I wanted to take several classes before offering constructive reflections. I feel strongly these classes could be more impactful with some changes to the format. My three recommendations are: 1. Offer either longer working intervals or less complex movements - you can't get enough reps in doing both 2. Longer transition time when using equipment or moving from station to station 3. More focus on student form and coaching than offering praise Note: I attempted to provide this feedback via the QR code they provide inside the studio, but the link is broken per the photo. For a 10-person group fitness format, there needs to be more instructor engagement (helping students correct their form and offering modifications). I consistently see attendees using very poor form, but the instructors failed to address it. My guess is that it's because the intervals are so short, they have to focus on the timer. While they're good at using your name to offer praise and motivation, there's literally no coaching aspect to the class. For a 10 person class this is surprising. This leads me to the other predominant area of focus. I like that they keep the class "quick", but every instructor uses either 20 or 30 second intervals with 10 second breaks. When moving from station to station, or even from the floor to a standing position while managing equipment, it's impossible to get there in 10 seconds. This leads to an ineffective workout, since many of the instructors opt for compound movements. (Which are fun, but take longer). Because we lose time transitioning, I consistently am only able to get three, maybe four reps in before we are moving onto the next move. One class, a move was so complex, I only got one rep in because of the short interval with even shorter transition time to get from the floor to standing while picking up weights. Overall I like the space, the instructors are motivating and the equipment is new. But as mentioned, some focus on the format could really improve the program.

This is a review for workouts during my pregnancy (I'm currently 38 weeks pregnant). I also want to speak to how Yubalance has handled the COVID 19 pandemic. Yubalance continues to be my favorite workout in the city. I have been in a different life phase with a pregnancy and have appreciated that the trainers have graciously provided modifications to keep me safe, healthy, and fit! During the COVID 19 pandemic and quarantine, the zoom classes from home have been a life saver. The trainers effortlessly seem to be gifted at providing modifications for everyone whether it's due to not having equipment at home (weights, bands, etc), pregnancy, wrist/back issues....you name it, they are able to personalize classes and support each participant! The workouts are consistently safe and challenging. I have felt great during my pregnancy and attribute so much of that to the fact that I have been able to take Yubalance classes from home via zoom and now am able to take socially distanced classes at Precita park. I feel confident taking the socially distanced classes because Shawn (and other trainers) ensure that we are all spread out (well beyond 6 feet..closer to 12 feet actually!). They sanitize and disinfect resistant bands, mats, and equipment. The trainers are also 100% ok with us bringing our own mats and equipment (which I do) for an extra measure of safety. Thank you SO much Mecca, Shawn, Spencer, and Meika (and all the other amazing trainers) for all of your support and for keeping me healthy and feeling great during a pandemic and pregnancy. Thank you Rory and Shala for getting creative during this pandemic and finding ways to support and keep the Yubalance community safe and fit during very uncertain and unexpected time of a pandemic! If you have not taken a class with Yubalance - please try one! You will not be disappointed!!! The workouts are challenging while at the same time approachable, safe, and effective.

Luckily, intro drop-in classes were 2 for $35 (though my trip ended before I could do another class), $4 for wraps, $5 for glove rentals. Not too shabby given the gym is spacious, open, clean and welcoming. The front is a coffee shop so I was confused at first. There is ample room to wait, place your items in cubbies and use their clean locker rooms prior to class. You are also welcome to hop in to warm up but they will warm you up and make you question whether that in itself was the workout. Had a great class with Coach Paulo -- he trained with us and showed us a bit of his beast mode. Since most folks had established partners, I was able to work with him and he took the time to ensure none of us were left behind. We practiced with group drills around the bags, footwork, endurance and partner drills on the bags, ultimately ending with abs. One point I really enjoyed is that he was so welcoming to southpaws, as he had initially trained as one in his early days. He also worked with each of us and gave us tips to improve our form, which is very important. My entire experience was pleasant (except for my legs and breath giving out) and our class size being smaller than the previous really helped. I look forward to going back to The Park Gym in a heartbeat when I'm in town.

I'll admit that walking in that very first time felt a bit intimidating at first since another class had just ended, but it also gave a glimpse of what the regular classes are like. Coach Chris went through an intro of the studio, fitness, class, and more. He walked us through a warmup and intro workout, including alignment details and any modifications if needed. Following that intro, we signed up for their Group Elements month for beginners (to attend Elements and Crossfit Lite classes at any of their gym locations), then ultimately tested out to join the regular Crossfit classes. Each coach's teaching/training style is a bit different, so it has been helpful to get a sense of their style and learn from the different cues and adjustments they suggested. I won't lie, the classes are challenging and downright hard most of the time, but the coaches work with you to find your level and then push you and encourage you to what they think you can do so you can improve and grow. While going to crossfit started as a curiosity aftering seeing an ad on IG (especially as someone who grew up without an athletic or even a movement background), CFSP has since motivated me to keep pushing through to see what my strengths are and what else I'm capable of!

She was so friendly and welcoming from the get go. I knew it was going to be a fun one! My favorite thing about Epic is that no class is the same. This was super high energy and cardio focused with eight rounds we did FIVE times. I was sore for days! It's only 45 minutes including the warmup and cool down, but you really get a ton out of it. The studio itself is smaller than the one I'm used to but there were about eight people that came and room for everyone to move about. I originally saw a 6-week challenge ad on Facebook and I thought, hey why not. I saw this as a really great way to launch my fitness journey and kick-start a new me! After a few email exchanges, I worked with Jenn P. to set me up for the 6-weeks. She also took some measurements / pictures and loaded me up with information on how to eat and how to prepare for the challenge with EPIC. I worked hard and showed up to classes 5 days a week and ate according to the meal plan. I really enjoyed the classes and I loved how encouraging all of the instructors were during the challenge. All of the instructors were so friendly and really encouraged me to extend myself a little more or push a little harder and I really think that was key in my workouts. I mean, who doesn't work harder when people are rooting for them? I didn't really lose any weight for this challenge, but it wasn't really my goal to. What i did get was a new-found appreciation for workouts that challenge you and are super fun, but don't leave you feeling like you've been hit by a bus. I also accomplished two major things during my 6 weeks - being able to complete the traverse down and back again and make it to the top of the rope climb. Feeling super positive about what is to come in the next 6 weeks of my fitness journey, but I can tell you that this is the lowest body fat percentage I've been at in a WHILE! :)
