We stopped in after a night of ice fishing and they were warm and welcoming. We had apple fritter French toast and the Denver omelette. Both were perfect. They put coffee in our yeti cups and even rinsed them out before adding coffee. We'll be stopping in tomorrow morning on our way home. read more

My last review of this restaurant was before Covid. Many small town cafes didn't survive after 2020 but I'm happy to report that Zappy's did. And I believe the reason is simple: they never faltered in providing quality food at a reasonable price and excellent service. Today I stopped in and opted for a three egg Denver omelette. The best omelette you could ever hope for, no matter where and no matter what you were willing to pay. If you are in the area make a point to stop in. A small cafe on a corner of the street. I came here with my family for a quick lunch stop. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They have Pepsi products. My sister in law was able to get her gluten-free bread, my niece was able to ask for gravy for her mashed potatoes - they offered her chicken, beef, or sausage gravy. I always try to eat at this restaurant when I'm in town. The food is not only excellent but so is the service. They have good old homestyle cooking. On a previous trip, we arrived with 13 people, and they not only served us but also their other customers efficiently, without a long wait. This time, we ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger with Tator Tots and the 1/4 Broasted Chicken. Tator Tots and chicken were crispy and perfectly cooked. We were here twice. The first day, I enjoyed the omelet from the senior menu. It was very good and filling. The second morning, I had one egg with sausage and toast. The toast was a little burnt and the sausage a little dry but okay tasting. Overall I would say that it is a good place for breakfast. read more

Great spot for breakfast, we stopped in after we saw the Giant Paul Bunyan statue just up the road. I had the classic eggs benedict, my wife had the 2 Egg, Meat, Hash Browns and Toast meal, son had the biscuits and gravy. We also got a side of the Apple Fritter French Toast. All in all the food was good, service was a bit slow...but it was OK. Just the cook and the server taking care of about 5 tables. Good solid breakfast spot, close to the Paul Bunyan State Forest and the trails. We will go back. read more

This a decent little gem tucked away along the path of the great north travel path. I had the eggs Benedict for breakfast. It came with hash browns. A plain American staple, nothing unique or fancy. I felt like the hardy helping was the epitome of comfort food. I'm an endless pit when it comes to food, and this plate filled me right up. Our waitress was also the host. We dined when there was only one other party. She was attentive and kind, we felt welcomed. She was on top of refilling our coffee, which we badly needed! She was adequate pertaining to time, but kitchen services was slow. Who knows, during Covid they may have had a ton of to go orders, which is understandable. And our food cane out hot and fresh. Right off the Heartland Trail, this small cafe delivers a decent meal at a more than reasonable price. I noticed the waitress delivering overflowing plates of food on the first day, so I opted for the smaller meals: 2 pieces of glorious Apple Fritter French Toast (skipping the syrup since it was perfection with butter on it), and a bowl of Oatmeal the next morning. I liked it so well that we came to eat here two days in our weekend! Great service, good honest food, reasonable prices...what more could you ask for? Stopped by this little Cafe on my way back from working Up North. Nice little place, but the Lunch was just okay, along with the service. Out of a lot of stuff. The food was fantastic and prices were great. Servers were friendly but slow, which out of towners may not be used to. In general, Northern Minnesota cafes have a slower pace. We are here for breakfast and enjoyed the hash browns and stuffed omelet. My son was looking forward to the biscuits and gravy, but they were out at 10 am when we arrived. Otherwise, great! Looked up the menu online ordered our food when I picked up the food the price was alot higher than their online menu was told then that they can't update their prices online, feels like false advertising to me. Warning future customers they never said anything about it when I called to order. If the prices online aren't correct pull the ad, or honor the posted prices. read more

We placed a pick-up order bc of covid. There was seating available in the diner but we ate outside. Many flies near picnic table. We used the umbrella. Food was good, we had burger w tots and fish and fries. Garbage was overflowing. Plants dead in planters or weeds growing in them. The employee was wearing a mask and had our order done on time. For cafe food this place is great for the taste and value. We eat here a few times a year and the only negative thing I can say is they have one waitress who doesn't quite understand customer service. I tip her accordingly. Otherwise the place is a hit. read more

Stopped here on our way from Michigan to Utah so we could stretch our legs a bit. It had a very small town feel. All the other customers seemed to know each other haha. The cafe certainly could have been given some updating. It looked like my kitchen at home. But the food was good! I got the ham and cheese omelette with hash browns. The omelette was great but the hash browns could have used a little seasoning. My husband got fried eyes with Texas toast. However, the toast wasn't thick enough to be Texas toast.
