We came here for a lunch offering yesterday, met a friend for a wine and something fried. They had a full band playing out front - not something you normally get at a cafe, but could be something to do with the fact that it was a school band and it was school holidays. Was pretty packed when we arrived and the staff were run off their feet so didn't get much attention for a few minutes. Once we flagged them down, we had a fairly misunderstood conversation with the waitress who had a very strong accent.
Nevertheless, we got what we wanted, tempura prawns and fish and salt and chili calamari, both of which fulfilled our expectations of salty goodness.
A pretty short wine and beer list, but what we had was good (a semillion and sav blanc from the Hunter). They could do with some local beers.
This place is attached to the AU National Maritime Museum, just underneath it at the front (or rear, depending on where you're coming from) on Darling Harbour. It's a nice location with a big ship out front and sub as well and a fair bit of foot traffic too.
I can see this being a popular place for people to hang out at if they are tired of the hustle further down the road in the centre of Darling Harbour. read more
