This place is huge and they have a massive inventory of all things sports related. It's nice that you can still walk into a place and touch and feel the merchandise you might be interested in. On this visit, it was to look for a youth softball mitt that I will be gifting to one of the grand-darlings. The last time I was in a DICK's, it was to buy a White Sox cap and it was a couple years back when they were doing a wee bit better than they are this year! The pricing here does generally seem a bit elevated but that comes with the brick-and mortar business and the privilege of inspecting what you're buying. Who remembers Sportsmart, or Sports Authority, or further back Herman's? They're all gone now, and I think DICK's is it these days for sporting goods. I'm glad they are still at it for us.

Returns with the receipt or the app are very quick. There's usually always someone available on the floor that is willing to assist. Sometimes you can find a good deal in store and lately there have been better deals on shoes (Hokas, Nikes) then I've seen in other stores. I wanted to give a special shout out to the 'heavy lifting' crew that helped me with moving a ping pong table. They attempted to place it in my van every which way in the freezing cold, which was unfortunately too small. I came back the following day and a couple of the guys did remember me quickly brought out the table, and they were very friendly and extremely helpful.

Despite this, I went ahead and placed another order through their website--a decision I now regret. While I understand that any company can experience rough patches, my concerns grew after reading similar complaints on Facebook. There, it became clear that my situation was not unique; numerous customers had shared stories of what appeared to be chronic service issues at Optics Planet. Order Timeline and Issues * On December 10, I ordered a TruGlo Brite-Site TFX Pro Sight. * The package arrived at the Fox Valley, IL facility on December 10 at 4:52 PM. * Allegedly, the item was held there until December 17 at 2:18 PM. Since that time, it has been stuck at the Kansas City, KS Distribution Center USPS Regional Facility, with the tracking status showing "enroute" for the past five days. * There has been no updated forecast for movement from that location. Customer Service Interaction I contacted Optics Planet and spoke with Kevin from Customer Service. After placing me on hold for about two minutes to investigate, Kevin returned with the same tracking information I had already accessed online. He informed me that deliveries typically take 6-7 working days and stated I should expect my order on the 4th. Since December 4 had already passed, he clarified that the intended date was January 4, 2026. Ongoing Frustrations and Community Feedback Like many other Optics Planet customers, I find the extended time between placing an order and receiving the product to be unreasonably long. Hoping to alert others, I documented my experience, only to discover through Facebook research that many others had faced similar problems and had already shared their grievances online. Given these recurring issues, both in my experience and those of others, I have decided to discontinue my patronage with Optics Planet and take my business elsewhere. Review of Recent Optics Planet Order Experience Revaluating My Perspective Okay, my conscience was tapping on my shoulder. Perhaps I was too judgmental, too critical, and too quick to put Optics Planet in my sights as a candidate to remove from my list of favored vendors. In an effort to address this potential oversight and to soften my critique, I decided to review my order history for more context. Order History Review and Ongoing Issues I discovered that I had two additional products in my order placed on September 25, 2025 (Order #29685194), which remain listed as "In Processing" with an expected shipping date of 01/01/2026. This is frustrating, as I make it a point not to buy back-ordered items; with my busy schedule, I do not want to risk forgetting that I purchased an item and then unintentionally ordering it again later. To avoid this, I always note anticipated delivery dates in my online calendar, using the information vendors send to my email. Continued Product Availability Concerns My follow-up investigation revealed that, as of today, both items from my September 25, 2025, order are still actively available for sale on the Optics Planet website. Nowhere on the product pages for these items does it indicate that they are on back order. Based upon the aforementioned information, how would you rate this company?!
