    Providence Heart Ranch - Duke

    Providence Heart Ranch

We had the most wonderful experience at Providence Heart Ranch for a special mother-daughter event!…read more The horseback riding was such a fun and memorable experience for the girls. The staff were welcoming, patient, and made everyone feel comfortable around the horses. The kids absolutely loved getting to ride and spend time with the animals. The tea, music, and beautiful ranch atmosphere made the day feel extra special. The girls had an absolute blast. You can really feel the love and care that goes into the ranch, the horses, and the families who visit. It was such a unique experience, and we are already looking forward to coming back! Thank you, Providence Heart Ranch, for helping make the day so special!

I planned my bachelorette party with Providence Heart months in advance, and throughout that time…read moreeverything seemed like it was moving forward. They knew the date of my event was Saturday, October 3, and we had multiple emails and text messages discussing the plans. About two weeks before the event, the communication started to change from everything sounding confirmed to more of a "we'll see" situation. Even then, I continued answering questions and providing the information they requested, including our group size and rider details. As recently as the day before they canceled, they were still asking questions and discussing logistics for our group. Then, only four days before my bachelorette party, I received a message saying they were unable to accommodate us because their trainers were unavailable. What I find most disappointing is the timing. If there was a possibility that they could not accommodate our group, I should have been told weeks earlier. They already knew the date and had been communicating with me about this event for months. Waiting until four days before an important event left me with essentially no time to find another horseback-riding experience or completely reorganize my bachelorette plans. I understand that staffing issues can happen, but the way this was handled was extremely disappointing and unprofessional. I would have much rather been told earlier that they could not commit to the event than spend months planning around something that was ultimately canceled at the last minute. This was supposed to be a special memory before my wedding, and instead I had to cancel the plans I had been looking forward to because there simply was not enough time to arrange something comparable. Based on my experience, I would not recommend planning an important or time-sensitive event here unless you are prepared for the possibility that your plans may change very close to the date.

Sadly, this was not a positive experience for my family…read more We participated in the one-hour trail ride and, upon returning to the stables, our guide specifically warned riders about the new horses located on the right side of the dismount area. My 12-year-old daughter is an experienced rider and followed the staff's instructions exactly. She waited until she was prompted to enter the designated dismount area, as directed by the staff. Unfortunately, following those instructions placed her directly adjacent to the horses that had been identified as a concern. As she entered the dismount area, one of the horses reached through the fence and bit her on the right thigh. The bite was severe enough that an attendant had to intervene to get the horse to release her. I immediately took my daughter to the restroom to assess the injury and document it with photographs. The bite occurred through her long pants. While I understand that horses are animals and that unpredictable situations can occur, I was disappointed by both the circumstances that led to the incident and the way it was handled afterward. My daughter followed the instructions she was given, yet the responsibility for the incident was ultimately placed on her. Given the prior warning about the horses, it is difficult to understand why riders were still being directed into such close proximity to them. Equally concerning was the lack of follow-up from management. The owner did not speak with us at the time of the incident, did not proactively reach out afterward, and only returned our call after multiple attempts and a more urgent message. Rather than expressing concern or discussing a reasonable resolution, the conversation was argumentative and dismissive. Accidents can happen, and a sincere apology along with an effort to address the situation would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. Between the safety concerns and the poor customer service that followed, I cannot recommend this business to others.

Knob Hill Ranch - California Riding & Hiking Trail

The first ride was a 2-hour sunset ride with my sister and niece, and the second was the 4-hour Wranger Special all by myself, only 3 weeks later, because this place is just that fun! All ranches that offer horseback riding are not equal. I have been to a couple ranches where they simply run it like a machine with little to no respect, having horses ride constantly throughout the day with little rest. Knob Hill Ranch takes a different approach, and after sitting with Madeline and Michael for a length of time after my 2nd ride, I learned that Knob Hill is on a different level than most ranches you'll encounter. Horses at Knob Hill are treated with such compassion and care. A horse only rides once a day, and that alone was enough for me to know I can trust the way this ranch is ran. They have a deep respect, for not only the horses, but the land as well, and you will feel it as soon as you get there. There is something sacred under the lands surface, and it feels as though the ranch is operating in such a beautiful way, because they're mirroring the sacred beauty and elegance that lies beneath the soil. Oh, and it's worth mentioning, they host equine therapy on their land as well, along with sound baths for folks. I mean, this ranch is dabbling into all things that revolve around healing and cultivating a calm and peaceful environment. Once you experience it, how could you not want to go back?! And for me, it's a 6 hour drive each way, totally worth it. After reading this novel of a review, it is clear this ranch is operating with a deep heart-centered intention, so they're not surface level folks running a machine to make money. And, if you're tired of surface level conversations about sports and weather, like myself, these are the folks you can dive deep into conversation with about life, and leave the surface level topics behind. They're providing an area on Earth for us to connect not only with horses and nature, but ourselves. Much gratitude toward Michael and Madeline!
