That is, of course, unless you are fond of seeing your meal again within a few hours. I decided to trust said friend rather than listening to common sense. That was three years ago, and to this day Seven Spices is my takeaway of choice. I will confess now that I have a comically low spice tolerance, so the dishes I can stomach from an Indian restaurant are limited. This does mean however that I am a connisseur of korma, and this place does a particularly nice variety. I have however eathen from here with various companions, all of which have enjoyed their dishes. There are a few nice touches, such as free poppadoms and vegetable side dishes. There are also several options for vegetarians. I would recommend anything involving paneer as something worth going for. I think there is a restaurant, although I have never passed it when it is open. Sometimes though, it is nice to have your food come to you, and with good delivery times, why not put your pyjamas (or onesie!) on, get comfy and wait for it to do just that.

(Oh yeah I'm down with the Twitterverse kids). The story so far........ In a galaxy far far away....... They weren't up to much either lol. So I dared to delve into the world of online ordering again and paid attention to the ratings and comments rather than how many chappati's I got free and came up with Jafran and I am so glad I did! The food here is restaurant quality but at takeaway price. The portions are generous, the chappati's are so freshly made they bring a tear to my eyes and they are MAHOOSIVE!! The size of a football pitch give or take a few metres ;) Everything tastes fresh and if you ask for it to be milder they can do it (usually a good sign that they make it fresh and it's not spooned out of a massive tub that they buy in! Oh yes, we're on to your tricks, watch out lol) They are usually around 40 mins to deliver because they make it fresh, one I used near here used to deliver within 15 mins which kind of tells you something as it takes me 2 days when I cook to make anything ;) Oh and the Poppadums are like crispy angels skin they are so good! Do yourself a favour and try this place, then come back and add your comment and save me a poppadum or the kitten gets it!!

(The female delivery drivers have persistently eluded my tea tarnished tee's and jaunty good looks.) So as a man with many notches in the ol' takeaway belt I have to admit there's not many joints as good as this. The Curries are fresher than Miley's dance moves, Pack more of a clout than Mike Tyson's right uppercut/ear bite combo, and as for the chilli sauce... I get moist in my special region just thinking about it. Couldn't agree more with Chris S on the poppadum's being like crispy angels skin, and as such the naan breads are like heated quilts in which these poppadum seraphs can rest their tiresome wings. Gets a little costly don't get me wrong, and delivery can get a tad on the long side on the busier nights, but by chove it's worth it. Check them out.

Fortunately, I was proven wrong. Visitors are greeted with a namaste by the artwork on the glass door before proceeding into the lounge; complete with bright red arm chairs and a full bar. Bright red lightning traces the outline of the ceiling, adding to an already modern, but minimalist atmosphere of grey and glass. For appetizers we ordered a popadom to split plus some mushroom pakora, paneer tikka, and a veg platter for two. The mushroom pakora was good but not particularly amazing. The paneer tikka, however, had a unique texture and taste, complete with a deep red color and smoky blackened exterior. The veg platter contained a mixture of veg pakora, samosas, and even fired aubergine; a vegetable I tend to dislike, but loved fried in the house's spicy flour. The popadom was served with four sauces and a spicy pickle that was one of the best I have had in the UK. My girlfriend was a bit upset at the absence of a mint chutney or a more spicy alternative to to largely sweet sauces. For an entree we shared an order of palak paneer - Indian hot - with an order of garlic naan. It was hot, but not too hot, despite the presence of whole chilies mixed in. The food is edible but quite unlike the prime rib you expect. It is cut in small pieces, slathered in brown gravy, dumped on top of some veggies and served in a box. It is sort of the Kentucky Fried Chicken version of a Prime Rib dinner, except the quality is one notch lower. The people are nice but you pick your box up at the counter, fast food style. The ambience screams Henry the Eighth ate here, and not in a good way. Thank god for the giant brick pilar in the middle holding the building up. In short, it was a perfectly acceptable caffeine hit but nothing spectacular. The food fared a little better, and the pizza I had was tasty, generous and well priced, although my friend's burger warranted less glowing praise. Mezmez feels like it's trying hard to be a proper Italian establishment, but it commits the common crime of feeling like it has to offer other dishes too, and it's the inferior quality of these that lets the whole side down. That, and the coffee. A better choice than many of the cafes and takeaways in the area, but it will have to do better to compete with the mighty Box up the road.
