It was okay. I do have some thoughts which i will share below. Service: 10/10. We were the only ones there so the man at the counter was quick with our requests and food came out fast. Anything he needed he got for us and was very nice! They also have a self service station which is convenient. Food quality: 5/10 I've had better indian food in the bay. The seekh kebab wrap was okay...I thought thr naan was a little too hard and the kebabs were slightly overdone and not moist. Chaat cafe has the best seekh kebab wrap I've ever had. Biryani tasted mostly like a pulao and the chicken was slightly underdone. The nehari was good, but it was on the oilier side and I've been more impressed with it at other indian resturants. The seekh kebab dish was also okay - but as with the wrap, it was overdone and not moist. Saag paneer was ok too - personally too oily for my liking. Side of naan tasted not fresh and got hard very quickly. Chai was very watered down and the sweet chutney was also very watered down. They also charge for raita which should be included with the biryani. Ambience 8/10 - just an average looking place nothing special. Overall, the place is just....ok. 4 of us came in craving Nihari and boy we were disappointed. Nihari was light brown, watery, and the meat was tough. We also ordered Chicken Biryani. It tasted like Chicken pulao and the rice was not cooked all the way. Haleem was decent. When we mentioned it to the server, he said "Oh!" And walked away. Parking gets challenging here during lunch time due to so many good eateries in one square on north first street. There are many spots but yes keep 5 minutes for parking. There is no outdoor seating and no welcoming staff. This is a fully self service sit down restaurant which has more takeout orders than people sitting inside. While the online forums talk about a lunch buffet, we didn't see any. In $36 (after tip), we got: - chicken seekh kebab - 5/5 - loved the fresh grilling, char and marination. It was flavorful and my favorite item on the table. We ordered 2 portions (1 pc is 1 portion) - palak paneer - 4/5 - loved the quantity of palak (spinach) and its not too greasy - plain naan - 3/5 - came hot out from the tandoor and tasted great. I wish they offered some white butter on side with it - parantha - 5/5 - hidden menu and loved the huge portion size, perfect crispiness and tenderly soft to chew!! - chai - 4/5 - complimentary masala chai was readily available next to the utensils and napkins. Weirdly, if u order chai that you want to come to your table and served by server then its $3 :p Deducting stars for ambiance, cleanliness and service. My favorite Indian curry is brain masala and I have been on the hunt for another location that serves this dish. Tips/ - do not go during the lunch rush; it seems the majority of folks who park head to dish n dash (and it seems as if nobody knows how to drive or is considerate like I waited for a car to back out but he wouldn't and when I left aka stopped waiting, he left and gave me the finger...) - call to order takeout, not online (save some $$) - takeout was stated as approximately 15 minutes and I appreciate it was still very hot upon receiving as I was late for pickup - I appreciate they did not charge for the bag or the containers - went during the lunch rush with a few tables seated and not very busy I ordered: 1) brain masala - I tried eating this in the car because I was super hungry but all I was able to consume was the oil.... (via dipping with naan) - huge layer of oil (I went home and the oil completely filled a plate) - nice chunks of brain - I appreciate the added toppings of cilantro and jalapeños 2) combo 8 - goat, chana, beef kabob, plain rice and plain naan - I rated this place "highly" because for the first time I have ever seen in a non veg combo... there's no poultry! (I don't consume poultry) so MAJOR BROWNIE POINTS (thank you!!!). I also called to make sure there's no poultry in this combo because I couldn't believe it. - I hate how the container isn't the greatest because the rice was soaked in the curry 3) aloo naan, upwards of $4 - first time actually able to try potato in naan (many places I've tried seem to never have it even though it's on the menu) - I love potatoes in curries and this curved the desire for a potato curry - worth it? Eh. Overall, all three curries tasted exactly the same and I wouldn't be surprised if all three utilized the same base. It makes me curious if other curries on the menu will taste the same too. Ambience: - your typical quick bite Indian restaurant - very mom and pop vibe - quick lunch - looks as if there's a buffet setup but wasn't happening today - no obvious signs of chai out in the open - kind of dark and not very welcoming Service: - nonexistent - no "thank yous" - told you to pick up your order yourself/would not hand you the bag (that's placed on the buffet setup) Parking and Location: - as can be seen in my photo, people park in places that you shouldn't and aren't even allowed to park demonstrating that there's a lack of parking - it's a small plaza with multiple eateries - parking spaces are extremely small and tight - there are a bunch of trees and shade which I greatly appreciate Likely won't come back but I'm pleased to have tried a new place that offers brain masala! read more

Poor service and below average food. The rice and bread portions were huge to the level of wasting and not enough curry to accompany that portion. It disheartens me to say, most of the rice and bread remain untouched when the party of 6 on my table couldn't finish their portions. I wouldn't go back. The food here is delicious! The Kadhai chicken was floating in oil but tasted very authentic. You can ask for less oily and less spicy, you will love it! The chicken seekh kebab was decent. The samosas were okay. Daal was good! We tried their kheer in the end and it was delicious, very decadent. In terms of the breads, tandoori naan and roti were fresh and hit the spot. Lahori Restaurant in downtown San Jose has always been our go-to place, so we decided to try their North San Jose branch for the first time. We ordered Halwa Puri, a wrap, chicken biryani, nihari, and naans -- the total was around $70. Halwa Puri was fresh and tasty; the chana and halwa were flavorful, and the pickles made up for the mild aloo bhujia. The biryani had enough masala but half of the rice was undercooked and seemed added later. The nihari lacked spices and tasted like a lukewarm beef soup. Naans were okay but slightly burnt. The restaurant doesn't have many tables and can get quite crowded, especially during Eid. Parking in the plaza is sufficient. However, they really need to improve their spice level and make sure dishes are cooked properly. Tables weren't cleaned promptly, though the complimentary tea was fresh. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and we couldn't enjoy the nihari or biryani. read more

Been coming here years the food is always unbelievable. Dropped by today with the family for a birthday dinner and Vivek really took care of us. He went the extra mile with his presentation, communication of orders, making my Father's Day taking pictures of us and providing treats to the kids. Love how this place is consistent with their food, they cook it just right not rushed not overdone, tandoori done right. Came across this place for dinner, and the food was definitely above our expectations. We stopped by since we noticed it was newly opened and we wanted to try something new. I liked how everything is casual and self-service as you order from the kiosk, and you can self-serve to plates, utensils, sauces, etc. The food also seemed really authentic. We got the lamb chops, which was seasoned perfectly but it was slightly overcooked. We got a goat curry dish which was delicious as it had a slight spiciness to it. The meat was also super soft and it melted in your mouth. We also got the beef kebab, which was my favorite. For $4.99 the kebab was pretty big and filling. I highly recommend eating with the orange sauce which is in the fridge. Just discovered this second location. I'm a fan of the original on Santa Clara St. The food here is the same but they have great combo options at this location that aren't available at the original. As a vegan, the Lahori Chana is what keeps me coming back. It has a delicious, extremely rich flavor that's distinct from any other Indian/Pakistani chickpea dish I've had. Every time I have been to either location I am the only customer who is not South Asian, which seems to corroborate that this is good authentic food. read more

Food is served so fresh! The butter chicken is amazing. Food is *not* heavy like other restaurants that will make you feel bloated.

Food was horrible the samosa was hard as a rock. The byrani rice tasted like it was cooked then repeated a bunch of times! The beans were good but what ever was served as a side order it was horrible. The Naan bread was good. Pricing a bit expensive for what was served.
