I recently saw reviews about this newer Afghanistani restaurant in Stafford and went one day for lunch. The reviews were very positive and when I got there, they were really busy at lunch time on a weekday. There was only one guy working the dining room and he did a pretty good job keeping an eye on each table, taking orders, bringing food out, etc. The restaurant is very clean and orderly. The tables were all newer and even had white table clothes. Their menu is filled with all the typical kabobs, but also some other interesting items, like Karahi, which is a style of tomato-based curry.
Since I prefer Pakistani food over all other Middle Eastern foods, mostly due to the level of heat, style of cooking, and flavor of the curries. So, I asked him how they do their karahi and he said they will make it as spicy as I wanted. So, I opted for a chicken karahi, which comes with naan, but no rice. While waiting for this to come out I was watching and smelling all the other items coming out to the other tables and they all looked and smelled great. Then my dish came out.
First impression was that it looked more flavorful than I expected. Smell was decent. The flavors were nice. Far from the best I've had and slightly too greasy too, but decently spiced. Meat was very tender too. The naan looked, smelled, and tasted great! Their green chutney was also pretty nice. I ordered a side dish of mast-o-khiar along with the chicken Kahari and that was outstanding! It's like a Middle Eastern version of tzatziki and it tasted so good! I didn't expect an entire soup bowl as a serving, but I ate nearly the entire bowl, it was that good!
Overall, I'd give them a 4.5, which I'll bump up to a 5 as this was a decent first visit. I'll definitely return and want to try kabobs next time. read more
