My kids are 4 and 6 years old, and we came on a very busy day. The wait was over an hour for a 30 minute lesson, which I totally understood. But when they finally sat down for their lesson, I expected a real lesson. Thank goodness I didn't actually leave them, because after a quick instruction, they were left unattended for 10minutes. The nice gentleman that was "teaching" them, was also attending to a very busy desk and checking in other customers. Clearly, they were understaffed but I would have happily waited additional time to have a staff member available to sit with the children to instruct them how to draw from start to finish. After 20minutes of this, their instructor was relieved of his desk duties to actually instruct them with 1-2minute interruptions, which was must more reasonable. I am so glad that I didn't just drop them off, as they may have walked out, bored, without anyone noticing read more

I'm not sure if there's a point for this review since the location closed down, but I'm putting this out there in case anyone is in the same boat. We purchased a prepaid package and used it once before they permanently closed the the store. The closure was never communicated to us. I emailed them for a refund but they refused, and told us to go to the Valley Fair location - a mall that is an hour away and one that we rarely go to. The other options were to use it on art supplies or their all-access pass. In other words, instead of the live art lessons which we paid for, we now have to purchase $190 in art supplies despite having a house full of them, or put that $190 to watch their videos as if YouTube didn't exist. Very unethical business practice, especially for prepaid customers. read more

What a fantastic idea! A place where you can drop your child off while you shop and they get art lessons to boot, and at reasonable prices too. It can get a little expensive when your niece wants to go there several times a week but as long as her parents can afford it, it's fine with me. My five year old niece loves it here and is always exited to show us her latest work of art. The instructors are friendly and seem knowledgable in what they're doing and aside from the standard drop in service, they also offer birthday parties, field trips and face painting. This is honestly one of the most adorable and convenient places to take your kid, aside from the idea of dropping them off to do some art lessons/activities while you shop. It is not too spacious inside however enough room and elbow space to do art on the table hehe. The way the staff teaches the kids how to draw different images along with painting them is crazy, in a good way!! It they lead them one by one making sure every kid gets their turn with help and completion. My 5year old Sister was able to complete an amazing drawing of Twilight Sparkle and I was just amazed with the completion and closeness of the image. I honestly find this to be one of the smartest ideas and places to open, surprisingly inside a Mall. Young Art lessons also sells art it merchandise!! We just brought our 9 year old daughter and 7 year old son here and they really seemed to enjoy themselves. I can't say the same for a lot of the other much younger kids I saw there who appeared rather dazed and confused having just been dropped off to be babysat whilst the folks go off to shop. As for the place, it's very clean, colorful and well stocked with art supplies. The wonderfully welcoming staff (Jake, Rebecca & the rest of the team) is really attentive, patient, helpful and great with the kids. Salina, the art instructor, is incredibly on top of it and and takes much care and pride in her work/passion. We'll be coming here again! read more

I've seen this place a few times as I walk about the mall and finally decided to pop in on 12/23/2019. My kids are 5 and 2- mind you I made this very clear to the employee in the front. She did not bat an eye and I thought that was a good sign, she's done this before! I hung around to see it all in action to make sure it would be okay to use in the future. I read that they "believe in passion, creativity, and the power of education." The employee gave a blank piece of paper to each of my kids and asked them what they wanted to create. No passion to be seen. My kids made their choices and then she began to draw the items for them in line form so they could trace it, instead of just giving them a print-out of this exact thing and not wasting her time doing this! There was no education or creativity in any of it. She copied from an existing art piece. She didn't explain to my 5 year old how to make a drawing, she didn't explain to my 5 year old what type of coloring utensils she was using, nor did she didn't explain to my 5 year old anything that could pass as any type of education. Then it was the 2 year old's turn. She did the exact same thing. My 2 year old looked at the drawing and began to scribble all over it with complete disregard of the drawing she just made. She didn't stop me in the front to explain to me that maybe my 2 year old is too young and I should not waste 25 of my hard earned dollars on this for him. She did not get down to his level to maybe engage him with some passion, creativity or education. She left while they "colored." Then she came back to finish my 5 year old's drawing. So my 5 year old only contributed 50% of the work to it as the employee finished the other half. Great lesson. In short, everything that happened was worthless. I do the exact same thing for them at home. $50 in the trash. How does this pass as creativity or passion? If you need expensive babysitters while shopping at the mall and you really have NO OTHER CHOICE, then by all means, drop the off here. read more

My daughter wanted a face painting and she is shy so the lady with the Minot mint green hair took her time and did my daughter's raccoon. And it was so cute. Money wasted. Unethical business. My 10 year old son loves drawing and I figured maybe this will be a good experience for him and maybe the teacher will teach him some new skills. The lady that approached us was really nice to begin with but before I decided to pay I asked her if she would have an hour to focus on my son since I am paying for an hour and her answer was ofcourse. We took time to select the painting he wanted to work on and I left him there to start painting. I was so excited that he will have tons of fun but when I came back the painting looked nothing like the painting on the wall. There was no definition to it. I saw the teacher coming to him to give him basic instructions but not really teaching him any skill and then just leaving and being on her phone. When I left my son was very disappointed and told me that she just left him most of the time on his own and was on her phone and talking to other coworkers. I think this is unacceptable to charge money for an hour work but then just leave the child to paint on there own with little attention or instructions. I wish I could give them zero stars for lying to their customers. read more

This place is an awesome idea for parents who want to go shopping but not have to entertain their child who might or might not behaving for a sprint through Stonestown Galleria. The prices are reasonable for the amount of time you're paying for and if your kid actually had a flare for the arts you want to show them that they don't want to be starving artists so pay for the time it takes these "teachers" to show your little person how to draw whatever project they pick. They do actually have a 10% military discount and for the first timers the nice young woman gave me a $5 off coupon when I first came to ask questions. Now, I don't know if the art teachers are students from neighboring art schools but in the 15 minutes that I was willing to try, my little person knocked out a Charrazard drawings and was able to color it completely. Now as you acquire more time, the more in depth the project and detail oriented the kids can get. Plus you don't have to stand there awkwardly while you wait for your child, they give you a ticket with a pick up time for your person so you can roam around free for a bit in the mall. Imagine going to Macy's and not having to look for your people hiding in the clothes racks while annoyed childless adults give you this look like you should keep this smaller human being on a leash while out in public. Plus, they have party packages available which is a nice change. My little guy had a great time and wants to come back. read more

My daughter loves this place. I don't think they teach you actual art techniques as I think it's mostly tracing and coloring, but my daughter loves creating it and doing the coloring and each piece of art looks professional at the end. What's great about this place is that you can leave your kid here and shop. The prices are super reasonable too. My daughter always asks to come here. WORST birthday party experience ever!! Firstly, they knew how many children were attending and had just one person to help throughout the event. She was visibly stressed and annoyed at times, but that's on them, they knew how many guests were attending the party. Secondly, they overcharged me per guest. I realized the following day and went back to ask for a refund. She said she would look into it and get back to me. 3 weeks and I've called and emailed, and nothing. Thirdly, I called today to find out about it. They obviously knew who I was because she said my name almost immediately. While they're "pulling up my information" we get disconnected. How convenient. I called back 3 times and no one picks up. This is incredibly unprofessional and childish service. I will never go back to this place again. read more

This business has gone downhill...The first time we visited, about 3 years ago, they were 4 people working there and taking turns to help my child with her drawing. At the end of the lessons, my daughter would be escorted to the "glitter bar" to finish up her art project, then she would get to pick a little surprise. These past 6 months, we visited twice and what a disappointment! Only one person works there, and she is a kid herself, without any social skills, looking totally bored and not teaching much. The glitter bar has disappeared. We were hoping to have a lessons yesterday (so the Saturday just before Thanksgiving) and again, same bored "looking" kid, who told us there was a 2 hour waiting list!!! When this studio first opened, there was a ton of enthusiastic staff ready to take any kids who walked in. Their advertising touted their convenience service for parents to drop their kids off for a session to let out their inner Picasso while they ran their errands kid-free. It was genius! We purchase many hours and even enrolled in their summer program. We hadn't been there for months until I decided to take my daughter and her friend for a session during their holiday break to work on their Mission project for school. When we arrived, there were 3 kids in the entire studio with only one instructor who also had to manage check-in. A woman ahead of us wanted to drop off 4 kids. The instructor told her that she was short staffed and could not take anymore kids. She was put on a waitlist and told to come back in 30 mins when another staff member was to arrive. I was then put on the same waitlist and told to come back in an hour. Yes, it was exasperating but we agreed to come back since we had time. After killing time at Target, $60 and 60 minutes later, we returned. She took the girls in but it was still only her. I went to run some errands and returned an hour later for pick up. The girls hadn't even start painting yet! Also, they were put at a little table where they were hunched over and the complained that their backs were hurting so I had them move to a taller table. The instructor asked if I wanted to add more time for the girls to finish, so we added another half hour. They still weren't able to finish so I asked for her to spray dry the painting so we can take it home. But guess what, they were out of spray and we were out of luck. The girls later told me that they were 75% done with their sketch when the instructor made them start over- which is why after an hour they hadn't started painting. This place has gone downhill and if they don't remedy the situation, they won't last much longer. They need more trained staff, especially during a holiday break when kids are off and looking for activities. Your convenience service is now a nuisance. I hope they can get it together, it really is a smart business idea (2 stars for that) but poorly executed and managed at the moment. read more

We had my daughter's birthday party there which was really fun for everyone, and the instructor was very good at showing everyone different techniques they could use in their drawings. I even learned some things that I was able to repeat later on. On the bad side, it took FOREVER to get in touch with anyone to set up the party in the first place. I called at least half a dozen different times to either get no answer or someone who didn't have any answers?!? Several of my calls were answered by a staff member who couldn't tell me the days or times you could have a party or how the parties even work!?! First one afternoon the kids went in early and she came and told me in a very rude and impolite tone that my kid couldn't be there acting like I can't control my child. Selena always gives her personalized attention and has really encouraged her creativity and art. My daughter really enjoys her time there and I usually have a hard time puling her out of there. It was my 5 year old daughter's first time here and her last. When I came back to pick-up my daughter, the teacher immediately told me that she didnt finish because my daughter was busy looking at what the other kids in the group were doing. She went on to say that when she was giving directions to the other kids, my daughter was not working on her art. I told the teacher that my daughter was probably excited about being there and curious about what others were doing. Then the teacher responded with, "I'm not criticizing. I was just letting you know why she didn't finish." The teacher then went on to color in my daughter's drawing herself because she said she didn't like how it looked. At that point, I gave my daughter positive feedback about her drawing and asked her if she wanted to finish it. My daughter said no, but the teacher insisted on adding more to the artwork because she didn't like how it looked. Overall, I'm very disappointed in our experience. My daughter is 5 and 45-minutes is a long time for her. And on top of that, the teacher was not encouraging at all. She didn't even ask permission to add/color on my daughter's artwork. She just got her paint and went for it. This place needs to rethink their approach for allowing kids to be creative. Art is not supposed to look like the other drawings on the wall. The artwork should be their own personal work and if someone wants to add to it, they should ask the child. read more

My 3.5 year old loves this place! We stop by every now and then for 30 min sessions; we've been at least 5 times by now. All of the teachers she's had have been great and show a lot of patience. This place is a fun way for my child to exercise fine motor skills and I appreciate the convenience of walk-in sessions. read more

We had a really bad experience here, and left after exactly 7mins. I came in with my 2.5 year old daughter and we got assigned a teacher who knew nothing about how to work with kids and art. My daughter pretty much left in tears. It started out when the teacher abruptly snapped at her for trying to pull a chair to sit on, claiming it was too big for her and could hurt her. First of all, I was standing a foot away, watching. And I pride myself in raising strong independent girls, so that rubbed me the wrong way and soured my mood. I could tell it also affected my daughter because of how abrupt and snappy the teacher was. Then she pulled out a piece of paper and asked my daughter what we wanted to draw. My daughter and I had been talking about pandas the whole morning, so when she said pandas, the teacher said that would take too long. Amazing! I just stared at her in disbelief. She then drew a dotted panda and asked my daughter to connect the dots. At this point she left to help someone else because this place seemed understaffed. When she came back and saw that my daughter was just free drawing, she did the most incredible thing imaginable. She took the pencil from her. OUT.OF.HER.HAND. And told her she's doing it wrong! Then gave her a marker and told her to just color in the panda. At this point my daughter was demoralized and just sat there staring at the paper. She then said all done and got up and left. We'll never come back here again. Maybe they don't know how to work with toddlers. Maybe that one teacher was a bad apple. It really doesn't matter. read more

I brought my son there for couple times. I would say the girl who worked in the front is great, she greeted me and my son nicely, however the teachers in the back were not that good. They didn't spend time with my son, and didn't explain to him how to draw picture, in the beginning, they asked him what he wanted to draw, he answered "minecraft ", they just goggled a photo of Minecraft and just put the phone in front of my son's desk, just let him be for the whole 30 mins class. She is SO nice, detail oriented, hard working and she truly helps and understands my son who is on the spectrum. You are practically paying someone to watch after your kid while you shop. Not that i needed that cause i was standing there for 30 minutes peeking through the window. $22 for 30 minutes. With "Lessons" following "Young Art...," you would figure there would be teaching involved. NONE! The people working there does the drawing for them and they just color it in. If my kid needed a coloring lesson, i would just buy a coloring book, paint, chalks, or crayons and it would last me at least a week and definitely will not be $22! Don't waste your money here. As an art school graduate, I will not recommend to leave your kids here. They don't teach drawing with skills or creativity. They are just day-caring and forcing kids to copy one of drawings on the wall. That's not a right way to teach an art to kids. Disappointed! read more

You can choose the time interval you'd like the lesson to be for and are charged accordingly. My 5 year old picked something to draw, the staff helped create the outline, and had her trace, then color and finish. You can leave your child there while you shop or have a coffee just outside the store at the Nordstrom coffee kiosk. We were there early on a weekday, so my daughter got a lot of one on one time. I was advised that the teacher student ration can be up to 1:5 when it's busy. Overall, a fun place and good alternative to keep your kid entertained. read more

I visited the one in valley fair mall and it was actually a great idea for my kids to drop off while me and my husband can shop. Although there were some issues on what they planned to draw. My kids were shared one teacher and they had many questions. They said the teacher couldn't really keep up with their questions. Another is that my kids decided to draw animals and it took them almost 2 hours and I only paid for 1 hour. The lady told my kids to call us because our session is over, and my kids were embarrassed. So what I did was I had to pay for a punch card but the thing is I don't live around the area to fully use up my punch card. So PSA: don't draw anything you can't fit within your time slot, so for example don't draw the Eiffel Tower in 30 minutes.. read more

I held my daughter's 5th birthday party here today and we could not have been more pleased. For a group of 15 children, they were well-staffed and attentive, and the children loved creating their own Moana-themed paintings. Young Art will host a party to fit any theme, including an hour-long art lesson, nail art, face painting, and glass art, all for what I consider to be a very reasonable price. It was a drop-off party, and as the only parent there, I felt completely relaxed and happy knowing the children were entertained, busy and happy. They all left with their own work of art, and a generous party bag, plus the option to shop the store for 20% off. The staff helped me take all our belongings to the car and had smiles on their faces even as we drove away. Happy kids, happy daughter, parents who could leave their kids and shop for two hours, AND minimal stress for me? That is hard to beat. Thank you, Young Art! read more
