As it was time to eat some Mexican, me and a pal went to Guzman and Gomez in Kings Cross. The bright yellow colour scheme beckoned us in with their logo of two friendly guys smiling and winking at all those who passed by. I ordered a Burrito Bowl and a ginger beer. My friend ordered his own meal and we sat down in the cool and quiet restaurant. Primarily a take away place, the food comes in cardboard boxes and paper bags, but some seating is available inside the establishment. Men and women in suits and office shirts walk in and order, pick up their food and leave. The small mexican eatery which advertises Burritos, Tacos, Nachos, Beer and Margarita's appears to be popular with the working community. My number is called and I approach the counter. It's a Burrito. I say, "Excuse me, this is a Burrito." She stares at me. I continue, "Where's the bowl?" "Ah." She says, "The bowl!" The chef comes out and tells me he'll make it into a bowl for me. I thank him kindly and walk away. I think it's her first day or at least an early time in her Guzman Y Gomez career, as when I walk back to my ginger beer and buddy I over hear the chef telling her that a Burrito is very different to a Burrito Bowl. I hope she doesn't get into trouble. The food is ready and it's absolutely delicious. I cover it in chilli's from the free condiment section and dine on my spicy Mexican, eating it out of a bowl. (Or the cardboard box equivalent) Thank you Guzman and of course Gomez.

Best burritos in Australia. I prefer the barramundi. Generous serving of fish. N the rice isnt too sour.

Fajitas bowl. Pretty decent w/ a liberal addition of hot sauce tbh

Mid price trendier fast food chain, I think it markets itself as a more authentic taste of Mexico without the diahorrea. Tbh it's really bland and uninteresting, well the tacos and burritos I've tried are and they're pretty small portions...inhale too deep and your meal is over. I have had tastier Mexican from Westfield food courts at half the price. This store screwed up my order a couple of times cause they didn't understand English or something. The one at World Square has given me much better service. Best thing on the menu in my experience is the spicy pork tacos....and the Jarritos (Mexican soft drink). Almost makes me miss Taco Bell....no not really.

My pick of the menu is the Steak Chipotle Burrito ($10) which I believe I am now addicted to.

They did seat us under a staircase and it was annoying hearing the heavy footsteps stomping up and down throughout dinner service. The food was very good to stellar! As others have mentioned, the Tacos are King here. Tartare Tacos are amazing, and we loved the Salmon Civiche and the carnitas tacos, as well. Flathead Civiche was delicious, Brussels Sprouts were super tasty, and we also enjoyed the twice cooked Pork Belly. Not so good was the Pato Ahumado. The mole was really tasty but not enough, and the breast was really tough and fatty, plus no proper cutlery provided. Really disappointing, as we couldn't eat or enjoy it and it was like we just threw $72 away. While I did appreciate their coursing, we did wait for long periods between. Cocktails were good, as was a glass of wine, but pours are very light. Recommended, for sure. Avoid the duck.

The tacos were amazing!! The chips and dip were also very good and had a nice balance of flavor. Was something unique that I had not tried before. Everything tasted high quality with a large depth of flavor. Would highly recommend!

Let me tell you upfront: There is no elevator. You will have to climb up all those stairs. I huffed…read moreand puffed my way up there and it was a mad house once I arrived. Seems to be a popular place. Several parties were going on, seemed like a bachelorette party, a birthday, a group of folks all dressed in pink and another group dressed like flappers. It was extremely loud and unfortunately I was not able to make my way to an area where I could have checked out the view. It is semi covered by a roof and then there is an open air area, but the are large umbrellas you can hide under. I had a nice little drink and enjoyed the people watching. They have quite a drink menu and also offer some food, but that is rather limited. Just come up here for the drinks and the party atmosphere. I have to say that the bartenders are very nice.

The staircase had a few more steps than I had thought but since the walls were covered with a rather nifty form of graffiti art sort of fun. Overall I found the seating and general atmosphere of being up on the roof top extremely pleasant and sort of a welcome relief from being on street level. The general set up with bar and food service is really good, orderly, neat, clean, trendy and fun. For food, I went for the for their Wagyu flat iron steak. Though listed on their menu as barbecue it actually came grilled, but that might be because Australians, as is the much the same situation in the United States north of the Mason Dixon line, are oblivious to the differences between "barbecuing" and "grilling." Hence when Australians say they are going to "toss whatever on the barbie," they actually mean they are going to toss it upon an open grill. Nevertheless, the steak was really good, served with a nice side salad. My dining companion, Yelper Jim D., ordered the salmon skewers which were likewise perfectly grilled, served with a side of greens and topped with a sprig of fresh dill in what was not only delicious but eye appealing. Because of the good food, reasonable prices and nifty rooftop location, I haven't any hesitation in being a fan of Sweetheart's or of recommending it.
