Ordered it 2 times within last week, can't complain! Started with pasta and found the portions to be delicious and good sized, same goes for the Beet salad. Three days later ordered some pizza while my in-laws were over and both (Spicy Pepperoni and The Goat) were delicious. Fell short on menu description leaving us confused and dissatisfied. The Grover was described as having prosciutto - what arrived was more akin to country ham, thick slabs of incredibly salty ham with the texture of jerky - difficult to bite through and heavy on impact, overpowering the nuance of the other ingredients. Our Caprese was described as having burrata. Burrata is a sumptuous, creamy delight - this had chunks of what looked and tasted like plain mozzarella - not of the texture or creamy filling of burrata. Ours came without the balsamic glaze so, instead of taking the pizza back and drizzling it with the glaze we were given a side of the thick glaze that we had no hope of drizzling and ended up glopped on - not sure if it was the red sauce itself or the addition of SO much glaze but the flavor ended up in the sweet canned sauce territory (see: Chef Boyarde). We did ask the server about the ingredients (thinking perhaps there was someone new in the kitchen - that's fine, mistakes happen) but no, we got the brush off and hurried with a curt, "so a large to go box then?" Very unlikely to return which is sad - the ambiance is lovely but the flavors just weren't there and we weren't sold what was advertised. We were the first and only customers so no excuse for being busy. We came to Za to have pizza, but after we saw our neighbors pasta and how good it looked, we changed our mind and had pasta dinners. Three people of our group had a pasta dinner and we all tried each others. They were all really tasty! I had chicken piccata which was very good. It had a light lemon flavor and a light creamy sauce. It was very busy and plan to be in a very noisy atmosphere. They have baffles, but it doesn't help much. The service was fabulous and Louise was great and very attentive. After losing our special, regular dining spot, my husband and I were on the hunt for not a comparable replacement but another establishment that covered all the bases, e.g., consistently delicious food, a thoughtful menu that is not overbearing (or oversized), cocktails that delight, perfect lighting, a coziness factor, and extremely pleasant staff. Last night, on one of our many return visits, we sat at the bar with its warm lighting combined with a warm welcome. You will find Katy at the bar, and she is by far one of THEE best. She remembers your drinks, can sense whether you want to relax or have places to go, and has the biggest smile whether it is bumper-to-bumper people or steady but calm. In a metro area full of options, we find ourselves saying, "Za," when thinking of where to have dinner. Last night's dinner saw an order I also cannot help but repeat - the lasagna! To me, I have had a hard time finding its equal. Perhaps, it is that the ingredients are fresh, balanced, and baked in the wood-fired oven. My husband went with the chicken alfredo and loved every bite. So much so that the leftovers made an appearance on tonight's dinner table. Do not let the leftovers fool you into thinking the portions are ginormous. Oh, no. The portions are perfect, but the dishes are so yummy, you do not want them to end. Plus, if you enjoy some of their appetizers - also, well-crafted and tasty, no matter which one you order, you will not be able to finish the main event. No problem, because you can rest assured that the food will be just as fabulous the next time you come, and guaranteed, Katy and company will remember you, likely your beverage, and will make you feel like you are a Za regular. I waited to write a review till we ate here twice but even with our second visit we still weren't super thrilled. It's literally so incredibly loud inside that we had to yell across the table just to hear each other. And this was with the garage doors open; I can only imagine how loud it will be in the winter with those doors closed. The pizza is just okay and the garlic bread had so much butter on it that it was just soggy and inedible. The pizza my husband ordered said it had feta on it so he asked for it without feta. He ended up receiving a pizza with zero cheese at all, not even mozzarella. We brought it to our waitress' attention and her response was "feta is the only cheese on that pizza so we assumed you didn't want any cheese at all". Wouldn't it have been nice if she asked that when it was ordered?! His pizza was inedible and they didn't remake it or even comp it. After two failed attempts, we won't be returning. read more

This place is an outstanding summer spot with four garage doors that open/close depending on weather. The staff was extremely hard-working and yes, whoever mentioned the bus boy was spot on. Really enthusiastic and friendly. I have to agree that the eggplant strips were fantastic but they were a little skimpy on the portion size. The red sauce that comes with them is divine. The pizza was fun, but I felt the sausage could have a little more flavor to it, maybe a little more fennel or anise seed. The Caesar salad was beautifully presented, but it lacked flavor and was under dressed. We were disappointed because the night we were there the Kentucky Derby was on and everyone was excited to see it, but the bartender didn't know how to turn up the volume. So they lose a star for that lol. The drinks were very light and my parents who barely ever have a cocktail complained that there wasn't any booze in the drinks. Ambience is perfect and the staff has been great every single time. We have been 6 times now and tried a fair amount of the menu. The spicy pepperoni is by far the best pizza we've had after trying 4 so far. The funghi pasta is also amazing. I'm not a caper fan but my wife has loved the chicken picatta and she doesn't even like chicken. We've also had the garlic bread with cheese all 6 times. Caesar salad with shrimp has been a solid choice as well. Kid friendly as well and they do have a "kids menu" that isn't listed or printed. read more

The Caesar salad is an amazing updated take of the classic dish (always skeptical) - order it! The sauce is always light / non existent so order appropriately if you are a saucey person (recommend 'extra sauce' on the Spicy Vodka) The Goat pizza is a great app for sharing actually... We left before they seated us because we knew we didn't want to have to shout to each other at the table. They had the garage doors open and I don't know whether that helped or hindered the situation. Look... It's Elm Grove and at least there's another decent restaurant to go eat at. The younger staff seemed motivated to please. First off, we were seated at one of the many high top tables nearest the bar area. I usually like it when we are asked if that's OK by the person seating us. And, it was. Once finally approached and given a drink menu we were asked if we would like something to drink. Katy the younger smiling woman (coming out from behind the bar), she was very pleasant. I had asked how her Campari Negroni's are. She had confidently said good, which I'd liked. And, they were! We were then offered a food menu. We had planned on having an earlier dinner on Sunday. It wasn't too crowded or loud yet as it would tend to be. This is probably because of the room's acoustical sound waves bouncing from the louder voices. My wife (she grew up in Europe), had ordered the Short Rib Pappardelle. Unfortunately, she had to send that back and we just had asked for something else. The short rib meat was horribly fatty. It tasted like this cheaper boiled meat. We told the staff about it. Maybe and hopefully they do something about it in the future to make this a better dish. It has potential. So, we got the Margarita pizza. Which was much better. The pizza dough and thin crust is really great. So, I had the Spicy Rigatoni Vodka. The italian sausage in it I had thought was of good quality and it tasted so. At most of the better Italian restaurants, they usually provide you with a pepper mill that works. We had to ask twice for one that didn't spill the cracked pepper all over the place. Oh boy. The younger staff is very engaging and they want to please you. I like this. If they can get some of these other things I've mentioned worked out, I think that they'd have the makings of a more solid restaurant. The portion sizes are very generous. So, if you pay with your credit card, there is a smaller service charge fee. You can avoid this, by paying cash. I'd give this restaurant a shot and don't feel bashful to speak up if you need to. read more

My only critique would be that the center of the pizza could have been done more. It was a bit soggy in the center but the flavors were fabulous! Atmosphere very good.
