They say everywhere to check your order, and to be fair, I didn't, but I also think to get 5 stars, you should be getting orders right. Zareens Mountain View is basically a to-go place with nothing much to talk about ambience. There is some informal outdoor seating but you basically get to eat in your to-go container. Probably the Desi in me still loves the steel plates and the serving style at the Palo Alto location. But food is still finger licking awesome! I had high expectations for Zareen's, having heard nothing but enthusiastic praise for it. We chose the Mountain View location thinking they were all the same, but were surprised to find a hole in the wall with no indoor seating at all. The interior only had a pick up counter and convenient little kiosk for ordering. They did have a small outdoor seating area by the sushi restaurant next door, but honestly it wasn't very cute. It was just a few picnic tables in the dirt, so the ambiance was unfortunately lacking. That being said, I did enjoy the food! I got the Chicken Tikka Masala Ala Carte, and it was very solid - flavorful tomato-cream curry and well cooked chicken. I also really appreciated this dish being gluten free, which it often isn't! The portion size was very reasonable and left me full but not uncomfortably stuffed. My friends all enjoyed their food as well, including the Paneer Tikka Masala Ala Carte. Then, on the day of our event when my friends go to collect the order they say there's no food ready and they don't even know about our order or any payment made! This location is to-go only with a couple tables / picnic benches outside and ordering is done on an iPad. I went for a late lunch on a Saturday around 1PM and the inside of the store was packed with people. The wait for food can get rather long and my impression overall was that this can be a 4 or 5 star experience depending on what you order. Chicken Tikka Masala (4.25/5): A delicious rendition of chicken tikka masala. The chicken actually has a char flavor and the curry is super creamy, just all around solid. Crispy Chicken Tikka Sandwich (4.5/5): This was surprisingly incredible. The chicken itself is spiced super fragrantly and it doesn't get lost in the sandwich at all. Although the chicken could have been a little more tender, the chutney was also a perfectly light addition to the dish. Additionally, the masala fries are super dusted, just the way you want them to be. Sabri Beef Nihari (3.75/5): The beef shank was very tender, which was impressive and it was very savory, but not spicy at all. This is one of my favorite fast casual restaurants in the Bay Area. Not only is this Indian food amazing, but somehow it manages to be well priced, authentic, and have quick service. You really can't go wrong here, but I recommend getting a Combo Thalis - that way you get a little bit of everything. Of course the Tikka Masala is a must-get, but I also really love the Lamb Gosht Thali. The mango lassis are very fun if you're feeling a sweet drink on the side. Don't forget to order a side of naan. My favorite is the garlic naan, but tandoori naan is an authentic, less fluffy bread that's also good. Aloo Tikki - Potato Cutlet: This reminded me of a potato pancake, small little circles that come with a mint chutney sauce and red onions. These were the least favorite of all the dishes. Chicken Tikka Masala - A la carte: This was pretty good, not too watery and had some substance with great spices but few pieces of chicken did have bone in. Naan: They only have plain naan and no other options for naan but it is nice and fluffy/doughey. Crispy Chicken Tikka Sandwhich: A huge piece of fried chicken with awesome spices. Highlight of the dish was definitely the chicken curry, which was so flavorful and delicious! Chicken was tender, juicy, and incredibly tasty with the curry sauce. The lentils also paired really well with the rice, while the other veggies provided a refreshing touch to the meal. As many others note, this spot is take-out only, but hot damn is this food seriously good. They tout their Michelin rating for their main restaurant, but the reputation is well deserved. Ordering online and pickup was a painless process, and the food was spot on for texture and flavor. My brother and I was were just blown away. He also needed to get boba tea after cause it was also seriously spicy too, but in his eyes it was worth either way. Parking wasn't a problem as they have a dedicated lot. Even from opening there was plenty of traffic from people picking stuff up from them, so I can see it getting busy. Seating is outdoor only (self-serve), but they have a good amount of it as it's the small tables on the row and then a bit more out closer to the street next to the sushi joint, so there's a good amount of room if you want to eat on-site. ==Lamb Gosht Thali [5/5]== Very nicely balanced combo meal that comes with a bit of everything and a nice serving of their lamb stew. I opted for the naan and it was quite delicious, albeit different in style than most other spots I've tried (denser in feel, much more moist and buttery). The thali came with a chickpea salad, a lentil daal, mint chutney, which all complemented the meal very well and all quite fresh. The lamb stew was lovingly tender and very flavorful (not to mention spicy); noting it is a bit stronger on cinnamon notes, but that might've just been cause I got a piece of bark in my scoop. Portion-wise this was just right to give a nice spread of flavors, but not overwhelm you in any particular way. ==Beef Chapli Burger + fries [5/5]== Get the fries side and you won't regret it. Comes with a little chutney mix. I was a bit skeptical about an Indian-style burger, but even if it's quite far from a traditional burger it is still absolutely delicious. Wonderfully spiced and served as a traditional burger would be in terms of toppings. It's not the kind of spot you'd get if you want to taste just pure beefiness, but more of a strongly seasoned beef meatball type deal (with lettuce and onions). The cheese added a nice layer umami to it on top and would definitely recommend it. The fries are worth mentioning just by themselves; absolutely perfect fry in terms of crisp and aroma, then throw on top a lovely south-asian spice mix. Masala fries indeed. My takeway from this experience is that I need to try more of their food! Definitely will need to give their full service locations a try next time I'm further up the bay. read more

A solid place to try for lunch or dinner anytime!! We are hooked on Zareen's and have loved their menu items we have tried so far. My husband absolutely loves their fried chicken sandwich!! Too bad they don't sell it at all their locations!! Not sure why?! I enjoy the Sabri beef Nihari, it is always stewed to perfection, soft beef with amazing complex and tasty flavor. We have tried their chicken tikka and lamb gosht as well and everything is always tasty. The basmati rice flavor is great with long grain rice. This place is really good. Had a great experience at their other location so I tried this one today. My only issue is I ordered chicken Tikka masala, and a side of Madras curry sauce since I saw that option on door dash, and they tasted exactly the same. Reviews say they taste similar w different spices, but the only difference I tasted was without the smokiness of the chicken in the Madras so either I can't tell different curries apart or they gave me the wrong order. Interestingly, this location doesn't have the same selection of bread or at least in the menu today. Only plain naan, no garlic and no jalapeno cheese naan. Still fluffy. The paratha was a bit stiff, would stick with the naan for the price. The chicken Tikka masala was super good, their chicken has that really nice cooked grilled taste to it. First time visit to Zareen's. I picked up an order for my wife - the Crispy Zinger Chicken Burger with fries, and dropped it off to her work. She texted me that it was really yummy! So, Being a bit hungry myself I returned and ordered the Punjabi Chicken Burger with fries. If you like Indian food and if you like chicken sandwiches, combine the flavors with a chicken burger and you get a whole new taste that is inventive and tasty! But what I can't believe is that after pickup, I got stuck in traffic, and took me a half hour to get home. Disappointed that my fries probably got cold and soggy, I was shocked to find that, though cold, the fries still had that crispiness, unlike those of popular fast food places. How they achieved this, I do not know, but Mickey D's could take some notes here! The pickup was quick and the staff were courteous. Though there is plenty of seating outdoors shared with restaurants next door. Everything came out in takeout containers. It makes sense because this location is catered more towards working professionals nearby, making it an easy, convenient lunch option. We ordered the Lamb Gosht Thali (it has a kick but not incredibly spicy) and the Palak Methi Aloo Thali. Both were delicious. Please note: this location does NOT have the HALWA PURI. Their burgers are full of flavor with a variety of options. The chicken sizzler, fries, gola kebab, and paratha are one of a kind with amazing tastes and flavorful ingredients. My personal favorite is their sheermal, which has just the right amount of sweetness and flavor. The buttery and slightly flaky texture adds to the delicious dish. The sheermal has just the perfect sweet taste that goes very well with the amazing spicy kebabs. It was a sunny day and although they had plenty of outdoor dining, all the tables were taken so we opted to seat inside since there was plenty of seating. They have a QR code on their menu to scan and order so I did that, but I didn't realize that ordering via the link actually defaults to a takeout order. To eat inside, they actually have an iPad where you can place your order. I ordered a chicken tikka masala thali and the order was ready relatively quickly. The portions were alright, and I was able to finish it (I eat relatively light for lunch) but the tikka masala was good and flavorful. Came with a group of friends, was my first time here. Very busy restaurant-you order, they give you a number, you find a seat, they bring it out to you. My friend recommended the chicken tikka masala, and the waitress recommended getting the combo set, which comes with leafy greens salad, some sort of lentil dip, and pickled salad. The tikka masala was very creamy and rich, which paired very well with the naan. The other sides balanced out the richness and provided a variety of flavors that left me feeling satisfied and refreshed.
