Dr. Slaughter has a double board certification in both Otolaryngology and Sleep Medicine, and has over 30 years of experience. He trains other ENT doctors to use his balloon technique. If you have to have deviated septum or sinus surgery, or need help with sleep apnea, I highly recommend this physician for your treatment. He helped develop a minimally invasive technique called balloon sinuplasty. I have heard many horror stories regarding recovery from people who experienced deviated septum surgery in other ENT doctor's offices. I experienced nothing but positivity yesterday. When I arrived for surgery, from the front desk staff who greeted me and checked me in, to every single person I encountered, I felt at peace. The nurses are exceptional, especially Karen, who checked on me in the recovery room, and the nurse who stayed with me after surgery (I don't remember her name). When Karen had me prepped for surgery and walked me into the surgery room, I saw the doctor, the anesthesiologist, and at least 3 nurses, standing in a simi circle around the chair, all smiling at me, as if they were the welcoming committee! It gave me such a feeling of peace, and I knew they were going to take good care of me. Every single encounter was first class and professional. My recovery so far has been excellent, with very little bleeding, no stints in my nostrils, and only mild discomfort. I was quite impressed by the kindness, courtesy, and professionalism when I first visited the office of Capitol Otolaryngology. Dr. Wassmuth examined my nose and suggested balloon sinuplasty with turbinate reduction. After much trepidation, I scheduled the surgery, which is done in-office. The process of fixing my nose didn't take all that long. The anesthesiologist, Dr. Jack Carsner, was excellent, as were all those I met in the operating room. The procedure apparently went off without a hitch, and my husband drove me home where I rested the remainder of the day. Within a day or so I was feeling much better. I am still considered to be recovering after a week, but have already experienced noticeable improvements in my breathing. My husband says my snoring was virtually gone within a day after the procedure. I've had a variety of seemingly-minor health concerns, that when put together, have led to other problems. Snoring, dry mouth, dental issues, and poor sleep quality turned out to have (at least in part) had a common root cause in breathing problems. Hopefully all will improve or resolve before very long. If you have any kind of breathing problems, including snoring and symptoms like dry mouth when you awaken, you may benefit from a visit to Dr. Wassmuth. I highly recommend his medical practice.

I came to ENT Specialists of Austin for what should have been a standard clinical evaluation. During the exam, Dr. Youssef grabbed my tongue with gauze and yanked it so violently to the side that the tissue tore and started bleeding right there in the exam chair. The pain was immediate and excruciating. For several days afterward, my tongue and throat were swollen, and I couldn't swallow without sharp pain or eat solid food. What made the visit completely surreal was the lack of proper medical equipment. Instead of using a sterile ENT scope or a dedicated clinical camera, Dr. Youssef literally grabbed my personal cell phone, turned on the flashlight, and held my unsterilized phone right in front of my open, bleeding mouth to take pictures. Aggressive physical handling, painful recovery, and zero regard for sterile technique. I would strongly advise looking elsewhere for ENT care and avoiding Dr. Youssef.

My father was in the hospital and they referred me to Dr Nason. This doctor's name was written on his discharge paperwork. I filed out the appointment form online with all the information, including his diagnosis/hospital info/and that the hospital wrote a referral. Someone called me a few days later and set him up an appointment for 3 1/2 weeks later. 24 hours before the appointment, they called to say this doctor won't see him for his diagnosis. My father has been suffering for over 3 weeks waiting to see this specialist. They refused to take any accountability for the situation or admit they put his health in danger. The office manager told me this is not their fault and blamed the ER. Then she blamed the call center schedulers. Completely unprofessional to shift the blame to your employees and then tell you it's not her problem.

The nurse who took me back to the room and took my vitals was very friendly and made me feel welcome. Apparently, I had two sources of mouth pain - 1) lower portion of my mouth - eliminated via a root canal and 2) now, the upper part of my mouth. The upper pain has been a little more difficult to diagnose. I went to my dentist, who was not able to pinpoint any tooth pain. Thus, today I ended up at Austin Ear Nose & Throat clinic. First my ears were evaluated by listening to high and low sounds while pressing a button when I heard the sounds. In addition, an overall evaluation of my ears was completed. No water in my ears, no wax build up. That was good to hear. In addition, Dr. Boerner did a live scan of the my sinus and found no infection. It was quite interesting viewing the inside of my nose via a monitor. Dr. Boerner has a pleasant demeanor and super helpful in explaining medical details. Before my office visit I was sent a link to fill out my medical history and pay my co-pay. The only paper work iI needed to complete in-office was some consent forms. Thus, a pretty straightforward process. Diagnosis: Allergy treatment, CT imaging and 4 week follow-up.

Dr. Fyfe performed my surgery in March (balloon sinuplasty and "roto rooter" holes). The surgery required general anesthesia, and recovery from the "roto rooter" was long and painful. After recovery, I felt great for about 6 weeks. Then, in May I got a sinus infection and took antibiotics. In June I got another sinus infection, another follow up, and more antibiotics. In July...another sinus infection. After that, I sought another opinion, and found that there are more modern and effective procedures that do not require cutting holes (the "roto rooter") and do not require general anesthesia. I had another procedure done last week to fix my sinuses (the holes Dr. Fyfe made weren't draining properly) and it has been a much easier recovery so far. Only twilight sedation was needed, and it was done in-office instead of in a surgery center. I feel more confident now that my infected days are over, but I wish I would have gotten a second opinion before surgery with Dr. Fyfe so that I could have avoided the permanent and unnecessary holes in my sinuses.

I waited 45…read moreminutes for the doctor, it took her all of 3 minutes to look at me, and I was charged $1200. $600 just for the privilege of walking into the office and another $600 for the 3 minute exam which she charged as an endoscopy and wasn't. They charge exorbitant amounts just so the insurance company can tell them what the max amount allowed is so they can get the most they can. It's sad that we go to these people for help and they take advantage of us. I will never go back here. My issue wasn't even fixed. Going to a doctor that actually cares.
