Brain masala
Megan C.

My favorite Indian curry is brain masala and I have been on the hunt for another location that serves this dish. Tips/ - do not go during the lunch rush; it seems the majority of folks who park head to dish n dash (and it seems as if nobody knows how to drive or is considerate like I waited for a car to back out but he wouldn't and when I left aka stopped waiting, he left and gave me the finger...) - call to order takeout, not online (save some $$) - takeout was stated as approximately 15 minutes and I appreciate it was still very hot upon receiving as I was late for pickup - I appreciate they did not charge for the bag or the containers - went during the lunch rush with a few tables seated and not very busy I ordered: 1) brain masala - I tried eating this in the car because I was super hungry but all I was able to consume was the oil.... (via dipping with naan) - huge layer of oil (I went home and the oil completely filled a plate) - nice chunks of brain - I appreciate the added toppings of cilantro and jalapeños 2) combo 8 - goat, chana, beef kabob, plain rice and plain naan - I rated this place "highly" because for the first time I have ever seen in a non veg combo... there's no poultry! (I don't consume poultry) so MAJOR BROWNIE POINTS (thank you!!!). I also called to make sure there's no poultry in this combo because I couldn't believe it. - I hate how the container isn't the greatest because the rice was soaked in the curry 3) aloo naan, upwards of $4 - first time actually able to try potato in naan (many places I've tried seem to never have it even though it's on the menu) - I love potatoes in curries and this curved the desire for a potato curry - worth it? Eh. Overall, all three curries tasted exactly the same and I wouldn't be surprised if all three utilized the same base. It makes me curious if other curries on the menu will taste the same too. Ambience: - your typical quick bite Indian restaurant - very mom and pop vibe - quick lunch - looks as if there's a buffet setup but wasn't happening today - no obvious signs of chai out in the open - kind of dark and not very welcoming Service: - nonexistent - no "thank yous" - told you to pick up your order yourself/would not hand you the bag (that's placed on the buffet setup) Parking and Location: - as can be seen in my photo, people park in places that you shouldn't and aren't even allowed to park demonstrating that there's a lack of parking - it's a small plaza with multiple eateries - parking spaces are extremely small and tight - there are a bunch of trees and shade which I greatly appreciate Likely won't come back but I'm pleased to have tried a new place that offers brain masala!

The food here is delicious! The Kadhai chicken was floating in oil but tasted very authentic. You can ask for less oily and less spicy, you will love it! The chicken seekh kebab was decent. The samosas were okay. Daal was good! We tried their kheer in the end and it was delicious, very decadent. In terms of the breads, tandoori naan and roti were fresh and hit the spot. It's fully self service and ambience is just like any other desi restaurant.

I had the pleasure of dining at Lahori, an Indian & Pakistani restaurant located on North First Street in San Jose, near PayPal and the San Jose airport. From the moment I walked in, I could sense the warm, family-owned atmosphere that permeated the restaurant. Lahori offers an exceptional dining experience that combines affordability with high-quality food and generous portions. The menu boasts a diverse selection of Indian and Pakistani dishes that cater to a variety of tastes. Whether you're a fan of spicy curries, tandoori specialties, or vegetarian delights, you'll find something to satisfy your cravings. The quality of the food at Lahori truly stands out. Each dish is prepared with care and authenticity, delivering an explosion of flavors that transport your taste buds to the heart of the Indian subcontinent. The spice levels are customizable to suit your preference, ensuring that everyone can enjoy a meal here. What truly sets Lahori apart is their commitment to offering generous portions without compromising on taste. Whether you're dining alone or with a group, you'll leave with a satisfied appetite and perhaps even some leftovers to enjoy later. The staff at Lahori are incredibly friendly and attentive, adding to the overall pleasant dining experience. You can feel the passion they have for their cuisine and their dedication to making your visit memorable. In a city known for its diverse culinary scene, Lahori is a hidden gem that delivers on its promise of affordability, quality, and quantity. I highly recommend this family-owned establishment to anyone in search of authentic Indian and Pakistani cuisine in the San Jose area. It's a true testament to the rich and flavorful traditions of South Asian cooking. Did I mention TEA was FREE

Overall pretty good food -- as far as I've seen from other reviews, it's pretty authentic too

There was plenty of outdoor seating, and the service was speedy. You order on a kiosk, which makes for a streamlined ordering process. The food is always solid - I love all of their thali selections. This location was much more peaceful compared to the Palo Alto location. I stopped by on a Saturday evening, and there were only a couple tables that were occupied. I will say I feel like the portion sizes here are noticeably smaller than those at the Palo Alto location. This might be because all of the orders are packed to-go, so maybe there's less space for food? For instance, the thali from the Palo Alto location includes a side salad, which was not included in my order here. The other sides (pickled salad and daal lentil), along with the entree, were also significantly smaller here. The prices are the same, so I do think the Palo Alto dishes are more worth it.

The place is spacious and clean, and somehow has an American diner feel to it. The menu is limited but interesting, with the meat clearly being the main focus. It was fantastic: a crispy potato patty inside a soft bun with a spicy sauce. I went all out on the meat just by myself. I tried the Signature Chicken Tikka Roll (spicy), the Chicken Tikka (Bihari) leg, and the Chicken Gola Kebab. Everything was excellent. The gola kebab is melt-in-your-mouth soft. The roll was tasty, but pretty oily, so next time I will probably just go with naan. The Bihari chicken tikka was also unique, garlic-forward but delicious. The service was relatively quick. Highly recommend if you want to try something different from the usual Indian food at most places, but just as authentic and legitimately tasty.

It's a small, no-frills place with a very basic setup--but honestly, the food is what truly matters here. We ordered chicken seekh kabab, chicken tandoori, chicken kadhai, along with garlic naan and butter rotis. The chicken seekh kababs were juicy, but they had a very strong and slightly off-putting turmeric flavor. It felt like there was a bit too much turmeric, which overpowered the other spices and slightly ruined the overall taste for me. However, the chicken tandoori completely made up for it. It was juicy, spicy, and perfectly charred--exactly how a good tandoori should be. The highlight for me was the chicken kadhai. Usually, I find chicken kadhai to be too tomato-heavy and overly tangy for my liking, but this one was perfectly balanced. The flavors were rich without being overpowering, and paired with the soft garlic naan and fresh tandoori roti, it was an absolute delight. Overall, we enjoyed our visit. Despite the simple ambience, the quality of the food shines through. We'll definitely be going back to try more dishes from the menu.
