Update review: I saw Phi Lan for a few months to treat my migraines. I was having them 1-2 times per week, and could be debilitating, depending on how severe they were. After the course of treatment, I now only get them maybe once a month or two! A HUGE improvement if you ask me. One particular treatment where I had an active migraine, I could literally feel the pain leave my head as she moved the needles down to transition their flow (prickly sensation) to my feet- it was WILD. Not only did she help reduce my head pain and frequency significantly, but she always presented a very warm and welcoming environment. I'm not entirely a fan of needles, but she eased me into it, and ensured I was comfortable thru out the process (the heated bed helps). She always asked how each needle felt, if it needed more or less pressure, and offered to check in on me halfway thru the treatment. She also did some cupping, which was new to me, and help ease the tension coming down my neck and shoulders. Front desk staff are nice too, they remember you after a few treatments. I wanted to try acupuncture for the first time as a way to relieve stress and help my migraine pain. At first, I was a bit nervous at the thought of many needles going into my body and wasn't sure if it was even gonna work. Phi-Lan made me feel very welcome and reassured me that it'll be great. She was totally right! After the first session, I started to enjoy the feeling of the needles as it tingled and felt like energy was released in some way. After all the needles are in, she leaves you in the room with the only goal of complete relaxation. As I lay face down with the needles in my body, the sound of waves and calming music play in the background as I reach a state of nirvana. Mind you, my neck and shoulders are very tense and will take many sessions to release years of stress and poor posture. However, in the few hour-long sessions I did have, I went into a psychedelic hypnosis where my third eye began opening. I imagine it's similar to what LSD would feel like where there are nice colors and someone playing music on the beach. I have been going to Zen Attitude Acupuncture for a few months now, as part of my New Year's resolution to take care of myself. I am a mom of 2, working a full-time job and coaching youth basketball, so it's hard to find time to actually take care of myself. I was looking for self care places that accept HMSA insurance because we have all these health insurance benefits that we've never tapped in to. I was super nervous going in because I'm extremely afraid of needles and shots. Phi Lan is attentive and works off of your comfort level. She started me off with very mild treatments. I feel so relaxed after a treatment and we've slowly been working on issues that I have suffered from for years (headaches, insomnia, anxiety and vertigo). The office is very clean, and although the building is next to a very busy intersection, the acupuncture room is hidden from all the street noise. I went to see Phi in July 2025 for my hip and carpal tunnel. Before seeing Phi I went to an orthopedist for my carpal tunnel and according to her I have "the real deal" and she recommended surgery. I didn't want to do surgery because it would require to miss time off of work which I couldn't do. So I went to see Phi at Zen attitude. Since seeing her my carpal tunnel problems have minimized and I can sleep better at night. My hip also feels better. This place is such a zen gem in the city of Honolulu. Staff is soo friendly and welcoming. The space offers amazing views that enhances the relaxing atmosphere. This particular treatment was special because I asked Phi Lan for help with grieving and emotional support. Acupuncture has made the biggest and fastest improvement for my lower back pain, leg numbness and tingling (neuropathy) and sciatica pain over anything else I have ever tried like chiropractic or massage which helps, but not like acupuncture.
