was so inappropriate. After that, they wouldn't let me leave until i gave a tip. When I finally did, she wasn't satisfied with the amount i gave and gave a scoff and rolled her eyes. Wanted to get a last minute facial and this was the only place that was open so I decided to try it out. I wanted an acne facial but it turns out that this is more of just a relaxing facial/massage. I was confused because there was only a dim lit light in the room so there was no way she could see my face. ****BIZARRE EXPERIENCE ****First time getting a massage ever. Appointment was scheduled for me by my friend for my birthday. Wasn't sure what to expect. Get undressed and under the sheet, waited a little bit. "Massage Therapist" comes in; no introduction, no run down as to what was going to happen, just begins roughly handling me over the sheet and then more than once proceeds to straddle the back of my head so that basically her vulva is on the back of my head/neck while working on my back. My anxiety at this point is through the roof and I'm uncomfortable for the whole appointment. Like what the hell was I even supposed to say?!? Took my gf to Zen Day Spa in Davis for our anniversary & because she had never had a massage & facial before. I didn't want to take her to a chain massage place. I saw that they had a Groupon & so I called. The man who answered the phone told me to bring cash & that they would honor the Groupon rate. We were running a little late coming from Sacramento & I informed them of that. They were accomodating. When we got there they wanted to be paid up front which was kind of awkward & different then other massages I have had but okay we paid. They took us in the backroom. The massages were okay. The man that did the massages was kind of rough but I needed it. Wish they would have spent more time on shoulders. Not sure what the lady put on my face for the facial but my face felt filmy & weird after. When my gf got her facial the lady pulled out & lost her nose ring which she now has to get repierced. Not only that but after the massage was over we were planning on tipping & before we could give it to the actual people who gave the massages there was a man with a language barrier at the front desk saying "tip tip tip" like he wanted us to give him the tip. It was super strange, awkward & unprofessional. He kept asking for more money which I think is very rude & left a bad taste in our mouth. For one the tips should go to the people who did the work & two you don't get to tell someone how much to tip. I found that super rude & I never do Yelp reviews but that interaction inspired me to make one. Definitely left a bad taste in our mouths & won't be coming back there again. $160 wasted & wasted time of our lives that we can't get back. I got the deluxe package as a gift and ended up getting the full body massage, reflexology foot massage, and body scrub. All 3 were amazing especially the body scrub and foot massage. My masseuse was very professional and sweet and explained everything she was doing. I was a little anxious after reading some of these negative reviews, but the whole experience was nothing but great and I left feeling refreshed. Will definitely be back! read more

I wish I could put no stars. Not only did the massage not make me feel relaxed, but the whole time I was so tense because the guy kept making weird heavy breathing sounds. I also saw someone also made a comment about how they stand at the start of the bed where your head is in order to rub your back, and you can feel their "parts" touching your head, which was very uncomfortable and I kept scooting down so I could stop that from happening. The whole time we did not talk a word which is what is the norm in a massage appointment, but towards the end, as I turned over, the masseuse out of the blue said "do you miss your boyfriend?" I was so shocked that I just said "what?!" I became so uncomfortable and just wanted to leave as soon as possible. When I got dressed to leave the guy who massaged me wasn't by the door, but ran to the door when he saw me leaving and stood there, meaning that he was expecting a tip, I felt pressured to tip him, and so I did. My husband had a facial and I was in the room to observe. I'm very particular when it comes to cleanliness and sanitation and Zen Day Spa in Davis didn't have that. The room looks old, not so comforting in comparison to other massage spa's I've been to and my husband mentioned that the facial cream they used did not have a good scent. Also She used the same water and face towel to wipe my husbands face several times....and to top it off, before leaving, I had the reception change my money for tip. She thought I wasn't going to tip...She had the nerve to ask if I'm giving a tip! And I said of course I am that's why I asked for change. They were nice but didn't have the proper equipment, cleanliness, sanitation, etiquette, nor spoke English. Only the two receptionist spoke English. Will never go back there again. I was there Monday, April 25th. I had the worst experience! I had a male, I don't even want to call him a massage therapist. What he gave me was not a massage! He had dry hands and long fingernails which kept scratching me. He gave me Indian burn on my back by repeatedly using his arm to rub across my back, back and forth ... up and down. Then gave me Indian burn on the side of my body by repetitively moving his dry hands up and down my sides. It wasn't a full body massage, it felt more like a full body sexual assault! Read Groupon reviews and you'll see I'm not the first person whom have felt this way. I was so shocked, I didn't know what to do. I wanted to scream but at what point? I'm asking myself, should I scream? Am I overreacting? This is different from my other massages but is it justifiable to cause a scene? Would anyone believe I was sexually harassed? I've had many massages before. Past massages consisted of kneading the muscles. Not rubbing your body repetitively until it burns. And not accidentally going close to your private areas. He also kept speaking Chinese to the female working on my friend. She doesn't verbally respond to him so I have no idea what's being said. Like, I'm face down, feeling vulnerable because I'm getting Indian burns, and being touched inappropriately, but all I could hear is a language I don't understand.
