Epic is sooo sick. I f*ckin love it. I first discovered Epic on Classpass and recently participated in one of their challenges, which was very very fun. I've never enjoyed waking up for a 6:30am class as much as this one :) All of the coaches are super duper nice (Kayleigh you're my fave!) AND they make sure your form is correct. Their showers are also very clean and always on their A+ game, stocked with everything you need (shampoo, body wash, conditioner, petroleum jelly, q-tips, deodorant) etc which helps me pack light! :) Thanks Epic you're the best!

confession: i've been cheating on my woman. main roni is dope and all but the sidepiece got the #algreen youuuuuu make me feel so brand newwwww the puss- ahem the puzzles i gotta figure out not just physically but mentally. thangs to grab n move n jump on top. lol i'm talking about gyms not actual ppl :p this facility is DECEPTIVELY SIMPLE. straightforward room w padded floor & 1 padded wall, all kindsa equipment everywhere. blank room quickly becomes 8 exercise stations for 45 mins of fml via ## seconds on 15ish off circuit x multiple rounds. the CLASS FORMAT was always 8 stations, but you don't know what each station is till you arrive. depending on the day it was 30 / 40 / 60 seconds of ideally nonstop work punctuated by 15ish seconds for you to catch your breath & rotate stations. each day works the entire body, ie, there's no "leg day" (thank gawd), "arm day", etc.. think kettlebells, sandbags, trx, box jumps, rings / bars, body weight, et al. expect to wake up sore in body parts you didn't know you had. not just physical but MENTAL CHALLENGE. something indescribably delicious when a challengingazz exercise is put in front of me that i have to get my head around to make my body achieve it. the kneeling-to-6"-box-jump-squat shzz? mmm. and that was just the beginning. ok #gymnerdmoment over. the INSTRUCTORS do a good job of sequencing the stations to mix muscle groups so you don't wear out any particular bodily areas too much at once. they're good at demoing "levels" and modifications so you can ease or toughen each exercise as needed. they also constantly observe to correct / encourage / challenge us. always positive = no drill sergeants. they keep it SO FRESH N SO CLEAN CLEAN. throughout class the instructor would run around with a swifferesque mop thing to remove sweat puddles. might be the only gym where i've seen staff being this proactive about giving you a fresh environment. are the exercises SAFE FOR INJURIES? make sure to 1) let the instructor know your issue(s) and 2) resist getting carried away in each round which involves the concerned body parts. ::shrug:: i myself attended 4 of a planned 6 days bc i somehow reawakened an old injury. not this place's fault - guess i went too beast, got too caught up in the fundrenaline. office people CLASS SCHEDULE. they currently run 5 weekday classes: 7am, 8am, 12:15pm, 5:30pm (5pm Fri), 6:30pm (6pm Fri); and 2 weekend classes: 9am, 10am. either your job / life schedule fits with this or it doesn't. **s'why i'm sticking with 4.5 stars for now** i wonder if timeslots will expand as more ppl enroll. depends on YOUR GOALS. if you're looking to beef up or if you want to get back into exercise after being glued to the couch for the past year, idk if this is the first place i'd go. if you're fairly competent being shown new movements then replicating them and you want to get toned all over or increase mind-body coordination or improve your explosiveness... this place. i don't just want to return i feel an inner need to. thank you instructors Teddy & Dan!

Let me count the ways how much I miss and love Equinox…read more Yes, I know--it's a high-end gym. But you truly get what you pay for. I was a member of this location for over a decade, and since moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, I can honestly say there is nothing quite like it. The nearest one to me now is in Atlanta, and I still miss the San Mateo club regularly. This location has everything you could possibly want in a fitness facility--and then some. The Fitness Floor Downstairs is a beautifully air-conditioned workout space designed for people who are serious about exercising. No distractions, no crowds hovering by the windows--just a clean, focused environment. You'll find: * Full weight training equipment * Recumbent bikes, ellipticals, and treadmills * Dedicated spin, Pilates, TRX, and group fitness studios * A large open stretching area with foam rollers * Cold, filtered water stations throughout * Staff available for spotting if you're training solo It's efficient, professional, and thoughtfully designed. Locker Rooms & Amenities The locker rooms feel more like a boutique hotel than a gym. They are consistently spotless and fully stocked with: * Plush towel service * Spacious showers with teak benches * Steam rooms infused with eucalyptus * Complimentary razors, Q-tips, and personal care items * Premium Kiehl's products It's luxurious, yes--but also incredibly practical. You can comfortably get ready for work, dinner, or travel without feeling rushed. The Rooftop Pool One of the standout features is the heated rooftop pool. It has multiple lap lanes, cabanas, and water aerobics equipment, and it truly feels like a mini country club in the middle of downtown San Mateo. The pool is heated year-round, which means you can swim in any season--something you quickly get spoiled by. They even provide sunscreen from Supergoop!, along with full towel service. It's those little details that make the experience feel elevated. Classes, Spa & Services The class offerings are extensive and easy to manage through the app. Signing in is seamless--just scan your phone and go. Highlights include: * Yoga in a beautiful bamboo studio with HEPA filtration and ceiling fans * Pilates (available as private, duo, or small-group sessions) * A full-service spa on the upper level * A juice bar and retail shop featuring premium fitness apparel Everything feels intentional, polished, and well-maintained. Location & Convenience The club is located right in the heart of downtown San Mateo, making it incredibly walkable. There are restaurants, grocery stores, and cafés nearby, including one of my favorite bakeries and specialty markets. Parking is also surprisingly easy for a downtown location: * Two-hour validation * Surface lot, garage, and rooftop parking options That convenience makes a big difference in daily use. Value & Membership Yes, membership can be expensive. However, many employers offer corporate discounts, which can make the cost more manageable. In my case, the value absolutely justified the price because I used the facility regularly and took advantage of the amenities. Even when I relocated, canceling my membership was straightforward and professional--no pressure, no hassle. Bottom Line Equinox San Mateo set the standard for what a fitness club should be: clean, thoughtfully designed, service-oriented, and genuinely enjoyable to use. If I ever move to another city with an Equinox, I will join again without hesitation. Because at the end of the day-- life is short, and you should live well.

I'll admit that walking in that very first time felt a bit intimidating at first since another class had just ended, but it also gave a glimpse of what the regular classes are like. Coach Chris went through an intro of the studio, fitness, class, and more. He walked us through a warmup and intro workout, including alignment details and any modifications if needed. Following that intro, we signed up for their Group Elements month for beginners (to attend Elements and Crossfit Lite classes at any of their gym locations), then ultimately tested out to join the regular Crossfit classes. Each coach's teaching/training style is a bit different, so it has been helpful to get a sense of their style and learn from the different cues and adjustments they suggested. I won't lie, the classes are challenging and downright hard most of the time, but the coaches work with you to find your level and then push you and encourage you to what they think you can do so you can improve and grow. While going to crossfit started as a curiosity aftering seeing an ad on IG (especially as someone who grew up without an athletic or even a movement background), CFSP has since motivated me to keep pushing through to see what my strengths are and what else I'm capable of!
