My daughter has both peanut and shellfish allergies, so they were very attentive and prepared her a separate dish for the tortilla chips which had been cooked in the same oils as shellfish. Across the board an excellent restaurant. While staying at Villa del Palmar, my family and I got real acquainted with this restaurant as it's the only sit-down restaurant open for lunch. No worries, though, they have a different menu for dinner. Worked well for us because both the lunch and dinner were great. All the ingredients were fresh. Standouts are definitely the guacamole, shrimp nachos, carnitas (my absolute favorite) and the veggie fajitas. We tried nearly every dessert and the best is the chocolate tamal. Very cool twist on the tamal. In the "corn husk" is a warm flourless chocolate cake. It pairs perfectly with the coffee ice cream-- in fact, I ended up asking for two scoops. As with most all inclusive the food can be less than appetizing; we were pleasantly surprised with the flavors and seasoning of the dishes. The octopus wasn't chewy but very tender. Great Mexican restaurant at Villa del Palmar. We usually come here for lunch when staying at the resort. The ambiance is great thanks to the Mayan architecture. Nothing better to start a lunch with a tequila or mezcal based cocktail. This restaurant has a great bartender. The food is very nice and well prepared, with a large variety of classical dishes including ceviche and tostadas as appetizers, as well as a good selection of tacos and quesadillas. The main courses range from burgers and grilled meats to seafood dishes. My personal favorites are the soft shell crab and the Tikin Xic fish, which both make for an excellent lunch. Came here for lunch - the drinks were barely palatable and the lunch items were OK. The waiters were good. But my biggest gripe is that the price was exorbitant. And then, the "butler" in our hotel, Garza Blanca, Cancun, supposedly made reservations at this place for 830PM dinner. Shockingly surprised - our reservation was not made, and while Zama had many empty tables, they wouldn't seat us. Oh well. Saved us from another poor culinary experience. We've visited this location 3 times in the past 5 years. There isn't anything on the menu that I would try twice. The pork belly and guacamole is terrible. The guacamole was mushy because it was not made fresh and it had a really tart lime taste. The pork belly is cut into tiny pieces, but very hard and chewy. I felt nauseous as I was trying swallow this strange concoction. We tried another dish for dinner, but I cannot recall any of it (they were not memorable). Service was okay. Located in Villa del Palmar, this is the Mexican option and was an excellent experience. I would recommend sitting outside, great views of the resort and nice water features all around. As far as the meal, plenty of fresh seafood lines the menu. The catch of the day was grouper and was deliciously prepared. Not over cooked, topped with onions and tomato. Guacamole was very tasty along with fresh crunchy chips. The prices are a bit on the steeper end without an all inclusive package for what you get, but portions are plentiful. Would return here to try a few more things. As far as service, the folks were extremely nice and helpful, but did not come around often. The host/manager was wonderful and cleared the table for us that we wanted. In all fairness, this place probably deserves 3.5 stars, but given how nice people where, rounding up seems like a logical choice. Overall, a great spot if you are already in the resort. read more

Vegan love! Tacos come on slices of jicama instead of tortillas. Super fresh. Lettuce, cabbage, onion, tomato, carrot, sweet corn, caramelized pumpkin seeds. Just wow. Tostada comes with the same ingredients on a crispy tortillas. Both with a side of guac. A glass of fresh pressed jugo de tamarindo to round out a fresh and healthy lunch. This is probably my least favorite restaurant on the property. Came here for dinner and had the tuna tacos and the flan for desert. The tuna was super dry and over cooked and the flan was average. My friend ordered the shrimp and risotto, the risotto was really good but her shrimp was cold like it was sitting out waiting to be delivered. We also ordered drinks which were amazing. I think I ordered the Frida Kahlo. They were strong, fresh and unique. And the service was fantastic. We absolutely love all the staff onsite, they make the resort. read more

Get the tiken xik (spelling?) and you'll be rewarded with an amazing grouper steak full of color and flavor. The house salsa and guacamole is good, but avoid the shrimp dishes as they always seemed a bit limp and rubbery.
