I LOVE Zambrero's. That's why it disappoints me to write this negative review. And my main 'beef' is with MenuLog. Long story short. After 1.5 hours of the eta timer adjusting their arrival time, I call up Zambrero's Darlinghurst. It's not the staff persons fault. But she goes on to say 'oh that has been ready for an hour and menulog driver/s just haven't turned up'. I said can you call them and find out what's going on? (Keep in mind they had my name and number on the already paid for and completed order!! So why didn't they call? Anyway. After telling me I should just cancel the order I'm like no. I'm hungry. It has been a long day. I love Z's and I want to have the food. Please make a fresh batch and chase up the menulog driver (I'll never use them again btw. This has happened before!). She says 'oh why don't you cancel the order and re do it via UberEats?' I'm line because it's now 9:45pm. I'm in my hotel. I'm starving and what if they don't show???' She says 'well I don't know what to do'. I said please call menulog and ask when the driver is coming. And to continue with my order (and for her to re make it). She says ok. And beep beep she hangs up on me. So I call back. Oh sorry sir. I rang menulog and they are answering. I then get the same please call ubereats. By now I'm tired. Hungry and just want a nice relaxing evening watching some tv and eating my Z's! So yea. Never ordering through their Zambrero Darlinghurst establishment again. And as soon as menulog confirms my cancelation and refunds me, I'm deleting their app - NEVER to return!! Again. The Z lady was lovely. Doing her best. But needed to be trained (she implied that menulog drivers often do this and that 5 orders already hadn't been picked up that night!!!!). So yea. She needed training in letting the customer know that the food was ready. But the driver wasn't. If I'd known that early on my evening could have been salvaged. When you're far from home. On your own. And you've worked. 12 hour day! Looking good forward to a nice hot meal back at your hotel is a great reward that you look forward to all night. So thanks for nothing Dambrero's Darlinghurst and MenuHog. Bye bye. Never again. read more

I've tried Guzman y Gomez. I've tried Mad Mex. But Zambrero is still my favourite takeaway burrito. It doesn't have black beans or anything fancy, but its pretty damn delicious. I like to get the chicken burrito with beans and rice, all the salads, sour cream, sometimes the guacamole (but its now $2 extra). You can choose the sauce you want and they're all pretty good. I like the Verde, but its a bit chilli hot, so take care with this choice. Another thing, the burrito is massive compared to the ones I've had at other places. Want more proof that this place is good? I risked getting trampled on by hordes of people during Mardi Gras to come here because I had a craving for a burrito. I got trampled on anyway but it was so worth it lol. I never see this place crowded because it always gets overlooked in favour of Mad Mex, but I actually prefer this place. I've noticed a few Yelp reviews rag on the meat, which I can't speak to being veg, but rest assured the veg burrito from Zambrero is the best takeaway burrito in Sydney. Zambrero has a unique philosophy when it comes to burritos. The boys and girls in black and green don't just use the tortilla as a sack to hold together a random bunch of fillings. They construct, apportion, create. Just the right amount of beans and rice, a sprinkling of cheese, zesty sauce, sour cream, and most importantly a plentiful squeeze of lime. The result is a well thought out burrito that is streets ahead of the standard takeaway fare. Delicious, hot, melty, leaves you full without feeling stuffed, and all in a well wrapped tortilla with perfect texture. Full disclosure: my two friends work here, one as a manager. So I'm a tad biased perhaps. But being a 'Murcan I'm also a Mexican food snob and their lamb burritos are the best burritos I've had in Sydney by a long shot. The lamb is slow cooked, tender, has hints of oregano (not really Mexican, but tasty) and layered onto a flour tortilla which has been warmed on a griddle, topped with the typical guac (which I thought was pretty good), and all the other usual burrito suspects, including a good range of different salsas. The burrito is assembled and wrapped up nicely, lending itself to minimal spillage upon consumption. But the best part for me is the end bit, where you're asked which type of SAUCE you'd like drizzled all over your meat, beans, guac, rice, cheese and veg. I LOVE THAT. Any opportunity to add more sauces to my life is an automatic win. There are 6 kinds- BBQ, creamy chipotle, garlic and herb, chilli, verde, and basilo (again, totally not Mexican, but yum.) Who was the genius who said, "You know what burritos need? A creamy sauce on top!" Because, really, they do. The best part? You can get ALL the sauces you want- yup, all 6- for the same price, resulting in an amalgamation of Mexican-y burrito-y goodness, oozing with loads of different and tasty sauces. I've tried their "chips and dip" and it was nothing special. Stick with the burritos, and go to town on the sauces. You won't be disappointed. It's still fast-food-esque, cheap and cheerful, but it sure beats spending upwards of $25 in most of Sydney's Mexican establishments on a burrito of lesser quality. Hooray for Zambreros! read more

Not really a fan. I've tried it several times, hoping it would grow on me and haven't made any progress. The meat they use is gross, the guac is not guac, and overall it just does not compare to the other fast food mex spots. Only bonus is that they are usually open later compared to Mad Mex. read more

I've walked passed this shop many times and had been wanting to stop by but I always forget. For some reason I'd remember Guzman in world square or mad mex on crown. This time though, I remember! The price was more expensive than Guzman or mad mex. They had this IQ menu which contains nutrients good for the brain or so they claim. I ordered the chicken IQ burrito bowls. It had spirulina instead of rice, IQ salsa which had interesting beans, and the chicken was cooked differently. There were loads of salad as well. I really liked it. It was fresh and delicious. Yes it's a bit more expensive than other tex mex but I think I will be back. read more

BEST BURRITOS IN SYDNEY. Hands down. Probably the best food in Sydney, actually. It's fresh, it's flavourful, it's sort of healthy... Make sure you try the dos capas as well as the burrito - they're an amazing combination of textures with a warm soft tortilla on the outside, crunchy taco shell on the inside and delicious Zambrero fillings and sauces on the inside. Stopped in here for a quick bite. Had been to Mad Mex, which is good but decided to give this place a try. Ordered the Chik-to (smaller 10 inch) Veggie burrito, which was basically pinto beans and guacomole (bit lacking compared to the veggies offered at Mad Max) but it was still pretty good. Would think it'd be cheaper than ordering meat but its the same price. Ordered the medium sauce. Tasty enough, but think I prefer Mad Mex or Guzman y Gomez. read more

I stop in here every now and then, just to have a change from the other local burrito outlets, and this is a slightly different take on the "Mexican" cuisine on offer. The burritos aren't quite as well packed as the Mad Mex/Guzmans ones, they tend to be a little messier - or maybe that was just due to the overly casual nature of the girl behind the counter. I can't fault them on flavour, but it doesn't leave me feeling as satisfied as one of their more well-known competitors. And yes, they charge the obligatory $2 for guacamole - seriously, you'd think this stuff was green gold considering the small dollop you get (all of the Mexican places are guilty of this). If you fancy a little change from the MM/GyGs, then give it a go, it's pretty good, but it won't be the place you head to time after time. read more

I like heading in to Zambrero for a couple of reasons. Firstly I like the food. It's hard not to like tacos (soft or hard shell) and burritos (they also have the burrito in a bowl option which I must admit I'm yet to try) but the other reason is that every time someone purchases a meal here Zambero provide a 'plate' to someone in the developing world. They call it 'plate for a plate' and that is a really good and nice idea! If the thought of some nice Mexican food isn't enough then 'plate for a plate' should be enough to sway you into Zambero. There is a system to the food here at Zambrero's it's basic tacos but you choose in an orderly way how you want to make your taco. Whether you want it with meat, without, with cheese without. It's presented to you in a way that will startle you with confidence into this style of food, if you have never tried it before. It is a great way to introduce yourself to the cuisine of the Mexican region and get a taste of the flavour. I would encourage trying it out edging yourself into it, and even going for a bit of chilli if it is available. There are cool drinks available and you can sit in or takeaway this is a kind of Mexican fast food experience. So enjoy a bit of a snack on the way through, good for a junk food craving. read more

I am most definitely a Mexican food snob but it's merely a product of where I grew up which is about a half hour drive north of the Mex/California border... This is hands down the worst representation of Mexican food I have encountered in my 2 years in Sydney. Wake up OZ, Mexican food does not constitute this stewed beef rubbish I see a lot of places try to pawn off as such... Someone from California please save us all and bring true Mexican food to town! I grew up eating Mexican food and, just as with other national cuisines, there are variations, some better than others. I've tried Zambrero twice, at two different outlets, and sad to say the product does not resemble authentic Mexican cuisine. On both occasions I ended up throwing most of the order away as I thought the food disgusting. I'm sure some like it, based on other reviews I have read, but aside from the names used there is nothing Mexican about it. My quest to find acceptable Mexican cuisine in Australia will never die and on occasion I have had some acceptable meals, but none so far truly good (except for some Tex-Mex, one of those variations I spoke of, prepared by an American chef at a restaurant in Cremorne ... but that chef left that restaurant 20+ years ago and the restaurant soon closed, as it could not sustain the previous quality ... following a written recipe just doesn't cut it). This place was AWFUL. They charge you extra for every little thing, the portions are tiny, the food was cold, the chicken looks like cat food, and the flavor is shit. We ate a few bites of our food (a vegetarian bowl and some chicken nachos) and felt completely ripped off after having paid $32. We asked for a refund and the girl said that she can't control whether or not we like the flavor of their food and refused to just give us a refund. We asked for a manager and she had to call off site and put us on the phone with him. Having ZERO politeness or customer service skills, he only agreed to give us 50% back and told me I was interrupting his family dinner. As if his customers are such an inconvenience! Unbelievable! Frustrated and just wanting to get the hell out of there, we accepted the 50% refund which the girl then made a mistake and charged me AGAIN instead of giving me the refund. When i discovered zambrero my life changed. I was backpacking alone in Australia and one time booked a hostel that was near a zambrero because their burritos are just that good. I walked about an hour one time just to get a burrito. Honestly they're really amazing. And so worth it. I'm back in the USA and i still think about this burrito.
