At the nd I was still having sinus infections so they said I should see a different doctor, and they told me to stop using the Steroid sprays. I followed their instructions and I had severe withdrawal symptoms. I contacted them via patience portal, and explained my symptoms. They said that these sprays "should not" cause withdrawal symptoms and I should go to my GP. So again basically "just go see another doctor" when things got hard. That was disappointing. I am glad to say that I went to a different ENT and had a different procedure done for my sinuses and that took care of my on going sinus infection.

Someone called me a few days later and set him up an appointment for 3 1/2 weeks later. 24 hours before the appointment, they called to say this doctor won't see him for his diagnosis. My father has been suffering for over 3 weeks waiting to see this specialist. They refused to take any accountability for the situation or admit they put his health in danger. The office manager told me this is not their fault and blamed the ER. Then she blamed the call center schedulers. Completely unprofessional to shift the blame to your employees and then tell you it's not her problem.

I was able to fill out all my patient forms online ahead of time, so they were completely ready for me when my appointment began. Dr. Young was very understanding of my issue and explained the different options I have for addressing it. This resulted in an in-person visit. I was greeted quickly and very friendly.  The waiting room is very calming; you only hear the light music from the front desk and the hum of the air purifier. The nurse who took me back to the room and took my vitals was very friendly and made me feel welcome. My visit with Dr. Young was awesome.  She explained everything she did, step by step, and was patient with all of my questions. Building is in a quiet area and has ample parking. Hand sanitizer is available throughout the building and outside the office door.  Masks are required throughout the building and offices, including this office.

I came to ENT Specialists of Austin for what should have been a standard clinical evaluation. During the exam, Dr. Youssef grabbed my tongue with gauze and yanked it so violently to the side that the tissue tore and started bleeding right there in the exam chair. The pain was immediate and excruciating. For several days afterward, my tongue and throat were swollen, and I couldn't swallow without sharp pain or eat solid food. What made the visit completely surreal was the lack of proper medical equipment. Instead of using a sterile ENT scope or a dedicated clinical camera, Dr. Youssef literally grabbed my personal cell phone, turned on the flashlight, and held my unsterilized phone right in front of my open, bleeding mouth to take pictures. Aggressive physical handling, painful recovery, and zero regard for sterile technique. I would strongly advise looking elsewhere for ENT care and avoiding Dr. Youssef.

In March 2023, Dr. Slaughter performed the following surgeries to resolve my issues: balloon sinuplasty, septoplasty, turbinate reduction, and rhinoplasty. After surgery, my issues were still present and I had more difficulty breathing. At my post-op appointment, Dr. Slaughter's PA documented a newly acquired nasal-valve collapse and told me to wear nasal strips (which I did not have to wear prior to surgery). After almost a year of dealing with the collapse, Dr. Slaughter performed a VivAer procedure. Although there was some improvement, I continued to have breathing and structural concerns. At my February 2024 follow-up appointment, my concerns were minimized and I was, again, told to use nasal strips. I left that appointment assuming there was nothing more that could be done and I was permanently stuck with a collapsed nasal cavity and very minimal structural support. I was also disappointed by the communication and follow-up regarding the rhinoplasty portion of my surgery. I did not feel that the specific rhinoplasty plan, including what existing structural support might be removed or replaced, was adequately discussed with me. I later sought independent ENT evaluations because my sinus headaches became too intense to ignore. Those evaluations documented reduced tip support, mobile anterior cartilage that is not secured to the nasal spine (seen in photos below), marked narrowing of the left internal and external nasal valves, and a need for further functional reconstruction with grafting. Both of these ENT's stated the graft removal is a large part of the reason for the collapse. I now have to pay $13k out of pocket to reconstruct my nose with my own rib cartilage. Due to the cost of the reconstruction, I requested a refund of the $7k I paid for surgeries with Dr. Slaughter. I requested the reimbursement via his office manager after she replied to my Yelp review (which was removed from this page) stating she was willing to discuss my issues. I thought they would be amenable to hearing my concerns but, instead of treating me like a patient with a financial burden caused by a failed surgery at his office, Dr. Slaughter had his insurance company send me a letter stating that they will not reimburse me (see photo). They issued this letter without any information regarding what the two other ENT's found when they examined me. After receiving the letter and reading the word "settlement," I checked the public records. Dr. Slaughter currently has a malpractice case open in Travis County (as of September 2026). For patients considering complex nasal surgery, revision rhinoplasty, grafting, or combined functional and cosmetic procedures, I encourage getting more than one specialist opinion, asking for a clear written surgical plan, and discussing exactly what support structures or grafts may be preserved, removed, or replaced. I also highly encourage people to seek ENT services elsewhere, unless you want to be told you need a balloon sinuplasty on all of your sinuses, a septoplasty, and turbinate reduction.

Apparently, I had two sources of mouth pain - 1) lower portion of my mouth - eliminated via a root canal and 2) now, the upper part of my mouth. The upper pain has been a little more difficult to diagnose. I went to my dentist, who was not able to pinpoint any tooth pain. Thus, today I ended up at Austin Ear Nose & Throat clinic. First my ears were evaluated by listening to high and low sounds while pressing a button when I heard the sounds. In addition, an overall evaluation of my ears was completed. No water in my ears, no wax build up. That was good to hear. In addition, Dr. Boerner did a live scan of the my sinus and found no infection. It was quite interesting viewing the inside of my nose via a monitor. Dr. Boerner has a pleasant demeanor and super helpful in explaining medical details. Before my office visit I was sent a link to fill out my medical history and pay my co-pay. The only paper work iI needed to complete in-office was some consent forms. Thus, a pretty straightforward process. Diagnosis: Allergy treatment, CT imaging and 4 week follow-up.

Of note, be prepared to pay for your portion of the visit BEFORE you leave the office. I'm not a huge fan of this practice. I'm of the belief, if you have insurance, the billing should first be sent through the insurance and then send a bill to me for my portion once the insurance advises what my portion is.
