I also had the unfortunate pleasure of arriving at the same time the local mums' group overtakes the joint (around 2pm on a weekday, if you're wondering). The gals were well-behaved as were their brood. However, one of them, hot-blooded I guess, decided she was 'too hot' and asked if she could open the door (while simultaneously opening the front door of the cafe WIDE) thus killing my toasty buzz and replacing it with frosty chill. I sat out the remainder of my short stay in my coat. I'm sure that the pastries might be tasty, and the sourdough sour, but I'd do well to dash in and out for that sort of thing, and not hang around for a nibble and cuppa, if I'd ever go back at all.

The barista and coffee shop staff were so patient and nice - especially when I inquired about ingredients in the pastries and asked to have my Spinach Ricotta Roll heated. Overall it was a great experience - good food, good coffee, and exceptional service. Food-wise: we got a spinach ricotta roll and a custard croissant - and loved both. The spinach ricotta roll was a perfect combination of your comfort hot breakfast with egg + spinach + cheese, plus the flaky buttery outer-layer of a croissant. There was also a bit of spicy kick to it - which I loved! Remember to ask for it to be heated. The custard-filled croissant was also heavenly creamy, with the buttery outer-layer of a croissant, this can be enjoyed at room temperature. Drink-wise: we got a Americano and a flatwhite, which were both really good and hot - definitely woke us up for the early morning / jetlag, which helped prep us for day! They also had some nice tables inside the coffee shop to sit and enjoy your food - so it's also a great place to bring your laptops to. Overall - nothing helps more to start a great morning like a great breakfast, and I think this place had the magic that turned our cloudy morning into a great sunny day - would definitely revisit when I'm back in the UK!

This is some of the best coffee I've had in 6 months or more. Bear in mind, I'm from Portland,…read moreOregon -- one of the coffee capitals of the world. We're quite proud of our coffee scene, and Butter Bakery could beat out most of the options in Portland. I had an oat milk latte and an americano, plus a few food items. Let's start with the americano. Now, I'll admit, I'm not the most skilled barista. I have some sense of how to pull a shot of espresso, but I'm not brilliant at it. With that as context: I do not exaggerate when I say there was more of that delicious creamy head on the americano than I've managed on some straight shots I've pulled. The espresso roast was subtle and sweet -- I waited too long to write this review, so I couldn't cite precise notes, but this is definitely a roast I could enjoy sipping on and slowly analyzing, while still being very approachable. The americano was perhaps a tiny hair more diluted than I would have liked, but it didn't quite reach "watery" either. I choose to see this as a deliberate choice to further open up the profile of the espresso. The oat latte was expertly foamed, with the right amount of oat milk so as not to overwhelm the espresso. It was on the dry side, almost a cappuccino, which is exactly what I prefer in a latte (if I wanted a cortado, I'd ask for a cortado). I don't know which oat milk they use, but it was sweet and creamy and simple and complemented the espresso beautifully. There's also a food menu that, while not hugely extensive, is packed full of gems. I very much enjoyed the pesto mozzarella tomato panini with extremely its fresh ingredients. It's about the size you'd expect for a cafe panini, and thus a bit more expensive than I'm comfortable with, but I'll chalk that up to the location -- compared with other local options, Butter Bakery Bar and Cafe is absolutely a contender for a budget lunch. Lastly, I'll just mention: I did not try the Mediterranean mains options, so I can't speak to their quality, but seeing things like mezze on a cafe menu is a nice change of pace.

Within 5 minutes my order was delivered. The latte art was poorly constructed but that wasn't a big deal for me.
