We had an electrical 'emergency' involving our kitchen fluorescents (ever try to cook in the dark?) and the potential solutions were mostly beyond my abilities. So - to the phones! Initially, we called Young's because they were the only electrician still answering the phones at that hour - but I was immediately impressed with Hannah's friendliness, professionalism and especially her willingness to answer the phone after the posted end-of-day. We set up an appointment. Young's is very good at keeping you informed of scheduling, arrival times etc. via the method(s) of your choice: home phone, cell phone, text messaging, etc. This came in handy because they were able to arrive three hours earlier than our initial appointment - and that worked very well for our day's schedule. Andrew was our serviceman, and he was knowledgeable, courteous, quick and efficient. He diagnosed, and repaired our issue effectively, He even graciously put up with my nattering. All in all, a fine young man. The cost for repairs and parts were very reasonable, and the invoicing was clear and understandable. I highly recommend this company to handle your electrical needs. Great Experience! James came to our house to provide an estimate to bring power to a Moen Leak detector outside our house and gave us a very fair price on the installation. I was concerned about adding an outlet to our faux stone veneer on our exterior but James sank the outlet into the stone so it was close to flush and made it look great. While at our house we asked James to look at another project in our house: install an outlet in what is called the "Butler's Pantry." We had no power in this area for years and another electrician said he wouldn't do the work as it required going through a tile backsplash. James came up with a perfect inexpensive workaround and that was to add an outlet to the switch and he did the work on the spot. It also looks great. 11/7/2018: The City Of Placerville Building Inspector, JV Campos visited my house today inspecting the solar HVAC System installed. Westhaven Solar stepped away getting a bite to eat at Raley's while waiting for Mr. Campos' arrival. While waiting, Mr. Campos quietly inspected James Young's Diode LED installation . . . Mr. Campos nodded his head as a sign of approval quipping, "Nice." Whatever "nice" means, right? At least, Mr. Campos didn't comment anything negative WHICH IS A GOOD THING, right? I must state I held my breath as I observed him reviewing tracing wire connections from left to the right side above the refrigerator with his eyes looking back and forth~EEEEK! THEN-Mr. Campos stated, "Interesting." Walked outside towards the electrical service panel inspecting all the extra amperages recently installed; he walked around to the backyard subtly looking at all the added illumination then, he stated he wanted to check the attic access . . . Oh, boy~Sweating bricks NOW! While checking the attic, Mr. Campos inspected the HVAC PLUS, he inadvertently began inspecting the electrical wiring installed . . . Still sweating ton o' bricks~SHISH! Young's electric did it again. When I talk to people about customer service, Young's is some I bring up as an example of what people should expect and reward for quality work, done right the first time, and standing behind that work. We had a weird electrical issue after having a roofing company install a whole house fan as part of a roofing package. Fast forward 9 months and we start having issues with a tripping circuit that shut down the fan and our AC. I called Hanna at Young's and they sent James out the same day, realized the load on the circuit was to much, something the other company didn't look for, and then replaced the circuit free of charge. I expected to pay for the service, after they sent James out the same day I called, within hours, saying they didn't want us without AC when it is getting hot outside. But nope, James said he was happy to help us out and he stood by the job he did over 3 years ago, no charge. They needed to replace the ballasts on a large Kitchen lighting fixture so it could accept LED tubes and install a new light fixture on my kitchen porch. Giving you all an update. I had left a 5 star review for Youngs Electric when James came out to my house for a electrical outlet that had popped in my garage causing a spark. I had just moved into my home, and that really worried me. James arrived and started diagnosing the problem. He went out to my electric panel and said that he strongly advised I needed a whole new panel, he said the one that I had there was a recall back in the 90's due to it catching on fire. I didn't question it, being a first time homeowner and trusting. It cost 1,900 and some. I remember looking at the panel after he left and being confused by the way he labeled it. Not knowing any better, I didn't call him on it, I just felt relieved and felt I dodged a possible fire now that I had the new panel. It wasn't till last week when I had to go out to the panel because I kept having a breaker trip everytime I put the swamp cooler on. I didn't use my swamp cooler first few years I lived here, only a couple times. So last week, it tripped several times, turning off everything in family room, hallway lights, porch lights, garage door and lights, everything in my spare room and of course the swamp cooler. The last time I went outside to flip the switch, which was a 15amp switch for all that I listed, the switch was so hot to the touch! That scared me! I called first thing in the morning and Hannah was very nice and got James to give me a call, so I could tell him what was going on. He called and said he could come out next day to look. He showed up and seemed totally annoyed! I told him, I'm pretty sure that a swamp cooler needs its own switch and there's way too many on the 15amp, I also told and showed him how he labeled the panel and how it was incomplete and not legible. He said ya well looks like it faded, I said no it's not labeled. He then said, ya when he put the new panel in he just copied and wired everything exactly the same way it was. Then he said, well ya it should have its own switch. He then said, well it's not under warranty anymore, it's past 4yrs. I said well I feel it should have been correctly the first time. He then said, fine but I'm going to have to charge you a service fee, $150 for coming out to my house! He said he might have the part in his van. When he got the part and walked back to the panel, I said $150? I don't think that I should have to pay for something that should have been done the first time. He got so annoyed, said fine that's just fine I'm not worried about it whatever. It took him no more than 7 minutes to fix it! He said, turn your swamp cooler on, I went inside turned it on and waited...My boyfriend came inside and said, that guy is so unprofessional! He left, he just left! Got in his van and took off without saying another word! My house could've caught fire! I hope this review helps anyone looking for an honest professional electrician. That being said, I do not recommend Youngs Electric, and have no choice but to give a one star rating. Very disappointed. read more

Pros: Estimate for installation of a new electric panel was done by a pleasant staff member, we were contacted quickly about the total cost, and the appointment was easy to make. They apologized for goop mess. James came back a month or so later to re-goop the intersection between pole and roof due to some water issues. Cons: Clean up of goop on the cement and the deck, plus leaving the old panel (FYI: we were told later that in order for them to have taken the old equipment, we should have put that in the contract for extra cost, tho that was never even mentioned during the estimate), and an issue with a hole left under the eaves where they had to put in the pole (which they left without notifying us that it was there - we discovered it later). However, we just discovered another issue today. The panel was not secured, instead of screwing it into a stud, it is just screwed into the siding. This is not a professional way to install an electric panel. We are sorely disappointed in this discovery, and due to it, I feel I must warn future customers. read more

I want to be fair in this review and so just sharing facts that the business owner is already aware of. First is the fee: $315 for no more than an hour and a half. That's $200 per hour, for a non-licensed young man who had to call for instructions. This was labor only, noting that the product I purchased from Home Depot did not come with light bulbs I had to run out and buy them. (My late husband was an electrician and always supplied light bulbs when needed.) I am also unhappy that the technician did not fix one of my tasks-a glowing LED light. Business owner said he "doesn't do bandaids." Checked with PG&E and there are no issues with my electrical and the owner inferred rewiring. I'd rather have the bandaid since it is a harmless solution. Very disappointing. read more
