The cover charge itself was not the issue. What bothered me was how I was treated. During the interaction, the bouncer physically pushed me away from the entrance. I found that completely unnecessary and disrespectful. As a result, I asked to speak with the owner or someone from management because I did not feel comfortable discussing the situation with the bouncer, especially given how I had been treated. To my surprise, I was told that the owners had asked me to Zelle the cover charge. To be clear, I was never asking for a discount, exemption, or special treatment. I was simply trying to address the way I had been treated at the door and have a conversation with management. Over the years, I have spent a considerable amount of time and money at this establishment and have actively supported it by bringing many guests. I never expected preferential treatment because of that. What I do expect, however, is to be treated with basic respect and dignity. This review is not about the food, hookah, ambiance, or service inside the lounge, all of which I have genuinely enjoyed for years. It is about a customer experience and the choices made by management in handling that situation. A long-time customer who has consistently supported the business should not be made to feel dismissed or disrespected. I thought about this for more than ten days before posting because I genuinely enjoyed this place and did not want to leave a negative review. However, the experience stayed with me. Since then, I have stayed away despite having been a regular visitor. I sincerely hope management takes feedback like this seriously. Because I didn't want to be unfair, I tasted one before saying anything -- my sense of smell wasn't the problem. I sent them back. A second dozen was brought out with assurances that these were fresh. They were not. Identical smell, identical film. I tasted one of those too, for the same reason. Identical result. At that point the kitchen tried to make things right by sending out fried oysters, apparently to prove the product was fine. The smell of old fish coming off that plate was overwhelming before it reached the table. I didn't eat it. I left dinner having consumed a few fries off my dinner partner's plate, and we went home and ate there. I want to be fair: the staff were pleasant and clearly trying to recover the situation. But the recovery was the wrong one. When a customer sends back raw shellfish because it smells spoiled and confirms it by taste, the answer is to pull the oysters from service and check the rest of the batch -- not to plate a second dozen from the same source, and certainly not to fry them and send them back out. Spoiled raw shellfish is a genuine health risk, and it was served to me twice. One more observation. At 7pm on a Friday night, we were the only guests in the entire dining room. An empty room and product this far past its prime tend to be related problems. The one unqualified bright spot (hence 2 stars vs one): the guitarist. He was genuinely excellent -- great player, great song selection, and the only reason the evening wasn't a total loss. I hope he finds a venue that matches the quality he's bringing. I won't be back, and I'd skip the raw bar here entirely.
