    Clothes strewn everywhere.
    Robert S.

It's a jumbled hot mess of clothing in a store about half the size it needs to be to handle the Michigan Ave tourists. Yes, the clothes are cheap and comparable to H&M (which is right across the street) in quality and style. The Men's department is ridiculous. Clothes strewn around everywhere, no coordination of styles, empty soda and beer cans littered display stands on two separate visits, and everyone is bumping into each other. Service in the Men's department is non-existent because the ONE salesperson I saw is hurriedly trying to fold and hang all the crap dumped everywhere. It's like this every time I visit this location. This is NOT the Zara experience I had at their Old Orchard store, where the clothing is displayed elegantly, organized, and people actually greet you and ask if you need help. This Mich Ave location is an embarrassment to the brand.

I've shopped at this Zara location on Michigan Ave. twice during my visit to Chicago, spending nearly $500 between the two days, and my experience with Carlos in management was disappointing. I found an item that was incorrectly tagged, brought it to a sales rep (who was very kind), and then asked management if they could honor the price. Carlos confirmed it was the last item in the store but refused to honor it, and his attitude was unnecessarily rude. For a large corporation like Zara, I expect better customer service, especially for loyal, paying customers. To make matters worse, you can't even call individual stores anymore; you must visit in person to speak with someone or call a general customer support line. Overall, poor customer service and not worth my continued business at Zara.

08/08/23 located on N. Michigan. This Zara is quite small and expensive here. Not much selections. Crew was nice. Happy shopping!

Big store. Lots of options. My daughter loves this place. Next time, I need to go shopping here and buy something for myself! She found severalties that look totally adorable on her. We strategized. We had my niece stand on line while she was trying on things and then when we went out of the dressing room, it was time to check out. (I needed to use the ladies room so they recommended going to Saks two blocks down, but I ended up in TMobile next door since I had to get the screen fixed on my phone). They do have a few levels so you can find things here but you need patience! (They have a small mens dept, by the way as well).

    Cute hats. $15.90 though? yikes!

You should absolutely come here if you have nothing to do but waste your time. This store is...horrendous, to put it lightly. I came in on a Friday knowing exactly what I wanted. A knit hat for my nephew. When I got to the second floor kids section, the line was all the way backed up to the escalator with one cashier. I thought, that's fine, there's only 15 people ahead of me. Granted, I know the weekends are busy and the experience was in December, but we didn't experience anything like this at any of the other stores we visited on Michigan Ave and downtown. Anyway, I figured we'd wait 10 minutes tops. We were in this line for a HALF HOUR. These employees have zero respect and absolutely no sense of urgency. They literally work backwards, not slow motion. When I finally get to check out my one hat, I was completing payment when the employee said "wait, no! Hit cancel hit X, cancel". I'm thinking oh my gosh, what happened?? Especially since the payment went through quickly. I asked the employee what's going on because she just ended up giving me my hat and receipt as if nothing happened. She said "I was trying to take the sensor off". So what that told me is she was so upset it only took a total of six seconds to check me out. She was so upset she had to continue ringing up customers who have also waited 30 or so minutes in line. I wasn't even shocked at this point, grabbed my hat and left. Their corporate office needs to get here and figure things out. I've heard awful things about this company anyway. If the hat wasn't on a Christmas list, I'd never step foot here. They need to just get rid of Zara altogether but I'm terrified that these employees will spread their laziness at a favorite store of mine. So maybe Zara is just best left alone as a lazy, incompetent, inefficient, low-quality holder of all things because the only person that's actually ever working is the security guard who's only concerned about mask placement so that's absolutely irrelevant.

The store was kind of messy. Maybe it's because I came at a busy time on a Friday. They had a good amount of clothes and sizes though.

It's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get ahold of any department (I was calling nearly all of them). And the only department that picked up was Finishline. Jose from this department helped me immensely trying to wrangle the women's shoe department, calling me back to check on my inquiry when I called towards closing and was waiting for a call back from the department I was really trying to reach. I had to do my entire purchase over the phone, as this store was the only store to have the shoe I wanted in my size (I live in a different state), and I needed it ASAP for a special event. Since I called towards closing, I was supposed to get a call back. The women's shoe department failed to do so, so I called finishline again the next day (took me them an hour to pick up). It just felt like a lot of teeth pulling, but finishline and the manager of the men's department (Leticia I think but I don't remember I'm so sorry!) were really trying so hard to get the right apartment together (they physically had to run up stairs to communicate to them)! Super sorry I inconvenienced all the wrong departments, but I am immensely grateful for them! I got my shoes in time. Thank you! But please fix your phones at the cash registers or tell corporate to change the messaging in the automated phones because it was super frustrating spending hours trying to ring a phone.

I needed to find my bridal shoes and she needed to start looking at bridesmaids dresses. First of all, this is one of the prettiest Macy's I've ever been inside. I'm not sure if this is a normal big city thing, but feels like the entire store was just Macy's and not a mall which was cool. There seemed to be a lot of special deals on different items. Most of it was what you'd expect from a Macy's in terms of pricing. We had so much fun in the shoe section. They had a gorgeous selection of shoes to pick from. I ended up falling in love with some bridal shoes from Dolce Vita. I was so happy to be able to order them for pick up at my store back home so I didn't need to fly with them. We also tried on some other gorgeous shoes like ballet heels. In terms of formal dresses, it felt like they still mainly had their winter selection out, so we weren't able to find the exact green bridesmaid dress we were looking for, but we did get a good idea of what looked good vs what didn't. I highly recommend coming to this Macy's.

**Kari's Rating: 8/10** *(Would easily be a 9.5/10 if the beauty department weren't so…read moreoverwhelming.)* TL;DR * The beauty associates are *far* too aggressive--it feels impossible to browse without being approached every few seconds. * The café is still one of my favorite places in Chicago. * Free alterations on Nordstrom purchases and $25 for outside items is a huge plus. I've lived in River North for over eight years, and honestly, there's no place quite like Nordstrom. I grew up coming here with my mom, sitting in the café, eating pizza, and leaving with a "Nordy" balloon. Those are some of my favorite childhood memories, and to this day I still think about their margarita pizza. Now that I'm older, I bring my dog shopping with me, and she absolutely loves all the attention from the associates and other shoppers. We've been to the café countless times, and she would unquestionably give the kids' chicken and veggie meal a 10/10. Nordstrom is still my go-to department store because it's convenient, consistently carries the brands and style I wear, and the customer service outside of cosmetics has always been excellent. It's the first place I think of when I need clothing, shoes, or gifts. That said, the beauty department has become incredibly frustrating. I completely understand that many of the makeup associates work on commission, and I genuinely respect that they're doing their jobs. But there is a huge difference between being available to help and making customers feel like they can't exist in the department without being approached. Every time I walk through the makeup area, I can barely look at a product before someone is asking if I need help. If I say "I'm just browsing," another associate from a different brand approaches me literally seconds later. Then another. Then another. It gets to the point where I'm being interrupted every few steps. Instead of enjoying the experience, I feel anxious and rushed. I don't get to compare products or discover something on my own because I'm constantly trying to politely decline conversations. It honestly feels less like shopping and more like running a gauntlet. Ironically, the constant pressure makes me want to spend **less**, not more. I've actually skipped buying products because I just wanted to get out of that section as quickly as possible. I still love Nordstrom and will continue shopping here because it's my favorite department store and has everything I'm looking for. I just wish the beauty department adopted a more relaxed approach. Customers should be able to browse comfortably and ask for help when they're ready--not feel like they're being followed every few seconds.
