This is my review for Albert Beltran, my trainer at Fitness SF SoMa:…read more I've been training with Albert three times a week since the end of March, with a focus on body recomposition and muscular hypertrophy. Since then, I've made meaningful progress across the board--not just in strength and body composition, but also in conditioning, mobility, technique, and mindset. Albert has an athletic and professional coaching style, and what I appreciate most is that he trains me like an athlete. He understands my previous training background and builds on it rather than taking a generic approach. His programming is always well structured, he explains technique clearly, notices small details in movement, adapts sessions when needed, and knows how to push me without compromising recovery or preparation. Since we started working together, I've lost about 5 pounds of fat and gained about 6 pounds of muscle. I'm also regaining strength and technique much faster than I expected. Just as importantly, Albert has helped me become more patient with the process and has consistently reinforced the importance of recovery between sessions. He is very good at making sure I'm properly conditioned for the work we're doing rather than simply throwing harder workouts at me for the sake of intensity. The gym is always clean, sessions are organized, and communication has been excellent. I would highly recommend Albert to anyone looking for more than just aesthetic changes. If your goal is to improve athletic performance, become stronger and better conditioned, and genuinely challenge yourself with intelligent coaching, he's an excellent trainer to work with.

Fitness SF SOMA is a great gym! Love that the location is near Costco, Trader Joe's and Rainbow if…read moreI have a lot of errands to run I can also hit those spots. I've been to the Transbay and Castro locations and am excited to see what they have in store for Polk. I have a friend that likes to swim at their Fillmore location as well. I adore the dog room they have at SOMA and it always brightens my day seeing the cute furry faces. I feel like this gym is a lil pricey without the special, with the special I have its about $100/month, on their website it's $135ish rn. The most I've paid in the city was $125 and that was a family owned small business. I wouldn't pay $135 tbh. I do appreciate that there are multiple locations you can go to and experience tho. SOMA is my go to as it has the most equipment and free weights and is closer to me. Trans bay does feel a lot cleaner and newer but also I feel like I'm walking up and down a lot and the flow of the machines isn't as good imo. Castro is pretty tiny ngl but they can't really control that. During busy times the wait for machines isn't too long and there's more duplicates of equipment compared to the other locations I've been to. Plenty of squat racks on both sides of the gym with platforms which is really nice and 3 different areas with free weights. They provide chalk which has helped me with my lifts and grip strength goals. I do think the locker rooms for the women could be modernized a little more like transbay but it's good for what it is tbh as they provide feminine products and hair dryers. I do want to try the sauna and massage chairs. I've also used the InBody scanner and theraguns. The SOMA location also has ample parking nearby that isn't paid parking so that's nice too and also a Lyft bike stop. I have had a friend who's light was stolen outside tho so I would be mindful if you're biking here. Overall, would recommend if it's in your budget and you are nearby. Random but I loved how they decorated it during Pride wish it was like that all year lmao Anyways I will say I agree with the other reviewers about BO but it's a gym and ppl get musty/musky, you might smell some B.O. occasionally but it's temporary and then you end your workout seeing an adorable doggo so then you forget lolll

It's one of the few times I really get to focus on taking care of myself. Fridays are especially challenging for me personally, so I started scheduling my sessions in the evenings after a particularly stressful part of my week. Eddy has honestly been such a blessing. Even though I haven't really discussed with him how hectic my life can be, he's taught me different warm-up, breathing, and relaxation techniques that have helped me feel more grounded and relaxed. I didn't even realize how much tension I was carrying until I noticed how different I felt after our sessions. I'm relatively new to the gym, and Eddy is so kind and patient that I feel completely comfortable asking him questions. He doesn't just tell me what to do, he teaches me along the way, explains proper body mechanics, and makes sure I understand what I'm doing and why. I'm very grateful for my time training with him. Having a space where I can learn, decompress, and take care of myself for a little while has meant a lot to me all while he helps me reach my fitness goals. Thank you, Eddy!

I've had an increasingly frustrating experience with this City Sports location and finally decided…read moreto cancel my membership. The gym is consistently overcrowded, multiple machines are ALWAYS broken or out of service, and the sanitizing wipe stations are regularly empty, which is especially frustrating and unsanitary when you're expected to clean equipment after use. My cancellation experience was the final straw. I went into the gym to cancel and was told I had to submit the request by email, which I did immediately while I was there. My autopay processed before my cancellation was handled. I asked whether they could make a one-time exception and refund that payment given that I had already initiated the cancellation before the charge went through. Alyssa, the Operations Manager, called me regarding the issue and refused to make any exception and just blamed the old manager for the situation of the gym. I understand businesses have policies, but the way the situation was handled felt completely lacking in customer service.

About two months ago, I joined SF Fitness because it's the only gym in my area with a swimming…read morepool. Even though the membership costs over $100 per month, and I knew I would only be able to use it a few times each month due to my schedule, I decided it was still worth joining so I could swim. Overall, I would rate the facility about 2.5 out of 5 stars. The staff does make an effort to keep the gym clean, but because it gets so busy, some areas can still be messy at times. The main reason I joined was for the swimming pool. Unfortunately, I found that the pool is almost always crowded. I tried visiting on different days and at different times, but most of the time all the lanes were occupied. Occasionally I could swim right away, but more often I had to wait anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes before a lane became available. However, the biggest reason I'm giving this gym only 2 stars has nothing to do with the pool--it's because of security and parking. My primary transportation is an electric scooter. I initially tried driving and parking in the garage, but I repeatedly experienced problems with the parking gate. On several occasions it took me 10-15 minutes just to leave because the security gate malfunctioned and someone from the Fillmore Center had to come reset it. It was frustrating, especially when I was in a hurry. Because of that, I started riding my electric scooter instead. I used it only three times. On my third visit, I locked my brand-new scooter with a $60 security lock to the bike rack directly in front of the main entrance, where people are constantly walking in and out. After my swim, I came back and my scooter was gone. I immediately reported the theft to the front desk. They told me they were not responsible and that I needed to contact Fillmore Center Security. When I contacted them, they said they first needed a police report before they could assist me. I went to the police station, filed a report, and returned with the paperwork. I then asked what they could do to help. They said they would review the security camera footage to try to identify the person who stole my scooter. Since it happened right at the main entrance, I believed the cameras would clearly capture the incident. I was then told to come back the next day to speak with the security manager, Sean. Unfortunately, he wasn't available. After several unsuccessful attempts, I finally obtained his direct phone number from the security department. I texted Sean multiple times explaining that my insurance company could not process my claim without the surveillance footage. He repeatedly told me he would send the footage to my insurance company. Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. Despite his assurances, my insurance company never received anything. Eventually, my messages went unanswered. This was extremely disappointing because obtaining the footage should have been straightforward if the security cameras were functioning properly. Without that evidence, I couldn't complete my insurance claim for my stolen scooter. At that point, I decided to cancel my membership. Because of my busy schedule, my scooter is my primary way of getting to the gym. If I don't feel confident that it will be safe--or that I'll receive meaningful assistance if something happens--it's simply not worth the risk. After reading other online reviews, I realized I wasn't the only person who had experienced security-related issues at this location. That was even more discouraging. I'm not writing this review to discourage everyone from joining SF Fitness. If you walk to the gym or have another reliable way to get there, you may have a completely different experience. My purpose is simply to warn those who rely on electric scooters or bicycles as their primary transportation. Be aware of the potential risks, and understand that if your property is stolen, you may find it difficult to get the assistance or documentation needed afterward. I genuinely hope my experience helps others make an informed decision before joining.

It was a $40 class not including the tax and fee. When I arrived after my 1 hour bus commute from the Marina using the 22, Ricky checked me in after I showed my online purchase and I was actually very earlier. About 40 mins so I went in to change and had enough time to utilize their locker -love their 4 lock combo- then went on a little walk to enjoy the view before class. When I got back I saw the gym quite busy. I felt inspired by all the fit looking people in the gym. Angela was instructing her Hyrox class and as soon as it was 5:30pm the doors opened and I walked in the far part to the class. This was honestly my first StrongFit Class. I read the description and just went in with it as I am avid swimmer and work on accessories lightweight. I am was so happy to see that we were not running a whole lot. Light jog, then went to a warm up and then went in the circuits. Two circuits were intense! But I loved how I felt! What I loved was partnering up and the feeling of welcoming vibes from Dan my partner and other members in the class. Dan was very helpful and strong in switching weight on our barbell. While I was doing the deadlifts -- I don't do often -- I'm thankful to Angela for the adjustments that made me feel it more on my lats and I liked the feeling of an engaged back. Another circuit was the over head press squat. With an adjustment from Angela I felt more confident vs my narrow grip. I was overjoyed taking this session and the energy Angela and other members brought. If you're thinking of taking a class here to feel strong and have some experience and want to build community, I highly recommend you check it out too but if you sweat a lot like me, make sure to bring a water bottle and a towel.
