Well, new rule: never order the hot dog at a burger joint. They have one hot dog on the menu and it could feed three of me, no problem. It's huge with a huge bun, but ultimately it left me full but flat. Nothing special. My son had the Inskip burger and it was everything he hoped for. So, lesson learned: enjoy the burgers, avoid the hot dog.

They give me the authentic Chicago hot dog joint, just on the far, far, far Southside. The Chicago hot dog was authentic. Not only do they use Vienna Beef hot dogs but they use Vienna Beef poppyseed buns. That is truly legit. Also had the Italian Beef. It was good, not great, but very good. We also had an order of breaded mushrooms and onion rings. Both hit the spot. The onion rings were probably higher rated, and according to the fellas who work there, they are beer battered. And thank God they don't try to force ranch dipping with these like other spots do. Ketchup is the appropriate dipping for both shrooms and rings. Highly recommend them, will be going back. A lot.

The place is filthy, obviously horribly mismanaged. I tried to call three times and was sent to voicemail. I drove back and the doors were locked since it was almost 0100. I had to wait another 20 minutes in the drive thru. I explained this and asked for an entirely new order since we just spent 20 dollars and my wife's food was now cold. He interrupted me at the speaker and told he could only make the one burrito that was wrong regardless of the now cold food we were holding. I insisted this is insane and no other food chain has ever messed up my order and refused to remake it if they dont answer their phone and make me wait again through the drive thru. So I then asked for a refund since the entire order couldn't be remade and they also refused and told us that online orders cant be refunded. So i said okay and took the one burrito they remade. I got home to find it was incorrect AGAIN. I've worked fast food and i understand how awful people can be but this is the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

My order was UberEats. So, I cannot comment on the restaurant experience or ambiance. But, as far as food goes, I put this in the average category. If you happen to be near there and want this style of food (and nothing better is around), it's passable. But, it doesn't reach the great category and it is not as good as CAVA (which seems very similar). Overall: Worth a try. But, don't rush out to it. I recommend they improve the quality of the meats and have better portions if someone orders the roast eggplant.

SmashCity wasn't far off of the interstate, it had good ratings and although we'd been eating burgers and fries quite a bit on this roadtrip, a good burger and fries really sounded good. All of the reviews were right on - this was absolutely NOT fast food - it was fast, really fast, but the speed was just bonus. As we usually do, we split. We chose the Carolina BBQ smash. The burgers were juicy - if you're not careful, I guarantee you'll be wearing it. Two critiques, it definitely needed more sauce - I just added some of the SmashCity sauce from our fries and it worked but I really would have liked to have had more BBQ sauce. Second, the fried onions were quite burned. I pulled off most of them. The hand cut fries were piping hot, just the right amount of greasy and seasoned perfectly. Splitting the burger was a good call - I'd never have eaten the whole thing myself. The burger and fries were just over $20. When you consider a Big Mac meal at that clown place is $14, SmashCity is almost a bargain. Paul, the owner was like the energizer bunny - he was everywhere at once. Personality oozed from his pores. Make sure you tell him Sue said hi! (He won't remember me but just say hi anyway!) Now I wouldn't say SmashCity has the best burgers - that award goes to our friend Jerry. He makes a pretty mean smash burger on the blackstone. If you have an extra half hour, skip the fast food burger joints, get off that highway, and go let Paul fill your belly for the rest of your trip! You'll appreciate it!
