I bought a Cross pen here and within a couple of weeks, the clip fell off. I only used it to clip…read morethe pen to the inside breast pocket of my blazer, which I consider normal use. I mean, that's what it's for, right? For $100, I expect a pen to last longer than that before falling apart. They really, truly don't make 'em like they used to. I didn't actually have a receipt, but I did have the credit transaction in the app on my phone. And the employee at the register replaced the pen, just like that. In and out in five minutes. Excellent customer service! I unfortunately failed to ask the gentleman's name, but it was around 10 am on a Friday. I love this place, and I hope they never go under.

When you think of San Francisco legacy business the first companies come to mind is Ghirardelli…read moreChocolate Company , Levi's Strauss, and Boudin Bakery which had their starts in the 1800's. Downtown San Francisco has blocks and blocks of different businesses. It's hard to find lots of businesses in SF which had its start within the 1800's ( not the address number but the years of the 1800's) in San Francisco. My childhood apartment in San Francisco in the Mission was my backyard and shared the same backyard with the Elixir ( one of oldest bar in San Francisco established in 1858) .When it comes to the years of technology companies which have been in business for over 20 years it seems more like 20 dog years which is the equivalent to 100 human years. There a few businesses which are over 100 years old in San Francisco and fewer that are over 150 years old in human years. There is a family owned business in San Francisco which started over 150 years ago and still exists on Market street and it's called Patrick & Co. Walking down Market street the vibe of downtown San Francisco is a blend of vintage and modern with a mix of the future. Walking past the See's Candies and The Paris Baguette and inside Patrick & Co., you will see lots of office supplies . You will also find many fun items like calendars , cards , journals, stationaries, and interesting books. You will also see anything from Hello Kitty bags to stickers of animated animals and food. This is a good place to pick up some original design greeting cards along with the pens and markers. This place is over 150 years old in San Francisco and the business feels timeless. Come visit and witness an historical San Francisco business with a modern feel. Go to a place which has supplies for business that can be "internal"or for personal secrets like getting a diary or "journal" this is one of the San Francisco businesses that's still exist and seems "eternal"and was around when Custer was still an United States Army "Colonel" This place is still open for business after 150 years in human years its considered "geriatric" hats off to the company in SF name "Patrick"it is a business that's been in business without getting " theatric"and still ticking for over 150 years all organic without a cheap trick just a consistence "hat trick"

A solid Corporate Office Furniture Design group... they create liveable, workable, functional space…read morefor your offices, businesses, etc. I am coming from the small business side, and have to admit I am incredibly impressed with them. I own a small hotel consulting firm, it is just me... and days I am not meeting clients I am fairly dressed down. Well I misunderstood they were a corporate place, vs a normal office depot style store where I could purchase a chair.... and they took my misinformed, confused, dressed down, cold calling, nobody no-name self and treated my like royalty. I was DULY impressed, as they patiently showed me $800 - $5000 chairs slightly outside of my price range. Christina, possibly a principal and definitely the Director of Design & a project manager, stopped her busy day and schedule to sit with me and talk about my needs, and what they might be able to offer. I settled firmly on the ES Sum Highback Task Chair as versatile, comfortable, and overwhelmingly badass. Then the next day prior to purchasing I realized I am just a man in a small home office, started to cry that I would never have that chair, curled into the fetal position in my clothes in the dark bathroom, wrapped in the shower curtain, silently sobbing between gulps from a plastic bottle of vodka. Business is going great though. christina director of design and PM; ES Sum Highback Task Chair badass

It's really difficult these days to find stores in San Francisco that have ergonomic desk chairs…read moreavailable on the sales floor for you to try out, so I'm especially grateful for Relax the Back for filling this niche. This review is based on our two visits to and telephone/email interactions with the folks at the Van Ness Relax The Back location. John and Tim helped us find the desk chair that would be able to best accommodate with the support my partner needed for his back as he works long hours and recently had back surgery. John and Tim are friendly and easygoing people. They're happy to take the time to show you what they know, their inventory, discuss pros and cons of each item and inform you of all the ways you can customize your computer chair. They're NOT pushy salespeople and sent us off with a price quote on the chair we were most interested in to allow us time to consider, budget, and compare it with other options on the market. I called the store and spoke with John, letting him know that we wanted to proceed with the order and John emailed me a copy of the receipt We had the chair delivered to the store such that John and Tim could help us assemble it carefully and make sure everything was good to go. Friendly, patient, down-to-earth individuals who respect their customers' space. I would return to them for their inventory to select from and the pressure-free environment. Other folks will complain about prices. Let's put this in perspective: yes, it's going to cost more than your little two-hundred-dollar crap desk chair from IKEA. That's what we had been using - clearly it wasn't working and got us to where we are now. We are shopping as a preventative measure to keep my partner's back from deteriorating with age. We don't want surgery again - and regardless of your insurance, that surgery will cost you way more than what this chair costs you. I'm happy to invest and pay extra for a chair that was thoughtfully designed and intended to support the human back if it means it's going to last a lifetime and lead to better quality of life down the road. Thank you John for your patience, for showing us your selection, and helping me to process the transaction and thank you Timothy for helping us to assemble the chair, your humor, and the reminders about steps to take to make sure the chair lasts us a long time. :)

After moving into our SOMA loft 12 years ago, we started to acquire a taste for stainless steel…read morefurniture and had purchased a couple of pieces from SS21. He has the most exquisite taste and extensive knowledge for vintage stainless steel furniture, and furniture in general. The original crappy wooden cabinets that came with our place were falling apart and had to be replaced. Our kitchen is small so I didn't expect it too cost too much, but got sticker shock when I went to Cabinets and Beyond for wooden cabinets that I didn't even like. We just happened to be walking around, depressed, in the vicinity of SS21, and my wife suggested we check them out. Cy, the owner, remembered us as customers from years ago and told us he had branched out a bit. My wife half-jokimgly asked him if he had kitchen cabinets, and wouldn't you know it, he had just acquired a bunch of vintage hospital cabinets that might fit. He showed us them, and photos of his mom's kitchen which he had recently renovated himself. When he gave us a rough estimate for customizing and installing the steel cabinets, I was amazed at how much cheaper it was than what Cabinets and Beyond had quoted us. Cy is basically a one-person operation, with a few hired helpers, so I knew I was taking a chance. But the cabinets were too beautiful to resist for what he was asking. We had a few bumps along the way; dealing with my HOA's rules and some scheduling glitches, but I knew I was going to have to be flexible with this project and go with the flow. Ultimately, Cy and his team did a fantastic job of assembling, customizing, and installing the cabinets. It turned out to be a bit more complicated than expected, but Cy was totally dedicated. He's an honorable person to do business with and takes great pride in his work. Underneath a gruff exterior is a heart of gold. Very opinionated, but very knowledgeable.. Besides stainless steel, Cy finds other interesting pieces of vintage furniture that he renovates into amazing pieces of functional art. Stuff you can't even imagine. We ended up using regular contractors for the granite countertop and electrical work, but the stainless steel cabinets (and single steel sheet wall backdrop) were the man thing, and the end result was a beautiful, elegant, functional, rugged set of kitchen cabinets instead of junk. We are still blown away. Here are some pictures that give a small taste of the finished product: http://www.flickr.com/photos/29395657@N03/sets/72157634217675933/ I highly recommend doing business with SS21!
